Eoin Hamilton | Jan 23 2024, 2:31pm | Will it be north or south this year? |
Eamonn Hodge | Jan 23 2024, 3:12pm | Marlay to Clonegal this year. |
Raymond Cummins | Feb 3 2024, 10:19pm | I have just noticed that the race is now on the same weekend as the Dublin City Marathon. There are quite a few of us who have done both in the past. Was there a reason it was changed please? I have already signed up for DCM. |
Raymond Cummins | Feb 18 2024, 6:59am | Great to see this is changed to the weekend before the bank holiday weekend. Thanks. I am looking forward to taking part, as long as I am fit and able. :-) |
Patricia McLoughlin | Mar 22 2024, 4:25pm | When is this race going to move back to the traditional summer race? This could help greatly with female participation too with not endless hours of darkness! Thanks |
Liam Vines | Mar 25 2024, 7:04am | Hi Patrica First off this early in a very busy start to the year we can’t say where the Wicklow Way Race will be places on the calendar for 2025. There is an idea to place it in June there is also an idea to leave it set up home in October. All ideas will be discussed by the fixtures sub committee when it gets going in late summer. The Irish Ultra Championship has five races in it spread from February to October so there is always going to be two races that spend a chunk of time in the dark. We are listening to all comments and ideas about the calendar and they are all being noted.. Thank you for your input Liam |
Brendan Lawlor | Apr 4 2024, 2:23pm | Hi, would love to do WWR, appreciate any insight as to what's required to qualify for an entry? Cheers, Brendan |
Jason Dowling | Apr 4 2024, 2:33pm | Hi Brendan, You can view the details for last year's event at: https://www.imra.ie/events/details/id/2295/ The below is taken directly from last year's event details: "Entry Criteria: You must have run an ultra race of at least 50km in 2022 or more recently to meet the qualifying entry criteria. Those intending to enter should email the following details: Name, name of qualifying race, link to qualifying race results - to wicklowwayrace@gmail.com in advance of entry to confirm you reach the minimum entry standards." I'm not saying that's the detail for this year but it should give you an idea of what is expected. Hope that helps, Jason. |
Brendan Lawlor | Apr 4 2024, 3:08pm | Super, thanks Jason for the insight, so hopefully Art O'Neill in 2023 would qualify me. Haven't done 50km+ since then (missed AON this year with an injury). Plan to do some longer stuff over the summer, but wanted to ensure I understood what I needed to do to qualify for WWR. Will drop a mail to the gmail account also. Appreciate the insight, Cheers, Brendan |
Eric Riordan | Apr 4 2024, 5:54pm | When should folks be submitting for the pre-approval? |
Phil behan | Apr 5 2024, 9:44am | Brendan, the Glendalough Tucker Trail is often used as a qualifier for the WWR. It also runs some of the route from Glenmalure and on the second leg also. Thanks |
Ronan O'Donnell | Jun 14 2024, 10:05am | Hi, just wondering what the cut offs and time limit for the race? Thanks Ronan |
Lillian Deegan | Jul 17 2024, 3:40pm | ***Update*** Afternoon everyone, This event page has been updated. We have one significant change for this year which will allow us test the waters ahead of 2025. We have removed the pre-entry approval criteria. For 2024, there is no need to send through your qualifying results to meet an entry requirement. Be under no illusion- this 80 miler is tough going. Although, hitting the start line in good shape, decent mileage in your legs and good head space for night into day racing, it is very doable. I will get more odd bits on here over the coming months as the need arises. Any questions, feel free to give a shout. So, till October in person at Marlay Park, good luck building your distance folks :) Lillian |
Lillian Deegan | Jul 18 2024, 3:15pm | Hello all WW Race day hopefuls :) I have popped up two photos of IMRA merch to be run off for event day along side the sign post you’ll want to be seeing in person off that horrid last bit of road way. These items will go up in the shop over the next few days at €30.75 ea. In a bid to keep race entry costs as low as we can, if you would like to place an order outside of your race entry fee, please do get your order in without delay. There is a 6 week lead time from Titian Sports for supply and with this in mind, once I close the shop for the hoodie order - much like the race entry - I’ll not have a late purchase option for anyone. I will only be ordering as many items as people buy in our shop. You will have the option to pick your size when we get the shop link run up. The size you order is the size I’ll order for you. I’ll not be getting surplus sizes. If you need to try sizes out, ask someone who has an IMRA hoodie amongst us. Titan Sports are our main supplier for this item of clothing and we have loads of various event hoodies on the go from recent races. More anon as soon as the shop for the merch is ready to roll. Lillian |
Declan McInerney | Aug 31 2024, 3:00pm | Two of us going to do a night recce Marlay to Iron Bridge in case anyone wants to join in, will be slow! Meeting at Iron Bridge on Saturday 7th Sept at 7.00pm. Give me a text 0878222081 if you want to go. |
Eoin Kelly | Sep 4 2024, 12:36pm | Hi Declan - I'll send you a text now. I'm hoping to be able to tag along if that is ok. Eoin |
Lillian Deegan | Sep 7 2024, 11:37pm | https://wicklownews.net/2024/08/wicklow-way-reroute-in-place-due-to-forestry-works/ |
Gaelan Elliffe | Sep 9 2024, 11:05pm | Would anyone like to join me on a run along a section of the route this Friday Sept 13th starting about 18:30 somewhere near the start or first half of the route, about 30-35km or so. Open to suggestions, a nice and gentle pace. Get in touch OAte6 tree 1 75 too 69 |
