Route Description

The race starts on the road for 100m and then turns left onto a steep stony track for 600m. Join the main forestry road and keep going straight up. On your right you will see magnificent views over the Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs and the Sugar Loaf. The climb continues for a further 1.55km when you reach a farm track on your right. (200m elevation gain in 2.15km).

Follow the farm track which is mainly downhill but undulates through a number of farm gates for 2km and turn left back onto a main forestry road.

Follow this undulating but mainly downhill forestry road. On your right you have views over Greystones, Delgany, Kilpedder and Wicklow town. After 1.7km there is a fork in the road and take the left hand fork.

Climb 1.66 km and 125m elevation gain to Downs Hill summit. On your left is the site of a bronze age hill fort (3,000 BC). From here it is effectively downhill all the way to the finish (2.6km).

After 500m you reach the farm track on your left which you had previously followed, but you're going straight on and downhill! As you continue your descent there are great views over the sea and 1.55 km later you reach the stoney steep track. Straight down for 600m, turn right onto the road and 100m to the finish line

Junior Route

Juniors will run a 5km route at Downshill. It is a looped route and starts on the upper fire road at 7.30pm, the same time as the Senior race. This is approx. 600 m from the Senior Start Line and please be in there in good time for your start. The Juniors will run South East on the forestry road and follow that to join the senior route after approximately 1.6km. The Juniors then follow the senior route past their start point and on to the senior finish line.

Current Volunteers

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
