Clare KeeleyJan 26 2025, 11:15pmHi everyone,

The Wicklow Way Half is on Saturday the 8th of March ’25 (6 weeks away).
It is the first race of the Leinster Half-Marathon League. You will find the full list of races under IMRA Leagues for 2025 (3 to score). Last year was the first year of the Half Marathon League and it was a great success.
Entries will open for the race in early February (TBC). I will post a reminder closer to the time and keep an eye on the Event page.
Thank you so much to everyone who has already volunteered. We will need a Laptop operator and another First-Aid (if possible) along with a few more helpers. If you would like to shadow either of the roles just let me know. Happy training!

Clare
Mick HanneyJan 27 2025, 9:19amHi Clare, I have added my name as laptop operator. I'll need a brief refresher from an experienced laptop guru, as its a year since I did it (which was the old scanner etc). Cheers, Mick
Clare KeeleyJan 28 2025, 3:57pmThank you Mick and everyone else who has volunteered. I will be in touch with everyone in a few weeks. Clare

Elaine CaseyFeb 16 2025, 5:07pmHi, does anyone have a link to the plotaroute or similar for this route? Thanks
Clare KeeleyFeb 17 2025, 8:23pmHi Elaine, have a look at the maps and picture in Maps section, you will also find the start of the race location on the event page marked “at Pier Gates”. The Wicklow Way Half follows the exact Wicklow Way way marked trail north from here to Crone Woods car park barrier and turn back and follow exact way back. Myself and Deputy RD Orlaith hiked the route on Saturday and all the markets are in place and the route is as normal. I can get you a link.
**Volunteers** thank you to everyone who has signed up, we have plenty now , please have a look at future races that may need volunteers.
Please keep an eye on forum for any updates, you will hear from either myself or Orlaith.
Clare
Orlaith BourneFeb 20 2025, 12:56pmHi Everyone,

This is a reminder that The Wicklow Way half is still open for just over a week, and will be closing Strictly, on
SUNDAY THE 2nd OF MARCH at 6pm.

ONCE THIS RACE CLOSES, WE WILL NOT BE REOPENING THIS YEAR.
There will be no transfers or refunds, and
NO LATE ENTRIES.

Please refer to the event page for all details relating to this race. We would like to remind everyone there will be no early start, with a generous cut off at Crone.

If you are thinking of signing up for The Wicklow Way Half, it would help us greatly if you did so sooner rather than later so we can prepare for numbers.

We are very excited to see you all on March The 8th for what is looking to be another exceptional year on The Wicklow Way,

Many thanks,

Orlaith & Clare
Elaine CaseyFeb 20 2025, 8:37pmthanks Clare, I think I've managed to map it on google, going to check out the route before committing to signing up and I've never had to navigate a whole run myself before :)
Clare KeeleyFeb 26 2025, 7:11pmHi Everyone,

With 324 runners currently booked into the race, can we please please encourage everyone to share lifts, also highlighting the brilliant Carpool facility at the bottom of the Event page or runners are welcome to post on the forum here if they are looking for lifts to and from the race or public transport. We have the far end of the car park at Pier Gates, that doesn't mean we have to fill it to the brim!! Car parking fees apply as per Event page. There are currently NO Carpool offers up and a whole crowd of you planning to run!!
Clare and Orlaith.
Clare KeeleyFeb 26 2025, 9:11pmThank you Seb for getting the ball rolling with the Carpooling!
Seb SzmFeb 27 2025, 3:52pmdon't mention it , I am carpool rookie
Clare KeeleyMar 3 2025, 9:18amMorning everyone,
An email has been sent to all runners this morning. If you have entered this event and not received an email please let us know clare.keeley3 at gmail.com.
Entry closed yesterday evening. No late entry requests please.
Some easy running this week to save your legs for Saturday!
Clare and Orlaith.
Alan KennedyMar 3 2025, 10:43amThanks Clare, nice idea with the direct email.
And particularly like the idea of runners confirming by email if they cannot make the race as it really helps the RD's to know what numbers to expect on the day.
Tim ManganMar 3 2025, 10:46amStupid question perhaps, but if you don't ask....
Will any extra entry slots be opened up if some runners drop out?
Clare KeeleyMar 3 2025, 10:58am@Alan- thank you for your feed back, it is actually working out very well for that reason alone.
@Tim, no question is every silly but the answer is no, sorry.
Clare KeeleyMar 4 2025, 5:12pmVolunteers- email has just been sent to everyone. If you have volunteered for this event and do not receive an email from me please get in touch clare.keeley3 at gmail.com
Clare
Clare KeeleyMar 4 2025, 7:50pmQuick ask! Would anyone be traveling down from the north of Ireland for the race on Saturday? Dromara, Co Down area?? Thanks!
Orlaith BourneMar 7 2025, 3:12pmHi everyone,

Really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.
Just a couple of final house keeping items to bear in mind:

1.If you already have your 2025 Race number, please remember to pack it. Reissuing of numbers causes delays and you will probably be asked to wait until everyone else has registered.

