Gerry BradySep 20 2009, 11:54pmThe first ever Commonwealth mountain running championships were held in Keswick England over the weekend. Kenyan Kipkosgei Wilson Chemweno won the uphill only race by 39 secnds in a time of 50:42. Chemweno has a 62:40 half-marathon from 2008. Multiple World champion Jonathan Wyatt (NZL) was silver medallist in the up only race ahead of Kris Swanson (CAN). England won the team from New Zealand and Canada. Anna Frost (NZL) won the women’s uphill race from Katie Ingram (ENG) and Rebecca Robinson (ENG). England won the team from Scotland and New Zealand.

In the up and down race, Chemweno was again victorious this time ahead of Adam Grice (ENG) and Billy Burns (ENG). England, New Zealand and Canada took the team medals. Katie ingram took the women’s honours ahead of Sarah Tunstall (ENG) and Pamela Bundotich (KEN). England, New Zealand and Scotland took the team medals. Karen Alexander (NIR), who competed for Ireland in the recent World championships, had a great run to finish 10th.