Conall Finn | Sep 20 2024, 4:55pm | Hi all . A group of us, (including Steve and Dave from the Happy Pear ) are taking on an endurance challenge this weekend, with the aim of raising awareness of reopening the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk ASAP. We will run the 127K length of the Wicklow Way Starting at 6:30am Saturday morning, in Marley Park and finishing in Clonegal Co Carlow on Sunday evening. This local initiative is championed by @friendsoftheCliffwalk (Instagram), which aims to see the Cliff Walk reopen as soon as possible. This wonderful trail has been closed to the public since 2021. If you could do us a favour and show your support to sign the petition and share the link with your contacts that would be greatly appreciated. It will assist to show the level of support for this initiative, which will actively encourage the Government and Wicklow Co Council to take positive steps to reopen the Cliff Walk, sooner rather than later. (No need to donate, as that goes to the Change-org Platform not the local cause.) Their is an open invite for anyone looking to run a couple of the legs with this group. You can track our progress on Social Media @thehappypear on Insta and also see the ETAs at the various stops along the route. All going well, I might even give the IMRA WW a bash in October. Thank you for your support. https://www.change.org/p/open-our-cliff-walk-in-greystones |
Rob Tobin | Sep 22 2024, 2:33pm | Good afternoon all. I hope your preparations for this year's race are going well. An update on recent improvements to wayfinding along the Wicklow Way. Those out recceing in recent weeks will have noticed new "W" waymarkers at points along the route. These are in addition to the familiar "yellow man" and directional arrows and will prove particularly helpful at points where the WW intersects with other national waymarked trails, e.g. the Dublin Mountain Way at Fairy Castle; St. Kevin's Way at Glendalough. A photograph showing a post with one of the new markers can be seen here: https://www.imra.ie/photos/view/id/243109/ Also to point out that while the installation of the new "W" markers is well progressed, runners shouldn't rely on their presence throughout. There may be sections along the WW where older "yellow man and arrow" markers remain in situ without the addition of these new "W" markers. |
Brendan Lawlor | Sep 23 2024, 11:30am | For those planning recce's, seems there is a motocross enduro comp in Shieldstown Woods (about 2km south of Ironbridge) on Sept 29th from 8am to 7pm with access restricted (signs posted at entry and exit of woods). Something to consider if recce'ing this section. Cheers, Brendan |
Eoin Kelly | Sep 24 2024, 11:15am | Entry purchased. Excited and terrified in equal measures. I think it may have been less terrifying first time around - i didn't know any better then! Anyway, I'll be on the start line for a North South go in October. |
Paul Flynn | Sep 30 2024, 9:35am | Hi Lillian, I know you said you wouldn't be ordering any, but is there any chance you have any spare hoodies going? I didn't order at the time because I didn't know then if I'd be doing the race or not. Thanks, Paul |
Lillian Deegan | Sep 30 2024, 11:07am | ** Runners msg: Hi viz vest needs to be worn for the nighttime road sections for everyone’s safety. ** Hello Paul, Good to see you are coming back to take on the org. route this year. I’m afraid I did not order any extra hoodies, sorry. Advance thanks to all the volunteers in so far. We have a superb line up offering their time for this 20 odd hour race. Cheers guys! I hope to get comms moving this week with you for an area that suits you on event night/day. And lastly for now - gun time for this year’s race is as per event page - 21h. Sign-in and tracker fitting will be in the GAA Clubhouse off Grange Road. I’ll be back with more info. over the next short while. Good luck to all heading into taper mode. Lillian |
Lillian Deegan | Sep 30 2024, 11:29am | On the ask for a hi viz vest - this item is asked for to ensure you can be seen on the road sections of this race. Armbands or lights would do. Main thing is reflectors of some sort are worn so you can be seen. |
John Murphy74 | Sep 30 2024, 11:48am | Lillian, don't forget to ring Met Eireann and order the good ( but not too good) weather! |
Paul Flynn | Sep 30 2024, 2:03pm | Thanks Lillian, no bother, it was a long shot. |
Ray Chambers Curtin | Sep 30 2024, 2:38pm | I'm just checking if a bus back to Marlay Park has been organised. Or will I have to run back! No thanks, my driver has gone to the Himalayas |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 1 2024, 5:18pm | It’s a case of the statue with the milk bottles out on the step up to gun time from now John ;) No transport our end planned for the return Ray. You will need to sort same yourself. |
Ivan Levkivskyi | Oct 1 2024, 5:30pm | > I'm just checking if a bus back to Marlay Park has been organised. FWIW I am also interested in a return bus. I guess if enough there are enough of us, we can hire a bus (like last year). |
Brian O'Grady | Oct 3 2024, 4:25pm | I'm happy to chip in for a bus too. My gang will be dot watching in Clare (the feckers) so I need to figure out how to get back without hobbling on and off multiple forms of transport to get back to my car |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 3 2024, 4:48pm | Lads, do ye want to give the carpooling link on the event page a shot? Ye can pop up specific info. and swap Ph. No’s on there. Plus, I’ve sent out a little msg to see if one of our event crew might be willing to pull a Sam Fox of ‘23 for us. More anon |
Rob Tobin | Oct 3 2024, 5:17pm | Folks, following on from Lillian's message I've now added a Carpool option for minibus departing Clonegal at 18:00 on Friday 18th. This is to get runners to Marlay Park in good time for race start. For now, we are asking anyone who is interested in booking a seat on the bus to please navigate to the event's "Details" tab, scroll down to "Carpool" and click "Book". Once we've an idea of numbers interested we will set up a WhatsApp group to coordinate the booking and firm up on cost per head. The more the merrier, all aboard, etc.. |
