Wicklow Round... old style

AuthorDateMessage
Graham K. BusheMay 29 2024, 12:07amWell, it's that time of year again, and we're facing into a busy weekend of Round attempts.
And yes, I intend to be one of the hopefuls standing at the barrier.
Starting at 2am Saturday 1st june.
I hope to complete the original Round Route as done by Tony Kiernan and Gary Moralee on 7/8 July 2007.

Wishing all the very best of luck with their attempts.
Lots of dots to watch.
Just remember, mine might wander a bit further south (I hope that will be the only place the wandering happens)

Alan KennedyJun 2 2024, 1:14amCongrats Graham on an amazing run today. You had me worried there for a while but great time in the end. Rest up and see you Scalp on Wed!!
Andy KeelingJun 2 2024, 6:10amWell done Graham! Amazing achievement. The first to finish the original Wicklow round in under 24h! Enjoy the rest. You should be very proud.

Alice ClancyJun 2 2024, 11:34amWell done Graham!!!!
Gerry McGuinnessJun 2 2024, 12:09pmFantastic achievement Graham.
Richard NunanJun 2 2024, 12:52pmWell done Graham, cracking run !
Brendan LawlorJun 2 2024, 1:08pmOh the Round is one hell of a test
But Graham Bushe said he’ll give it his best
‘Oh the doubters I’ll show
And by Crochanmoira I’ll go’
And he did and now needs his rest !

Big , big congratulations to Graham on this great achievement. Crochanmoira was removed from the original list of peaks ( correctly I believe) as the original route was felt to be outside the 24 hour reach.. well now we know it’s not !
Niall GibneyJun 2 2024, 2:47pmGreat round Graham ! Congrats !

Rachel HarneyJun 3 2024, 11:29amGreat stuff Graham!
Gary MoraleeJun 4 2024, 9:31pmWell done Graham, great to see and much better routes than Tony and I took. Our route Slievemaan to Croaghanmoire was a nightmare. We also added distance coming off Scarr back to Kanturk and down into the forest below and our route off Tonduff back the opposite direction over to the Military road and back down the Glencree road.
Graham K. BusheJun 5 2024, 3:48pmThank you all so much for your good wishes and comments on the forum, facebook and whatsapp.
A huge thanks to the crew who got me around. Patrik Albertsson who brought me to the barrier, to start my adventure. Shaun Kelly - Ballinagee Bridge, Clare Keely – Glenmalure, Gav Kennedy – Wicklow Gap and Glenmacnass, Lesleyann Wylie – Sheepshank, Rachel Wisdom – Cloon Woods. And Ben Lewis for being at the barrier to take me back home afterwards. And so many others that I saw at various places along the way.
Thanks also to IMRA and Primal Tracking. I’ve used the tracker a few times now…

Shortly after I did the Round in ’21, Liam Vines suggested I have a go at the “Original”, to which I immediately said, “No Way!”
Then, one day, on a recce for a Leinster Champs race, I found myself looking across the valley from Croaghanmoira towards Carrawaystick….
Since the original days of the Round, so many new paths and routes have been explored and discovered. I had the benefit of all the efforts of those who previously completed or attempted the Round before me. And great advice from fellow runners regarding route choices etc. I was just lucky enough to get the chance to try it.
