Barbara O'BeirneMar 28 2010, 11:27pmDies anyone know what the story is with this? Do you need a team of 3? Can you just pay on the day or do you have to fund raise? thanks
Niamh O CeallaighMar 29 2010, 7:44amHi Barbara,
Just turn up on the day. Teams will be picked randomly from those who turn up.
You don't need to fundraise. All proceeds of the race go to Goal. You will need to pay the 7 Euro race entry plus the 10Euro IMRA membership fee if you have not yet joined up this year.
Niamh
Paul Brew CrewMar 29 2010, 11:33pmHi Niamh, Paul here from the Brew Crew. We plan to come along to assist at the race. We'll supply the usual teas, coffees, sandwiches for the marshals on the day. If any of the athletes have any special dietary requests, we would be glad to assist if possible. Regards, Paul. info@brewcrewcafe.ie
David HealyApr 4 2010, 3:08pmCan a person just run all three laps on their own?
Mick HanneyApr 4 2010, 6:25pm1 lap per person. The main objective here is to raise a few bob for GOAL and have a bit of craic and the randomness of the draw helps that.
Derek SandersonApr 4 2010, 9:50pmHi there. Have never run with imra before and Ercus Stewart told me about you. Would like to try it this Wednesday with a few guys. Is it ok to just turn up and pay the €7 for charity and if we like it and want to join pay the €10 membership next time we go?
Thanks. Derek
Dermot MurphyApr 5 2010, 9:07amDerek, that is fine, just make sure to make the registration people aware that this is what you want to do.
Sam ScrivenApr 6 2010, 9:55amHi. Where is registration? And is it closer to Dalkey or Killiney DART station?
Thanks
Diarmuid O'ColmainApr 6 2010, 11:18amget off the Dart at Dalkey Dart station. leaving the station, turn left and use the road bridge over the railway line. Then turn immediately right up Cunningham Road. A few hundred metres up the hill you meet a T junction and turn right. After a few hundred metres you reach Dalkey Avenue, the main road up towards Killiney. Turn left and continue up this road until you see Killiney Park on your left. Enter the park on the footpath by the road up to the car park. Registration will be on the grass by the car park. Total distance about 1.0k.

Dermot MurphyApr 7 2010, 8:29amJust a couple of points on tonight's.

Registration closes at 7:15pm sharp. We will need to organise the teams before the start at 7:30pm, so please be there as early as possible.
As all proceeds of tonight's race go to charity, I would appreciate if people could round up their race and/or registration fees, were possible.
After race presentation is at the Club bar in Dalkey. Prizes for the first team and also a few spot prizes.
Jim FitzharrisApr 7 2010, 2:47pmHi all,

I am most reluctant to disagree with our President online but I was intrigued to read that a non-IMRA member could turn up tonight and just pay the €7 race fee but not the €10 annual membership fee. I presume new runners tonight will be assigned a number for 2010 so how will the next race director/money collector know that they have not paid for the year?

Apart from that, does the joining fee also involve signing the membership form thereby indicating acceptance of the "terms & conditions" of being an IMRA member?

Finally, I am not at all sure that the Goal relay race is a good place to "try out" the IMRA scene since the race is unlike any other in the calendar. If someone really wants to see what a race is like without paying €17 I would respectfully suggest that they go along to a "typical" race, pick a good vantage point and watch the proceedings.

I am not trying to be smart here - I have done both race director and money collector so I am trying to envisage how this can be handled!

Cheers,

Jim.
Alan DugganApr 7 2010, 2:53pmHi guys, anything on google maps for the starting point? And is there much parking?
Kevin O'RiordanApr 7 2010, 3:00pmMy understanding is that everyone gets a once-off number for tonight as this is a semi-official event. If people wish, they can pay €10 to reserve themselves a number for the year in order to save themselves time at the Bray event next week but this won't be the number they use on the night.
Ronan HickeyApr 7 2010, 4:08pmWell that seems to have cleared things up.. ;-)
Jim FitzharrisApr 7 2010, 4:13pmKevin,

Thanks for this clarification. Sorry about all the aborted messages - I do not know what happened there - took my eye off the keyboard!

I would make a few points:-

1. Its "semi-official" status is not obvious from the website where it appears along with all the other "official" events. If it has a different status, that should be made clear along with the one-off sign-in arrangements, payment system and number allocation.

2. I am a little concerned with the term "semi-official" - it strikes me as being akin to a little bit pregnant. Either this is an IMRA event or it is not. If the former, that is fine - we just need to know who is liable if an eager relay runner up-ends some old dear walking her pet poodle on Killiney Hill tonight and seeks to sue someone. If it is the latter, we need to ensure that all those running who are not IMRA 2010 members have signed the usual waiver/disclaimer forms.

3. If one-off numbers are assigned tonight, I am not sure it would be a good idea for new members to pay their 2010 fee of €10 in advance of Bray or any other race. If they do this, the laptop operator needs to assign them a "proper" 2010 number which is then marked on their completed 2010 membership form for later input into the IMRA database. Also, the physical number needs to be taken from the packet and filed with the other existing 2010 numbers in order to avoid confusion next week. This is a lot of extra work for hard-pressed volunteers.

Sorry to be such a pernickety pain-in-the-a**. It should not come as a total surprise that I ended up on the constitution sub-committee .......... ;-)

Cheers,

Jim.

niamh O CeallaighApr 7 2010, 4:57pmLink to Google Map is below. Nearest Dart is Dalkey - 15 min walk. Plenty of car parking.

Jim FitzharrisApr 7 2010, 10:26pmHi all,

Just to say a big thank you to Dermot and his team of able volunteers for a well-organised and thorughly enjoyable race tonight. I had never done this relay event before and it was a total blast: fast, short & furious - a very refreshing lung-buster. It deserves greater support, especially as the venue is very accessible by public transport. At the registration, I learnt that all my earlier concerns were totally unfounded so apologies to one and all for wittering on and reading the instructions back to front ................. ;-).

Cheers,

Jim.
Paul Brew CrewApr 7 2010, 11:46pmHi Lads,

Thanks for having us at the race, much appreciated. See you all at the Bray run next week.

Regards,

Paul.
John ShielsApr 8 2010, 8:31amHi All,
I've put up a few shots from last night.
Feel free to tag then but don't mark them as "hard" so others can get a chance to tag themselves
Thanks
John

Dermot MurphyApr 8 2010, 9:33amIndividual and team results just posted - sorry about the formatting.

A big thank you to all who turn up on the night - €812 was raised for GOAL which is much appreciated. Great individual runs by Emma, Rob and Bronagh gave them victory on the night.

Also well done to the auld campaigner - Paul Mahon - for having the fastest individual run on the night.

Many thanks to the brew crew for warming us up with a hot drink afterwards!

It was near dark by the time we had finished - starting a bit late and perhaps a week too early in the year - but a nice dry evening was a big help.

Many thanks to the helpers as well - David, Mary Collins, Mary Healy, Billy and of course course marker Hazel!

See you all at Bray!
Ronan HickeyApr 8 2010, 4:53pmI was just wondering why the Killiney Hill Relay (and the Wicklow Way Relay) don't get included in the total number of races people have run? I assume because of the relay nature of them and their more complicated results these races don't get picked up by the website code?

In fairness, it's not like it'll make the difference between me joining Club100 or not but I thought it'd be nice to be able to look back and see those races as well. :-)

Thanks again to Dermot and the team for the race last night, never done it before and had an absolute blast. Brilliant fun.

Ronan
