From here you can walk/jog to finish or we will try facilitate a car trip.

Getting There:
Important Parking & Registration will be at the Finish: Drumgoff Gap Military Rd Co Wicklow GR T087876. Registration will open at 9:00, for the early starters first, then the main race starters. Registration for the early start will close at 1/4 to 10 and close for the main race at 10.40 to allow runners & director to get to start in Aughavannagh, no parking at race start please do not bring cars there.
Organisers Instructions:
This is an extremely testing race (up to 23km with 1095 m of climb) and is NOT RECOMMENDED for beginners or inexperienced navigators.

The route will not be marked.
Important: Parking & Registration will be at the Finish: Drumgoff Gap GR T087876 & close @ 10.40am , we will car ferry runners to start line OR runners may, if they choose, 'warm up' with a downhill run to start of 4.2k .

There is an EARLY START. This will be 1 HOUR before main start. Please arrive early enough to register and gear check. We then have to ferry any early starters to the Aughavannagh start, 4+k down the road. Early start registration needs to finish before 1/4 to 10.

This race will be on an unmarked open mountain route. Competitors must be capable of navigating their way around the course. Lugnaquillia does have a tendency to be cloud covered. We may be lucky with clear views, but you still should be able to use your map and compass should you need it.
The mandatory kit is::
  • Map
  • Compass
  • Whistle
  • Some food e.g. jellies, banana, gels
  • Water - at least 250ml
  • Phone
  • hat or buff AND gloves
  • Jacket

For registration, bring your mandatory kit with you to be checked.

Conditions can change quickly in the hills. You can be warm one minute and cold the next so come prepared. Recommended map is EastWest Mapping Lugnaquilla & Glendalough 1:25,000 scale map - see photo.

Note: parts of the route will not have reliable phone coverage - particularly low down in the Ow river valley..

Chip timing will not be used at this race. We will record times the old-fashioned way.

Volunteers (Non-Running)

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
