- Organisers Instructions:
- This is a new race route for 2019. Outline of route Start: Drumgoff Recreation area GR 094 889 CP1 Fananerin spot height ( 427m) - GR 112 890 CP2 Croaghanmoira / Mottie Mountain Summit ( 664m) - GR 099 865 CP3 Carrickshane Spot Height 9 504m) - GR 078 859 CP4 Slieve Maan Spot Height 547m - GR 082 880 CP5 Slieve Maan North Top Spot Height (Brown Knob on EastWest maps) 546m - GR 084 887 Back to Starting point. Recommended map is EastWest Lugnaquillia & Glendalough 1:25,000 scale map The fananerin highpoint doesn't have a trig or cairn, but is pretty obvious end point on the trail up there. The logical path to Croaghanmoira goes up and over the highpoint Mullach on the map. Croaghanmoira has a trig - photo added to event. Carrickashane has a small cairn amongst trees, can be tricky to find, but will be marked - photo added to event. Slieve Maan south the big boulder in a wide grassy clearing will be a proxy for the high point - photo added to event. Slieve Maan north - is a big cairn amongst peat hags. Photo added to event. Shown on latest EastWest map as 'Brown knob. Orienteering kites will be put out on each CP. Runners will be given a control card to 'punch' at each control around the route. Route is free choice with the exception of the Fananerin to Croaghanmoira - the track goes along the fence line until there is a break in the fence (towards Mullach)is mandatory. Contouring around Mullach offers no advantage and risks straying into private property, so staying on the Mullach path is advised. Car pooling from Glenmalure if possible. We will have parking at Drumgoff rec area. Mandatory Kit: - Jacket, map, compass. - Phone (optional) An early start for runners normally over 160% of winners time will be at 10.30am IMRA races are cashless events. Please pay by voucher or by pre-purchase on the IMRA shop.
- Prizegiving Location:
- Finish line at Drumgoff Rec area, at the Pillars leading into the car park (not the yellow barrier). At the finish competitors must show their control card for the 5 CPs punched.
Volunteers (Non-Running)
You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize
Volunteers (Running)
Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