2.The Race start point is slightly different this year, it will be back down the path closer to the coffee van, this will be signed, but please refrain from gathering up the top where it started last year, and remember to place yourself accordingly in terms of pace.

3.Can we once again kindly ask you all to be patient for the first 800 meters especially on the boards, it will spread out, we want everyone to enjoy their day and come back in one piece.

4.Thanks so much to everyone offering and joining the car pooling. Please do share lifts if you can, but we do understand this is not always possible.

5.Remember no cash, sum up only and parking will be charged according to carload.

6.The mandatory kit is Level B, all kit will be required. We will have water at Crone but you will need to carry a cup.

7. We have really appreciated all the emails from runners no longer participating, thank you all. Any further last minute non participants, please email Clare, so we can account for everyone.

8. Finally, and most of all, enjoy those gorgeous trails and look out for eachother,

See you tomorrow,

Orlaith & Clare
Eoin KeithMar 7 2025, 4:35pmA little I.T. update for a small group of 9 runners who are registered for this race (WW half).

The 9 people who had originally previously registered for a Munster race, but haven't got a result from any IMRA races this year have been allocated new race numbers. The new numbers are from the Leinster batch, and already have their Timing chips programmed with the correct (new) number.

This was done to make the registration process much quicker on the day for the both the volunteers, and for the runners in question. (You can simply be given your race bib without any programming of timing chips being required. The Leinster numbers have pre-programmed timing chips).

There is a large number of runners entered for this race, so we are trying to ensure that the registration process will be as quick and timely as possible for everyone.

Runners don't need to do anything, but this message is just to make you aware of a potential change, and you are not surprised to find out on the day at registration. If you have any doubts about what your race number is you can log into the IMRA website and view it under the welcome message at any time. The laptop operator at registration will know anyway!

Eoin (IMRA Webmaster)
Niall CorriganMar 7 2025, 4:37pmHi folks, I don’t know if this has been flagged already but I was up around Lough Tay yesterday and I noticed that a good portion of the available car parking at Pier Gates was being used for timber storage, maybe a quarter of the total space at far right from the gate. They were still unloading when I was there. Just a heads up. Enjoy the race all.
Clare KeeleyMar 7 2025, 4:50pm@niall, thank you for highlighting this, we knew that it was a possibility but there has not been any up there any of the days I have been up- I will check it out, thanks a million.
Alan KennedyMar 8 2025, 1:16pmWe were blessed to have perfect conditions for the race today. A bit cool and misty to start but finished in beautiful warm blue sky. Thanks to Claire & Orlagh for exemplary race directing. And to Rob and all the other marshals today. One of my favourite races of the year and it didn’t disappoint.

Also a shout out to Gerry McG and any others that helped the injured runner back down. Hope he’s ok.
Andy KeelingMar 8 2025, 3:26pmBig thank you to Clare, Orlaith send the rest of the team for today. From reg to finish line chats it was all a great experience. A very enjoyable race to run. The weather was perfect for running and the sausage rolls were perfect for eating. A great start and a high bar set for the half marathon league to follow.

Conall FinnMar 8 2025, 3:39pm300 odd racers on a super race day. Claire and Orlaith top job by you and your support crew. The sausage rolls were delish and the banter on the course and before and after was brilliant.
Ailbhe DonnellanMar 8 2025, 3:46pmA big thank you to Clare & Orlaith for organising today's race. It was my first half marathon and I couldn't have chosen a better one. It was challenging but very enjoyable. After following the weather all week and expecting a wash out, the sunny second half was a welcome surprise. Thank you to all of the volunteers at reg, Crone, finish line and in between. Special thanks also to Graham for bandaging my dodgy ankle at the end!
Mick HanneyMar 8 2025, 4:23pmWell done Clare and Orlaith.

Special thanks to Conor for the invaluable work on the laptop which smoothed the way for an efficient registration process.