Avril Challoner | Oct 4 2024, 10:08am | Car added to carpool for getting registration from Clontarf. I'm near the DART station which may be useful for some. Driving via EastLink toll bridge. |
Brian O'Grady | Oct 4 2024, 1:58pm | That's great. Thanks guys |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 5 2024, 11:25am | Morning everyone, Our race day run through went up yesterday. Please see event page for this -> https://media.imra.ie/ad-hoc/2024_WW_Race_Info_Pack.pdf Lillian |
Walsh Rowan | Oct 7 2024, 10:48am | Morning, just wondering if someone has a recent GPX file for this. I have the one from last year's race but understand there are some changes |
Paul Flynn | Oct 7 2024, 11:58am | Apart from the fairly obvious one of it going North to South this year, the only change I'm aware of is this: https://www.independent.ie/regionals/wicklow/lifestyle/wicklow-way-rerouted-due-to-forestry-works/a268922666.html |
nicola cleary | Oct 7 2024, 12:07pm | That section is back to normal. I was there last Wednesday and WW was as normal. |
Rob Tobin | Oct 7 2024, 1:42pm | Thanks to everyone who has already indicated their interest in minibus transport from Clonegal to race start. Race night is now little over a week away and we need to set the minibus wheels in motion. Can anyone who might be interested and hasn't already done so please select this option on the carpool page by 15:00 tomorrow, Tuesday 8th. Thank you. |
Eamonn Hodge | Oct 8 2024, 8:47pm | Any chance of a Hiiker discount for Wicklow Way Racers Eoin?! |
Eamonn Hodge | Oct 9 2024, 11:18am | Was discounted to 40 euro for the year already! |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 10 2024, 1:18pm | The shop for this event closes tomorrow, Friday 11th October 2024, at 6pm. |
Paolo Girolami | Oct 10 2024, 2:41pm |
Morning, just wondering if someone has a recent GPX file for this. I have the one from last year's race but understand there are some changes
I used Garmin BaseCamp to compare a few GPX files available online and the GPX on Hiker was more detailed (more track points) matching trails on the map fairly accurately. That's the one I used to create the course in Garmin Connect and tracks in a couple of navigation apps on my phone. It can be downloaded here: https://hiiker.app/trails/ireland/county-dublin/wicklow-way |
Walsh Rowan | Oct 10 2024, 3:54pm | Thanks all, don't get to Wicklow too much so all your local knowledge is a help |
Barry McCabe | Oct 10 2024, 10:49pm | Hi all how do I access the shop for this event I see it's closing tomorrow ? I can see where race entries are listed but don't see anything related to this event ? |
Graham K. Bushe | Oct 11 2024, 9:20am | Hi Barry, I hope you see this in time. You should be able to find it in the shop. Open the MEMBERSHIP/SHOP/ONLINE ENTRIES tab, at the top of the page when you are logged in to your account. Alternatively, if you open the event details page while you are logged in, you should see a "Purchase Event Entry" button to the right of the race description. This will put it in your basket and bring you straight to the shop. Hope that helps. g |
Pól Ó Murchú | Oct 12 2024, 9:59pm | Looking over the entry list this years race looks like its going to be a real competitive race...some line up and great to see the numbers increase again this year. This year marks the 11th running of the event and from a mere 9 starters and 7 finishers in 2003 this year sees 95 entries - no doubt there will be some last minute drop outs expected but looks set to be a record number of starters this year. Great to see an increase in the number in the womens field also this year over the last couple of years and with some really talented runners in the mix. This race looks set to be a real close one. Hopefully we will see a record number of finishers here too as we see many previous runners return again this year having no doubt learned a lot from their previous years out on the course. Massive well done to RD Lillian and all involved in putting on this race again this year and indeed Jeff and Robbie who were the original organisers of this race before Lillian took over the mantle in 2017. It has to be one of the most time intensive races on the calendar both from an pre-race organisation point of view and of course the many many hours that will be spent out on the course on the day. Below is the list of entries along with their corresponding ITRA runner index. Small number missing from the list and may be to do with names, date of birth or countries not matching the ITRA database, multiple profiles or not having run an ITRA ranked race before. Happy to amend/correct list if you have info to correct. Eamonn Hodge | Oct 13 2024, 9:40am | That's brilliant Pól. I'm trying to link my Maurice Mullins 2024 trudge to my profile in ITRA but it's not showing up. Do you know if results have not been uploaded or something? I like the idea of the ITRA rankings to attempt to give people a seeding for events like this. Several previous winners in both the men's and women's on the start list! |
Mick Hanney | Oct 13 2024, 3:32pm | FYI re: CP at Mucklagh. Those you ran last year will be familiar with its location. Just to clarify the location for those that aren't familiar. Its about 500m north of Ironbridge, where runners turn left from the road onto the single track. We'll be set up at the yellow barrier and runners leaving the CP will have the short, sharp downhill before they cross the river Ow heading south. After last year we'll be timing Eamon Hodge especially at this CP and ejecting him after, oh I say, 5 mins. ;-) |
Eamonn Hodge | Oct 14 2024, 8:44am | There'll be dust rising from my heels I'll be through your checkpoint that fast. You'll be spinning Mick! |
John Murphy74 | Oct 14 2024, 8:59am | The River Ow is very well named at that point, I assume the full irish breakfast and the foot massage comes as standard at the Cp at Mucklagh? |
