This is a replacement race for the originally posted Ticknock LL race. We're very low on volunteers at the moment. Please sign up on the race page if available. Any help appreciated. |
| Mike Jordan | Jul 8 2024, 11:49am | Thanks to all who have volunteered for the Seahan race next week. A few more helpers would be great. Ahernes pub in Oldbawn will host the prizegiving and should be a great carpooling location (cars parked at owner's risk) with a big carpark, beside the bus stop for several bus routes (S6, S8, 65b, 49), and adjacent to the Dodder Greenway cycle route. Long course route (9.8k, 510m ascent): https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2677975?units=km Junior/Short course route (3.9k, 210m asecnt): https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2678014?units=km Course description: Start will be on the west side of the road approx 1.5k up the road from the parking field. Run 400m up the fireroad, then 400m along the firebreak across to the road. Run 100m up the grass verge then cross the road (marshal) to start the climb up Seahan. This section is mainly to spread out the field as the track narrows quickly on the east side of the road. Up the track and through the gate to the top of the forestry (marshal), then follow the track north around the forest boundary. Approx 2.5k into route there is a small trail that leads to the summit of Seahan (marshal at trig pillar and junior/short course turn). The fun starts now with a 2.5k descent of the north ridge of Seahan. You'll encounter a water feature after a kilometre - best to just go through it than try and keep those feet dry :) After the long downhill take a right turn (about 50m before you reach the fence corner) and follow the contouring trail for a kilometre over to the farmer's track. The payback for that long descent begins now with about 300m of climb in less than 2.5k. Keep climbing until the track enters the bogworks and look out for flags guiding you along a trail to the saddle between Corrig and Seahan. From here follow the back to the summit of Seahan (marshal again) before a helter skelter last descent (remembering to go back in through the gate!) to the finish at the barrier by the road. The short course follows the main course to the summit before descending directly to the finish. Should be a good race for junior mountain runners as it takes in a summit and has a testing technical descent to finish. |

At a random point in the future he shall be misdirected by a marshal and run an extra 2k (of fire road) 2. He shall have to wait until I get my share of the RD kit before he can pick it up the dregs. |

There is a limit of 220 runners for this event (despite what the race info page says!). Entries will open at 9am on Monday. Alice Clancy and Andy Keeling will be at race registration on the evening collecting kit donations for Trail Criu. Please support this initiative if you can to help make mountain and trail running more inclusive for all. |

Lovely to be back in the West Dublin Peaks …some of the best descents around as the photographs show!!. Also a huge thank you for the really generous Kit donations for Trail Criú at Seahan and Carrick…saw some really great trail shoes going into the bag last night….. It is very very much appreciated! We’ll be collecting kit again at Church Mountain and Trooperstown. PS Hope the two people who were injured recover quickly! |

Thanks for taking on the various roles, change of roles and unexpected roles with enthusiasm and can-do attitude. Well done to first time volunteers Annroai, Daire, Oluwafemi. A special thanks to Henny, Alice, Ger & Luke who aren't even listed as volunteers for the race for stepping up and helping, going above and beyond and much appreciated. Thank you to 3 year old Roisin for marshalling and encouraging and cheering on all the finishers! A huge shout out to Mike for devising, marking and marshalling a tough, challenging route. It's great to have a race where everyone has the opportunity to get to the summit, whether you are in the main field, junior or short course. Congratulations to Áine and Enda on their wins and to the Junior winners, Layla and Reuben. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to those who picked up injuries, hope to see you back out on the hills soon. |

The Irish language is part of the landscape as well as the spoken word.