Results are finalised and should be in the cloud for publishing soon, once people get a deserved rest.
Brendan LawlorMar 8 2025, 4:38pmBig thank you to Clare, Orlaith and a super team of volunteers for this morning’s excellent race. Thanks to Peter Kennedy too, the car park owner, who was on hand helping with the Tetris like car parking. Finally a thank you to whoever booked the nice weather..!
Elaine CaseyMar 8 2025, 5:00pmThanks to Clare and Orlaith for a great run. Thanks also to the volunteers out there for hours. Special thanks to the volunteers at Crone gate for the reassurance, Clare for her info before the run and Lillian for her 'pep talk'.

James HeggieMar 8 2025, 5:29pmGreat day at the Wicklow Way half today .
Just wondering if these are the final results as
I was back about 12.48 and I’m down as 4.00 hours ?
JUDITH ROBINSONMar 8 2025, 5:35pmA great day in Wicklow - a fab run - thank you to all involved.

I am messaging for a friend, Paula McKibbin - 942 - she has accidentally been recorded in the male 55 results.

If you coud amend that, please?

Much appreciated,
Judith
Alan BoonMar 8 2025, 6:27pmA big thank you to RD and all the volunteers involved with todays race , and a big thank you to Maoliosa (hope I spelled your name right) for helping me up after my fall and all the other runners who assisted , a really great community of runners, again thanks to everyone
Fanny GardynMar 8 2025, 7:02pmThank you so much for the amazing event. Spot on as usual. Thanks to all the volunteers!
Joan RyanMar 8 2025, 7:33pmThanks for a great race today. It ran so smoothly and the volunteers were brilliant.
Alan KennedyMar 8 2025, 7:36pmSomething maybe for future HM races.
Spotted a few lads with poles today and spoke to one of them about it. It was his first IMRA race and first HM. He said he checked and it does indeed Not say in the this race briefing that they were Not allowed. Maybe needs to be added just to be sure? Nice lad and he packed his away and carried on.

But while we were chatting about it we heard loud music and turns out some lad had a speaking his backpack and it was blasting away. Obviously does not break the headphones rule but we found it very distracting and apart from that it also ruined the atmosphere of such a beautiful day. Never seen that on a race before.
Eoin KeithMar 8 2025, 7:46pmAlan, you'll be glad to know that speakers are illegal in IMRA races (rule 9) and are grounds for disqualification.
Clare KeeleyMar 8 2025, 7:54pmJust to clarify regarding the use of poles, there was changes made last year and then exeptions added that poles can be used in races over 10k with over 500meters elevation so poles are permitted in the Wicklow Way Half , all of this is documented under the constitution rules.
Alan KennedyMar 8 2025, 9:01pmThanks Clare, apologies for missing that.
In my defence I was with some other experienced IMRA runners and we all thought the same but glad you clarified it.

Thanks Eoin, good to know.
Clare KeeleyMar 8 2025, 9:38pmHi everyone,

What an incredible day we had today for the 2025 Wicklow Way Half.

First of all I want to congratulate the podium winners, 1st Male Adam Cunningham and 1st female Aine Gosling, 2nd Male Niall Davis and 2nd Female Catriona Edington, 3rd Male Kacper Czerpak and 3rd Female Anna Michael. (You will received your prizes via email).

We had a really big crowd today with 304 runners registered and 26 volunteers on the team who were absolutely fabulous and worked so well together, a massive thank you to you all. We had Angela, Sarah, Rob, Ray and Eoghan on Car parking, we had the added challenge of the timber stacks in the car park and the guys did amazing with the assistance of Peter to get all the cars in and parked safely. We had Anne Marie, Dave, Brian, Vivinne, Graham, Henny and Leo on Registration and finish line and Mick, Conor and Rebecca on Laptop, from the runners following directions, the guys on reg and all the IT prep work, it all worked so smoothly and we had no queues! Out on the route you would have met Frances, Rob and Nicola and over at Crone we had Enda, Aideen, Ross and Patrik, Sarah was our race sweeper today, Graham and Imogen on First Aid and for the afters, we had Lily, Florance and Eoghan helping with the savouries.
We tested out two changes this year which proved to work out very well, emailing the runners with race day instructions and not having an early start. We got a great response from the email, knowing who was not coming was really helpful. Everyone starting together was actually great and I am really delighted we decided to take the chance, standing up on the stool for Race brief, I just looked around and thought “oh wow, what a crowd!!”
We had a few runners requiring first aid and we wish them all a speedy recovery, particular mention to Eoin and Gerry who assisted a runner who took a bad fall and to Dave to drove him to get medical attention.
A very special mention to Orlaith, Deputy RD who made the build up to this race so enjoyable and to share out the day with, we had a blast and you are going to be wonderful as RD for Bray x and as ever to Liam and my girls for listening and advising on all things WWH since Mid January!
All done now for another year.
Clare