Adrian Hennessy | Oct 14 2024, 10:45am | Will anyone happen to be passing close to Naas or even Red Cow on the way to the race that I can bum a lift from? I don't fancy the long warm up. |
Jan Tomasek | Oct 14 2024, 12:24pm | Is this good enough map for the race(if I print it)? https://visitwicklow.ie/wp-assets/uploads/2018/04/Wicklow-Way-Maps-Download-Print-Scroll.pdf |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 14 2024, 1:00pm | Hi Jan, That mapping will be fine so long as you ensure they are laminated or sealed to keep them dry for the duration of the race. @Eamonn, I felt for you with Mick’s mention there ;) What’s the betting all eyes will be on you rocking into and out of Iron Bridge… No pressure at all! Lillian |
Andy Keeling | Oct 14 2024, 1:15pm | I can give you a lift from red cow Adrian if you don't get a better offer of one from Naas. Ow ate tree ate 9 too won six 5 ate. Give me a text if you want picking up |
Andy Keeling | Oct 14 2024, 8:51pm | Tracker link https://live.primaltracking.com/wwrace2024/ |
Andy Keeling | Oct 14 2024, 9:04pm | Sorry guys, itbappears ive jumped the gun. Please disregard the link above. Its not ready yet |
Andy Keeling | Oct 14 2024, 9:04pm | Sorry guys, it appears ive jumped the gun. Please disregard the link above. Its not ready yet |
Eamonn Hodge | Oct 14 2024, 9:14pm | It's live now! |
Eamonn Hodge | Oct 14 2024, 9:19pm | Anyone heading from Dun Laoghaire or nearby and want to share a taxi? |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 14 2024, 9:28pm | Nope Eamonn & all. Andy is chomping at the bit there and took a notion to post a link that’s not complete as yet. Primal have set up the site but with a few errors that I expect will be corrected tomorrow or when they can. I will post the race participant tracker link as soon as it is ready to share with everyone. Lillian |
Andy Keeling | Oct 14 2024, 9:33pm | My bad everyone. Tapering sucks. |
John Murphy74 | Oct 14 2024, 9:55pm | Is there still seats left on the bus from Clonegal Friday? |
Rob Tobin | Oct 14 2024, 10:06pm | Hi John, we'll try to find you a seat on the bus. Hope you're okay with the tour guide seat with the microphone, up beside the driver? If you haven't already done so you can click to book a seat on the "Carpool" tab, then I'll have your email and phone number and I will fill you in on details. |
John Murphy74 | Oct 14 2024, 10:25pm | I do a mean sing song! |
Adrian Hennessy | Oct 15 2024, 4:26pm | Thanks Andy, I'll drop you a line about that lift. |
Avril Challoner | Oct 15 2024, 4:53pm | Eamonn I am volunteering at registration and driving past Booterstown DART station if that's any use? It's on carpool or just give me a text directly if you want a lift. |
Eamonn Hodge | Oct 15 2024, 9:45pm | Thanks Avril, I'll send you a message. |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 16 2024, 10:26am | Morning all, Primal Tracking have the site sorted and participants loaded in running order - https://live.primaltracking.com/wwrace2024/ I was gonna ask Andy Keeling to armchair all runners for me to be sure we stick about the red line 127kms race route, but then I remembered he will be on the hard end of the field himself. So, we have Paul Kelly minding all from his perch in Clonegal and Jean-Marie doing the do from gun time from Marlay. Should anyone divert mightily off the race route, we will give you a bell - all mandatory kit phones need to be reachable - NO AIRPLANE MODE to save battery guys. I’ll be back later with a reminder of checkpoints and drop bag details and a few other odd bits as we head for our race night date. Lillian |
Euan Mortlock | Oct 16 2024, 11:53am | Hi everyone, bit of a long shot but I'm flying over from Bristol for the race and only just realised I won't be able to take poles with me. If anyone has a set not being used that they would be happy to lend for the race I would be really grateful! Happy to throw some euros in or some kind of deposit for peace of mind too. Euan |
Walsh Rowan | Oct 16 2024, 12:02pm | Hi Euan, I have taken carbon poles in my carry-on on Aer Lingus and Ryanair flights before without any issues |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 16 2024, 12:04pm | Hey Euan, Great to hear you are flying in to race with us. Here’s hoping you’ll not be in a hoop for the return flight. I have two sets of poles packed for race day. See me at reg. to pick up one of them. |
Euan Mortlock | Oct 16 2024, 12:39pm | Thanks so much Lillian, you are a lifesaver! Looking forward to it, see you then |
Aideen Burke | Oct 16 2024, 4:43pm | Looking for a lift to Marlay from D8 (Dolphins Barn) if anyone happens to be passing through |
Rob Tobin | Oct 16 2024, 4:49pm | Hi Aideen we're on volunteer duties and will be heading over for 6ish, leaving Rialto around 5:30ish if that's not too early for you? |
Aideen Burke | Oct 16 2024, 9:40pm | Thanks Rob, that might be a little early alright but appreciate the offer - see you there! |
Peter Grier | Oct 16 2024, 11:10pm | Aideen, I'll be on the 74 from Crumlin/Dolphin's Barn through to Marlay, which isn't ideal but still is technically 'direct'. Keeping eyes peeled on here if anyone else is driving from around here - though I recognise a few names I might try to drop a line to. Will let you know if I find anything. |
Alastair Higgins | Oct 17 2024, 1:55pm | Hi everyone. Not long to go now! Just wondering if anyone might be heading to the start from D7/Stoneybatter/Cabra area? I planned on getting the bus but thought I might as well ask. Good luck to everyone tomorrow. |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 17 2024, 7:36pm | Only one sleep left... And chipper food of your choice at the finish line. Spoke with Mrs Dunne in the pub across from the WW marker plaque this morning. And it is all systems go down home to welcome the IMRA 80 miler racers once again. Dunnes pub have toilets, a bar and a place to change in for those who need it. I think that is all for now. If I've missed anything, please just ask. Otherwise, see you tomorrow evening with bells on. Lillian |
