Sugarloaf Winter

AuthorDateMessage
Angela FlynnFeb 6 2025, 12:28pmNew route in lieu of the cancelled Mullaghmeen race.
The GAA have again kindly allowed us the use of their car park.
The new route will not take in the summit and the reasons for this are as follows
1- Sundays mornings are especially busy on the Sugarloaf with families and small children- IMRA enjoys a good reputation with the general public and I believe a few hundred people running at speed on the new steps to the summit would damage our reputation. The steps are a fantastic new development at a cost of half a million with the aim of limiting the erosion on the other paths up. Using an othe route to the top would contradict the efforts of establishing the new trail
2-Steps are narrow -slippy when wet
3-high winds would mean we would have an alternative route anyway.
4-similar height gain

The summer route may be different as its an evening event
Thanks in advance -Angela
Alan KennedyFeb 6 2025, 12:44pmGreat news that we have an alternative race. Thanks to Angela and Graham B for stepping in on short notice.

Summit? We don't need no stinking Summit !
(in a Mexican accent, the youngsters wont get it)
Dave DochertyFeb 6 2025, 1:08pmGreat stuff Ange Graham. Thanks for stepping up. Couple of questions. Do you know the route well? Have you done it before?
Angela FlynnFeb 8 2025, 11:16amShout out for volunteers please
Mick HanneyFeb 8 2025, 4:16pm@Webmaster can this forum thread be linked with the event pls?

Keelin HolmesFeb 12 2025, 3:37pmHi, I'm still unable to sign up for race, I've rang the bank and it's not my card, does anyone know what I can do ? Thanks Keelin!
Eoin KeithFeb 12 2025, 3:49pmHi Keelin,

Please email the webmaster email with full details of what the error/information messages are telling you.
Angela FlynnFeb 15 2025, 5:51pmEntries closing shortly,
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow
The route is challenging and well done to Graham for all his hard work in creating this route for us. We met each other is the miserable fog and rain this morning- him laden down with marking gear - us recci ing the route again. It’s slippy, hilly, sticky and wet but a cracking route all the same.
Parking is at the GAA but with 220 signed up and 25 plus volunteers please please please car pool. Do not assume the car park in Kilmac will be free either.
Please bring your own cup for your tea at the hall - staff aka volunteers will be busy enough besides washing up cups after the grub.
Reg closing at 10:30 early start is 10:30 and there may be other traffic on this road as it’s open to the public. Theirs is very little room to reverse on the road should you meet traffic and 1 wouldn’t recommend it with 200 plus runners looking at you if you’re late.
Kate FlynnFeb 16 2025, 2:20pmthanks to all who showed up today and extra thank you to our wonderful team of volunteers who worked exceptionally hard!
Black phone with floral case found in the GAA club that we have at ours in Kilmacanogue.

Angela FlynnFeb 17 2025, 7:41pmAt the risk of forgetting to thank all who helped to make Sundays race such a success, I would like to especially mention– Graham for designing and marking a cracking route and all the work that that entailed, the marshals on the course – and volunteers who gave of their time. However, a special mention must also must go the catering volunteers their work began and finished long after most people were home, not least hoovering and wash up, to Ultan, Manav and Ciara ( the children of volunteers who also pitched in in the hall doing a variety of jobs asked of them- Not easy getting young teens involved especially early on a Sunday morning I would imagine). My daughter Kate who managed so much of the event before and during and Paul, Ben and Vivian and Alan, car park marshals – a job that you don’t notice when its done well. Philip – volunteer and litter picker extraordinaire. The IT folks who managed to reconcile all the results so efficiently. Finally the league Director -Jody, Liam and Lillian for their help and support, Claire for her first aid skills and lastly -GAA for allowing us the use of their facilities and what facilities they are- built by generations of the families of Kilmac over the years.
Mary CollinsFeb 18 2025, 6:15pmThanks Angela for organizing and race directing race last Sunday and all your volunteers who did so much work with you. Very well marked and marshaled . Extremely varied and challenging terrain and route.
Elaine CaseyFeb 18 2025, 6:38pmBelated thanks to all who created this event at such short notice, I for one would love to see this as a permanent run in the calendar.
