In advance of the race the Spanish team hosted a two week camp in the region and the race favourite Luis Alberto Hernando had run the course five times. This gave an indication of the competition the Irish athletes were up against. Despite the preparation, the winning time was still 25 minutes slower than that predicted by the organisers.

First home for the Irish was Paddy O’Leary racing hard for 26th place overall. First of the ladies was Yvonne Naughton, just ahead of Carol Morgan. All 7 selected Irish runners finished the race and were welcomed home by Irish international mountain runner Eoin Flynn who was finishing line compère for the event.

Well done all.