Mick Hanney | Oct 17 2024, 8:25pm | Special mention to the Wicklow way racers that have done the race multiple times. Once is enough for many :-) A couple of shout outs to the repeaters. Liam Costello (8), Paul Croke (6, Clare Keeley (5), Ray Cummins (4) Graham Bushe (3) I'm sure there are more, as I didn't do a rigorous analysis. |
Paul Flynn | Oct 18 2024, 10:15am | Hi Lillian, Can you just confirm which car-park we should use please? Your Google Maps pin seems to be on the main Marlay Park car-park and not the GAA club one. Is this correct? Thanks, Paul |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 18 2024, 10:35am | Morning Paul, Parking is in just off the main car park accessed from Grange Road. Plus, as per link shared last night, you walk up to the GAA Clubhouse from the car parking area. I only have parking for our CP vehicles up by the clubhouse. I will have some of our volunteers down about the main gate and car park this evening also. See you later. Lillian |
Miriam Maher | Oct 18 2024, 11:13am | The very best to all the hardy souls heading out along the Wicklow Way later on! The dot watching for the rest of us is going to be a great distraction from our less adventurous Friday nights and Saturdays:) Kate Flynn will be providing updates on our official social media platforms on Instagram and Facebook. So crews, don’t forget to tag us @irishmountainrunning |
laura burns | Oct 18 2024, 1:15pm | Hi sorry if this has already been asked, will there be hot water available at any CP? Thanks, Laura |
Mick Hanney | Oct 18 2024, 1:51pm | At CP3 Mucklagh I'll have my own flask. Can't guarantee I won't have used it all, but I'll try keep some in reserve. |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 18 2024, 2:01pm | Hi Laura, Was hoping, seeing your name up the top there, that the msg wasn’t an “I need to drop” kinda one :) You’ll be able to get hot water at CP3 - Mucklagh and CP4 - The Dying Cow. Lillian |
Avril Challoner | Oct 18 2024, 2:09pm | Laura, I'll have a stove at Glendalough. If I see your dot approaching and we aren't swamped with runners I can put on a pot for you! |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 18 2024, 2:10pm | Also hot water at CP1 - Crone. |
laura burns | Oct 18 2024, 3:36pm | Ah no Lillian, I'll be there. Thanks for all the info everyone |
Ray Chambers Curtin | Oct 18 2024, 5:22pm | Wishing you all the best in the race. But unfortunately I have to pull out due to an injury |
Anna Michael | Oct 19 2024, 8:08am | Lillian there was a tracker in the bag that you had my phone in at Glendalough - Brian Smyth #87. Orlaith will bring it down to the finish later today. Well done to all the runners and super volunteers |
Alan Kennedy | Oct 19 2024, 2:01pm | Great dot watching today. Congrats to Aideen on winning the ladies race. |
Joan Ryan | Oct 19 2024, 2:47pm | Totally addictive dot watching from last night. Well done to all of you battling through that. So so impressive |
Paul Flynn | Oct 19 2024, 4:02pm | FYI I retired at CP4 and gave my tracker to a volunteer, but on the Primal Tracking page I'm showing as having finished at 15:25. Thanks to all the volunteers. I really enjoyed the event, despite having to DNF. |
Graham K. Bushe | Oct 19 2024, 5:18pm | A HUGE THANKS to Lillian, Rob and the MANY volunteers, who all gave up so much of their time, (not only today, but in the days, weeks, and months leading up to this race) so we could torture ourselves.... In a nice way. Well done to all the runners. It's no easy task getting yourself to the start line for this one. So, no matter how many km you did today, I hope you can look back (eventually) and remember some of the good stuff, and also what you learned.g |
Laura Flynn | Oct 19 2024, 6:51pm | Well done to everyone involved in this amazing event. After my own short shift at the GAA club as I heading home to bed at 9.30 I was in awe at the volunteers who headed off into the mountains for the the rest of the night and a good part of today. And of course the 88 or so runners setting out from Marley. Well done to you all. What an achievement even to toe the line. And congratulations to the podium finishers male and female. |
Eoin Mac Mahon | Oct 20 2024, 8:30am | Thanks a million to Lillian and the many volunteers. This race is a well oiled machine and it's great to be able to take part in it. The level of support is unreal. Thanks again |
Sean Forsyth | Oct 20 2024, 10:13am | To Lilian and every single person that was out on trail helping for this race, thank you so much. Your time, effort, organisation and efficiency was unreal. For tired runners, it was so great to have a smiling face offering to help with food, water, treats and those all important words of encouragement. My only regret (looking back) was not having some of those hot potatoes and Glendalough..could sure do with them now. So thank you to all volunteers.. your work, as always, ensures us runners can actually get out and experience such epic adventures. Ps shout out to Eamon Hodges brother in law Pat...some dedication to be out camping and up take photos at 5am. It was nice to stop and talk die a feq |
nicola cleary | Oct 20 2024, 10:16am | To Lillian and all your crew. That was an incredible race. Thank you to everyone at the aid stations. Going well above and beyond and to the lovely finish crew. What a day. Thank you so much! |
Aideen Burke | Oct 20 2024, 10:44am | Huge Thank You to Lillian, Rob and all the other wonderful volunteers who gave up so much of their time for this race. The support at the CPs was just incredible - I’m not sure a crew would have done as good a job. This is such a special race - running over the hills in the moonlight was magical. Well done to everyone who made the start line and wishing any injured runners a speedy recovery. |
