Route Description:

Starting at the GAA Pitch, you have free route choice to the summit of Big Sugarloaf. Punch your card! Then descend to the carpark. Turning right out onto the Red Lane and crossing the R755 just beyond the old Calary filling station. Once you have crossed the R755 you again have free route choice across Ballyremon commons. Cross the Old Long Hill Road. With free route choice again, run to the following points (each marked with a kite and punch). The summits: In this order...

  • Djouce: O 179 103
  • War Hill: O 169 113
  • Tonduff South: O 159 135
  • Maulin: O 185 131
  • And the descent:
  • top of the Ayling Abyss: O 195 119

Descend to the bottom of the abyss, before making your way back up and across Ballyremon Commons. Cross the R755 at the same point as before and follow the Red Lane back to the Sugarloaf carpark. Once through the gate you have free route choice to the finish at the barrier outside the GAA pitch.

Note: You must use the Red Lane between the carpark and the R755 (Do not enter fenced fields) and cross the R755 Road at the designated (Garda assisted) crossing point.

Registration Opens 7:15 ENTRY - pre-approval only. Send an email to the race director - graham.bushe@ucd.ie - with details of or links to previous unmarked/ navigation races you have completed in an open mountain setting. Do not enter this race without having been in contact with the RD.

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
