Organisers Instructions:

Cruagh Summit is located private land and this route has been altered to avoid this area and also offer some more route choices.

Long Course

Race starts at entrance to Ticknock Wood. Runners must visit each of the following summits and Bog Road start on the way out and punch a control card. The route between these points is of the runners choosing. There is completely free route choice from Kippure Summit back to the entrance at Ticknock Wood. Please take care crossing roads and rivers and do not cross private land.

There will be a manned checkpoint at the start of the Old Bog road.

  • Start 168242
  • Fairy Castle 171224
  • Tibradden 148222
  • Glendoo 141204**
  • Bog Road 130196
  • Kippure 115154 (free route choice back to the finish you do not have to revisit the previous controls)
  • Finish 168242
**Glendoo Summit Control:Glendoo has two summits in close proximity of one another. The more Southerly Summit is the higher and is the control point for this race. On some maps this summit is indicated as Glendoo Summit, on others Glendoo South and on others Glendoo South Summit. This Summit does not have a cairn or trig point. However, passing very close to (South East and South) or possibly through this Summit is a fence line. The control will be located on the highest fence post in this fence line. For ease of location during recces the top of the fence post has been painted Jasmine (Yellowish White). This post also currently sports a child's shoe on top of it and a dogs leather collar around it. A location map of this control is on the map page and on the photos page.

This race cannot be completed entirely on tracks and some open mountain navigation will be required on the section from Tibradden to Bog Road. There are some tracks in this area but be aware this may significantly lengthen your route. The recommended map is the new Dublin & North Wicklow Mountains by East West mapping.

Time Cut-Off

This race will have a cut-off time. 2.30pm at checkpoint at the start of bog road up to Kippure. This is standard practice in long distance races. This time is generously set at 200% of the winning time. Runners failing to meet this cut-off must turn back and complete the short course.

Long Course runners requiring assistance may make their back to the Bog Road checkpoint which will be manned until 3.30pm (or 90 minutes after the last runner passes through the Bog Road checkpoint - whichever is the earliest), the marshal will ferry runners back to the start.

Accepting this cut-off time for the Dublin Peaks is a condition of entry. Cut-off times are necessary to

  • Protect the safety of runners
  • To make the decision to call out a search for injured or lost runner more promptly
  • To reduce the time race officials spend in exposed and remote location

Kit

A basic kit will be required to be carried, irrespective of weather, and will be checked at start and checkpoint Bog Road, failure to produce the required kit here will lead to disqualification. The kit will comprise of water/wind proof jacket (double top will not suffice), hat, gloves, emergency food (gels, sweets etc) map or copy of route, phone (with the IMRA emergency number saved). There will be a water and feeding station at checkpoint Bog Road and the facility to retire and get a lift back. A phone is a requirement for this race because of the free route choice on the return from Kippure (Long Course) and Bog Road (Short Course)

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