Adrian Hennessy | Oct 20 2024, 11:35am | It’s been a few years since I did the WWR and it’s gone from strength to strength. Lillian and her crew did an amazing job. Too many names to start listing people - many of whom stayed up all night. Then they had to deal with the likes of me who DNF. The CPs were organised like clockwork. Thanks all. |
Liam Costello | Oct 20 2024, 12:33pm | Thank you Lillian and all the amazing volunteers. Such a wonderful event to have the privilege of running every year. Those hot potatoes were a wonderful addition. The amount of planning and work that goes into this event is unreal. |
Paolo Girolami | Oct 20 2024, 12:41pm | I don't remember ever feeling this bad after the WW race: last night I had to use one my old crutches to go up the stairs and today I have some weird eye bags that make me look like a deformed racoon. I had a lot of fun though, even more so when in Dying Cow I finally bothered to do the math between checkpoints and realized the minimum time between DC and the finish had been reduced compared to the my previous participations. I was so thrilled to realize I'd have push it really hard over the last 28 km not DNF... : ) Enough irony! Huge thanks Lillian, Rob, and all the volunteers who gave their time to get such a great race so superbly organized! |
Declan McInerney | Oct 20 2024, 12:41pm | To Lillian, Rob and all the volunteers a massive thank you for all your help, organisation and dedication, it's an epic undertaking. Thanks for the rescue at the end. Well done to all the runners, we are so lucky to be able to take part in this brilliant event. |
Ronan Lyons | Oct 20 2024, 1:08pm | As a first time participant I really did not know what to expect and would I even be able but the help, the encouragement and the words of support by all the volunteers at the checkpoints willed you on to stay going - thank you all so much. It’s the combination of all the things they do to help and always asking what else can I do, legends- one & all! At the finish line they were still a great help, not sure I would have been able to carry my own bags to the car! Thank you all for going above & beyond! |
Gaelan Elliffe | Oct 20 2024, 1:09pm | A big thank you to Lillian and all the crew for a fantastic event. Everything was superb. The aid station's were great with the hot potatoes being my favourite. Lillian and Derek somehow appeared to be at every checkpoint. Luke and then Derek at a couple could not have been more helpful. Thank you guys. Perfect weather and a clear moonlit night to be out in the wicklow hills, a wonderful and memorable night. |
Peter Doyle | Oct 20 2024, 1:23pm | To echo what has been said before, thanks to Lillian & all the volunteers that made for such a brilliant event. Was a privilege to be out in the mountains in perfect conditions to see spectacular stars, moon, sunrise and scenic views. Definitely would not have made it to the end without the help, encouragement & fine array of food & drink provided by the volunteers - the hot potatoes this year were a worthy replacement for last years pancakes. Liam Vines will have to up his game next year :-) The slushie & ice cream option on leg 4 also was a life saver. What a great event & again thanks to Lillian who was everywhere on the route. |
John Murphy74 | Oct 20 2024, 1:44pm | I'll add my appreciation too. This race is hands down the best organised in the whole country. Its done by runners for runners and showcases all the best about the mountain running community cooperation, friendship and fun. I was made feel as important as any elite runner at the aid stations. I felt so humbled. A huge thank you to Lillian and everyone else that made this race so wonderful ( I wasn't saying that in Glendalogh was I Lillian) . Till next year...ah I thought I'd not be saying that today! |
Derek Hay | Oct 20 2024, 1:51pm | I was handed a bank of Ireland bank card that was found by a runner along the wicklow way between Ironbridge and the Dying Cow (I'm not sure exactly where between the two). If you think it's yours or you know someone that lost a card in that area pls get in touch and I can arrange to get it back to you. Thanks. |
Andy Keeling | Oct 20 2024, 3:39pm | Thank you Lillian and all the crew. Amazing experience. Race report up. |
Neil Gunning | Oct 20 2024, 4:20pm | Thanks to Lillian & all the volunteers who made this event such a great one again. 2nd attempt, 2nd time coming up short but plenty of learning. Thanks to Anna & Orlaith for getting me into and out of Glendalough & there was a 3rd girl but have a bit of a fuzzy brain. And to Alison and Paul for doing my crew. Maybe South to North might treat me better ;) |
Denis Mc glynn | Oct 20 2024, 4:20pm | Well Done everyone. Not a bad Andy.... 4th place is a super finish. What an achievement to complete 127km. |
Denis Mc glynn | Oct 20 2024, 4:21pm | Too |
Ivan Levkivskyi | Oct 20 2024, 6:23pm | Thanks to Lillian & all the volunteers! It was my third WWR and each year it was amazing. Btw after reading Andy's report it turns out I am not the only one who got stung during the race :-) (but in my case I am quite sure it was a bee not a wasp, and it was on the other side of CP4). |
Peter Doyle | Oct 20 2024, 7:08pm | Whiling away a relaxing recovery day and still glowing somewhat from sense of achievement of finishing for a second time I figured what better way then to spend some time flicking through the primal tracking race stats. Lots of interesting info for those so inclined :-) No doubt once organisers have managed to get a rest there will be work done to formalise and finalise results. However, figure worth noting that I see a small error in the details for me in terms of finishing position. It will probably come out in the wash once tracker details are cross checked against finishing records. Can supply more details if needed. |
Brian O'Grady | Oct 21 2024, 8:41am | A tough but good day made even better by running with great people along the course. The weather couldn't have been better, with pretty much a full moon, low wind, and warm sunshine on Saturday. I've never come across a more well-run set of aid stations with volunteers love-bombing us and being totally on the ball with the needs of the runners. Fair play to Lillian and her team. The ice cream van in the middle of nowhere giving out free 99's to the runners was just brilliant. Many thanks to Lillian and Rob for everything |
Anthony Sheridan | Oct 21 2024, 8:56am | Morning Thanks so much to Lillian and all the volunteers for their help particularly at the check point stations and support, it really is a great event. |
Colin doyle | Oct 21 2024, 10:06am | A huge thankyou to Lillian and all the volunteers who gave up their time in the organisation of this amazing event and the support and love they gave to not only the runners but the friends and families of the runners too. The reports of kindness along the route and at the superb checkpoints are truly heart warming and whether people made it to Crone or Clonegal, every step in this event was a joy to be a part of. To all involved, Thankyou. |
John Garry Moore | Oct 21 2024, 10:11am | Happy Monday all and hope you all had a fantastic weekend :) another year and another fantastic WWR. Thanks to everyone who worked hard and gave up their time to put on this fantastic event :) such a pleasure to be able to participate in such a well organized event. Already looking forward to nexts years race. Big round of applause for Lillian and all the crew for a another wonderful event :) |
Sarah Kearns | Oct 21 2024, 10:23am | Words fail me to even try to describe the adventure I had! How Lillian and her amazing team manage to put on such a well organised event is pure stuff of dreams or the plot of an evil genius depending on how steep the hill was at the time. At no point did I ever feel on my own! I was so well looked after not only by my crew but also every single person out there. As I arrived at each station it was like being greeted by old friends - 'Hi Sarah - your gang are over there, let us know if you need anything' Time is the most precious gift that a person can give you and I'm truly thankful to each of you that gave it so generously this weekend. I hope to pay you back in kind in the future when it's your turn to get out there! |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 21 2024, 10:40am | Colin, I was blown away to see the huge amount of mammies and daddies out at all hours on our race route from start to finish this year. Fair dues to each and all of them - at every CP great tales were being relayed as they waited for their adult son/ daughter to rock in and out again. #GreatLaughterHad Gaelan, You are spot on. Poor Derek got the thin edge of the wedge over the 20 odd hours I think. With the IMRA van opting to take unwelcome downtime, Derek came to my rescue every time from further down the route to try help me get moving. (Plus Gaelan, your CP bits are with Derek. We’ll get them back to you as soon as). I hope all our tip top volunteers took it super handy yesterday. Thank you all so so much. Your energy from start to finish was just the best! I didn’t do a tap myself yesterday, I will get the results tallied and wrapped up with Primal today all going well. And they will be published on the IMRA site as soon as is possible. (Peter Doyle - if you want to bang me off your tracking query, please fire ahead - Lillian.deegan@imra.ie, ta). Hearty congratulations to every single runner and especially to our lead man - Keith and lead lady - Aideen - fair play guys! Savage forward momentum there. Plus, a special mention goes to Andy Keeling for taking to this event to close out his 100th IMRA outing. Congratulations on this milestone Andy ;) I’ll be back again once I’ve the results ran through and odd bit tidied up. I have plenty of drop bags and bits to be rehoused. Good luck to everyone getting their body back to playing ball with ease again. Lillian |
Brendan Lawlor | Oct 21 2024, 12:23pm | First time doing WWR, what a privilege to have been part of this. Highs and lows throughout the night and day, kept going by the great support and encouragement along the way. Thank you to Eoin and Vincent who were our crew across CP3 and CP4, got us in, topped us up and got us out and kept us moving. Thanks lads. Biggest thanks to Lillian and all those involved in organising, co-ordinating and running the event, amazing dedication, passion and energy. In the depths of darkness struggling on the down hills I cursed and swore I'd never be back, but now, 2 days later, who knows. Thank you Lillian, all the organisers and volunteers for enabling such a phenomenal experience for all of us runners, Brendan |
Richard Moriarty | Oct 22 2024, 12:48pm | I can't thank Lillian and the team for giving up their time on the organisation and running of this race. They allow us the privilege to run the Wicklow Way, and it really was a privilege, especially in that amazing weather. The reports are great to read, and so glad that my hallucinations weren't lonely up there....I saw old witches, multitudes of deer, rabbits, pheasants, an upside down washing basket even 2 wild cats in the trees, which all turned out to be leaves/bushes/ferns.......I even saw an ice cream van in the middle of nowhere that I ran past without stopping as I knew it was a hallucination....you can't trick me |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 22 2024, 2:54pm | Rich, I’ve just popped up a pic from the crew WhatsApp chat/ Andre’s location on race day - 3dgs and Mr. Whippy in position. I can well imagine the mind games being played out as ye moved closer to Clonegal :) Sean’s race report is mint with a glorious amount of “is it real” jazz. Fair dues Sean! John Murphy, no kidding there for sure! I reckon you had your most memorable moment of contemplation sitting in the sunshine off the Derry River, 99 in hand, donkeys sounding loudly in the background and you chin wagging away on the bench costing medical treatments at home vs abroad. You were full of sensible chat too ;) So guys, Jeff has the official results published. Any odd queries, please email results@gmail.com And just to note, the trackers are in place to track the race from start to finish. We use manual physical sheets to record our finish times of all runners. Lillian |
Clare Keeley | Oct 22 2024, 7:00pm | The Wicklow Way Race is such a special event on the IMRA calendar and one that has the ability bury down like a little mole into your soul! And every year it comes around there is that little bit of you that thinks “oh maybe?!?”! To Lillian, Rob and all the volunteers , the company of other runners and their crew who made this race as fabulous as it always is-a huge thank you x. So much work goes into this event and it is hugely appreciated. I had Katie, Sarah and Ciara (my girls) and Ciara’s Callum as crew ,they were amazing and I wish I could have seen it to the end for them.. Liam walked up to meet my sorry soul coming down from Mullacor, thinking he was going to give me a tough talking to but the wonky bobbing of my head torch he knew I was bunched.! I had my first race DNF in over 10 years on Saturday morning, I thought the feeling would be terrible but it was ok and if it was going to be any race, I am glad it was this one. Have already said to the girls , we will go again next year if we can! Clare |
liam kenny | Oct 22 2024, 7:54pm | To Lillian, Rob and every volunteer who had a part in this epic event, thank you, Today for me was the day it finally hit me what I achieved along with so many other soldiers, this race started back in January for me, I-new I left something behind last year and had to give it a lash again but this time I was prepared both mentally and physically and pairing up with Sean was key as we understood each other from spending a lot of time preparing, I also seen some weird and wonderful things along the way, Eagerly waiting for the calendar to come out to see have we a summer WW to look forward to dare I say it we might go again, Thanks again folks legends!! |
Joan Ryan | Oct 23 2024, 12:08pm | Thanks so much to Lillian and the huge band of volunteers for a really fabulous adventure. I was made feel so welcome by every one of you the from start to finish. It was my first time participating and it was into a lot of unknowns for me. The other participants that I met and chatted to along the way were all super and helped make the miles pass by. I am delighted to have done it and the memories are going to last a long time. Aileen was the best crew I could have asked for. Race report up. |
Imogen Boaden | Oct 23 2024, 8:01pm | To all the IMRA crew, thank you so much for making the Wicklow Way Race such a special event. The minute I landed at registration, I could feel the excitement and positive vibes. Each aid station was welcoming and warm which really helped me push on. The race was an incredible experience and I'll definitely be back for more next year. Cheers everyone! |
Conall Finn | Oct 24 2024, 3:30pm | Massive thanks to Lillian, Rob and all the IMRA volunteer crew for making this race happen. What an epic race from start to finish. Dublin at night under a Hunter Moon, no rain and low enough winds. Near perfect conditions. Lines of head torches snaking up and around Djouce. Pure Class. The butter fried salty tasty taters at CP2 Glendalough, with a roaring fire nearly, making it nearly too inviting, but offering a welcome reprieve. The Ironbridge Ice-cream brought me back to my childhood memories and had me clip clopping up the slippery steps. Lots of chats along the route with fellow runners (Andy/ Aideen/ Clare/ Julian/ John/ Dec... etc) and brilliant crewing by the volunteers to get us in and out of CPs swiftly. The surprise support crew appearances for me (Orlaith/ Anna at CP2, Eoin Ward CP3/4 and Conor O'Neill CP4) made a massive difference to my energy levels, along with all the messages of support from back home and the KAC crew. Retrospectively I'm secretly relieved I wasn't sharing a lift home with Aideen (That was the original plan). She blazed a trail, to take the well deserved female trophy home. I was some distance behind.... still very chuffed to make the Cut Off and get a 1st WW Race under my belt. Delighted to see Andy being awarded his 100 IMRA vest by Liam. The run gods seemed to keep his stamina nice and high to mark the occasion. Until the next adventure, keep on keeping on. BTW. If you would like to see the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk reopened, sooner rather than later, please consider signing the petition link below, to encourage positive action from the Government and Local CoCo on reopening this national trail. https://www.change.org/p/open-our-cliff-walk-in-greystones |
Lillian Deegan | Oct 25 2024, 10:46am | Lost & Found - with a plan in place for all drop bags to be rehoused - I’m on to note I’ve one pair of ladies Hoka road shoes. Not sure which CP they were picked up at, probably the finish line. I’ll keep them in the IMRA van for someone to claim them. Good luck to those doing this weekends night runs and to those in to run DMC too. Lillian |
John Garry Moore | Oct 26 2024, 3:00pm | Hard to believe it’s already a week since the race :) Just wondering when results will be available for ITRA :) Hope everyone is feeling well a week later :) |
Adrian English | Oct 26 2024, 9:41pm | Great reports from everyone. Can't believe it's only been a week. Anyone else going to try and drag themselves around DCM tomorrow? Thanks to all who helped us survive the wilds of WWU. On a separate note, I found two different gloves out on the course. If anyone lost either a black ronhill glove or a black northface glove then let me know. Cheers all. |
Richard Gallagher | Oct 27 2024, 4:57pm | Belated thanks to Lillian, Derek and all the volunteers along the way in the CP’s, great chats throughout the race from fellow runners. Some great performances in the DCM earlier today, some fresher than expected legs it seems a week on from the WWR. Q. Is the next WWR’25 being pencilled for June? |
