Maria O'RourkeJun 29 2009, 11:58pmHi Vivian, i did'nt mean to volunteer three times! sorry about that not really sure what i did wrong, now you know why i don't volunteer for laptop operator!! I'm a disaster! Maria
Edward BatemanJul 3 2009, 11:48amHi, since this is my first time volunteering I am unsure about the option to run, if possible i would love to run this race, if not I can change it back to non runner (I'm just unsure who decides this).
thanks.
Brendan LawlorJul 3 2009, 12:02pmEdward

When you volunteer, you can opt to run or not. If you opt to run, make sure you get to the race early to help with the initial set up of registration and again after the race help with taking in numbers and tidying up. Most race directors don't mind volunteers who opt to run, providing not all of the volunteers do this or else there is no one to record results etc, act as summit marshal etc.

Also if you are volunteering and want to run, don't leave your post for a 30 or 40 minute minute warm up - usually running volunteers stay in position until registration closes, about 15 minutes before race start, then do a quick warm up and join the race.

Once you've volunteered once or twice you'll see how it all works

Hope this helps
Edward BatemanJul 3 2009, 3:50pmThanks Brendan, thats crystal clear and i'm delighted that i'll be able to take part! ;O)
eddie doneganJul 10 2009, 6:57pmhi could someone invite me to join myimra so i can volunteer for this race please
Mick WorrellJul 11 2009, 4:01pmHi Vivian,
thanks for the invite to myimra, brilliant system.. Would like to volunteer as a helper at Kippure, and will not be running mickw
Eoin MahonJul 13 2009, 1:15pmHi Vivian, I just volunteered as a helper for this race. I'd like to run if possible but if not that's ok.

Vivian O'GormanJul 13 2009, 5:10pmHi Folks --

Need First Aid Person - Laptop Operator and Course Marker for Kippure.

Any people who volunteer and want to run can do so.

Gareth LittleJul 16 2009, 11:43amJust looking at the example in the Organisers Instructions section, is 44*1.4 not 61.6?

I only did 4 races and my % of winning was %120.5

44 * 1.205 = 53.02 - 6 = 47.02 - 8:30 = 7:42:58

Does this look correct?

Many Thanks! Gareth
Bruce ShenkerJul 16 2009, 12:38pmHey Vivian,
I have a program we used the past few years to generate the handicaps. Give me a shout at bruce.shenker at s1.com if you need it for this year.(Would that count for volunteering???) Or perhaps you have a new scheme.
Bruce
Vivian O'GormanJul 18 2009, 8:03pmI am still looking for a Laptop Operator and a First Aid Person for this race.
Con O'DonovanJul 20 2009, 10:00amCan I just confirm (cause I'm slow on Mondays) that a brand new runner would start at 08:30? And are they OK to turn up at, say, 08:00 to register? Thanks.

Also, is there a need for more 'unskilled' volunteers? Cheers.

Bruce ShenkerJul 20 2009, 1:08pmThere is a bug in the program that I never fixed so if you are listed with a middle name you may not have been given a start time. So if you did not get a start time and think you should send an email. Complaints about what your start time is can go to Vivian where they will land on deaf ears I assume.
Derek CharlesJul 20 2009, 2:24pmHi Rene, I am interested in running this race but have only run 3LL races this year, with an average finish of 148%. I have worked out my start time as 7.32. Is this correct? and can I run this race on Wednesday at this start time? Thanks
Brian CarolanJul 20 2009, 2:43pmIs there a route map and profile available for this race?

Also I seem to be starting behind some guys that finished ahead of me in the league. Not sure how that works out.
Mick HanneyJul 20 2009, 2:56pmI noticed that too e.g. a runner that finished after me in the league is after me starting the handicap. Could be a result of the % being driven by overall results and not just Leinster League races?
niamh o ceallaighJul 20 2009, 2:57pmThat seems to be the case Mick...

Shhhhhhhh.... say nothing!
Bruce ShenkerJul 20 2009, 2:58pmThe one flaw in the logic of this program is that we only get total percentage, we cannot seperate the league percentage from other races, so sometimes there are annomalies based on a longer weekend race that may skew the start time.
John ColemanJul 20 2009, 3:04pmMap(s) and or course profile would be extremely handy for those of us unfamiliar with Kippure.
John.
Taz AllMountainExperienceJul 20 2009, 3:11pmCan some one confirm that a newbie(who has not raced in any other race this year)can start at 7.50pm? Also do I have to pre-enter or can I just turn up?
Vivian O'GormanJul 20 2009, 10:21pmHi Folks,

Just a couple of things for Wednesday:

Anyone not on the Handicap List or a First Time Runner starts at 7.50pm

Race Registration will finish at 7.30pm

Please Car Pool and park your cars on one side of the road only.

Unless you are all Camels bring your own water!

Bring ALL your rubbish home with you.

Enjoy the race see you Wednesday.

Rene BorgJul 21 2009, 8:43amOn the question on the map, we don't currently have a map of Kippure in our database.

I have now been "enabled" with a the OSI software and plan to spend the following months working on creating all the missing maps but this won't be ready for tomorrow's race.

For this race, you'll be alright, however as long as you use the location map to get to the right starting point. It's a straightforward up and back route following the fire trail until it ends and then heading straight up through pretty bad terrain to the mast.

A quick solution would be to put a red marker to a copy of a the new Dublin Mountain map from EastWing, scan it and send it to me. I'll be happy to put it up if anyone has one until we can get a proper OSI one designed.
Declan CunninghamJul 21 2009, 4:11pmHello there,

I'm available as a volunteer for tomorrows race if you still need someone. I'd prefer to run if possible but I don't mind either way. Let me know if you still need people and what time you need us at the start.

Cheers,

Declan - 0866028639
Ercus StewartJul 21 2009, 4:26pmJAMES ALEXANDER wants a lift from leopardstown, exit 14 on M50. PLS CALL Billy on 087 7776666
Jason ReidJul 21 2009, 4:35pmYes, and i seem to be scheduled to start the race AFTER Eoin Keith.

How unfortunate for me!

Actually, I'm available to help out tomorrow as a non-running volunteer if extra hands are needed.

You'll reach me on - jason.anthony.reid@gmail.com

Marlon DaviesJul 21 2009, 7:00pmI am looking for a lift to race tomorrow. Anyone going from city center or any of Dart or Luas stops?

thanks!

John BarryJul 22 2009, 9:25amMarlon ,

I\'ll give you a lift out: Windy Arbour Luas station again.

/John
Brian CarolanJul 22 2009, 11:15amJust want to make sure I don\'t get lost en route to the race. If I guide my chauffeur in the wrong direction I\'ll be in big trouble.

I\'ll be coming from Old Bawn so do I just take Old Court Road (R113) until it hits Stocking Lane (R115) and then keep to this road and I can\'t miss it?

Marlon DaviesJul 22 2009, 11:25amHi John,

Would 6 be okay this time? I think we would have enough time to get there yes?

tks,
Marlon
John BarryJul 22 2009, 12:27pmMarlon,

6 is the finest.. Stay at the Bus Stop. I\'ll be heading up Churchtown Road.

Anybody else for a lift are welcome (Windy Arbour Luas at 6 p.m.)

/John
Melanie WalshJul 22 2009, 12:31pmHi Vivian,
I am down as a volunteer \'helper\' who wants to run. My start time is 7:12. What time should I arrive to help?
Tks, Melanie.

Declan CunninghamJul 22 2009, 1:41pmI\'ll be heading out to the Kippure race this evening about 5pm(I need to be out there about 6pm to help) and will be passing through Rathfarnham after coming through the city centre if anyone wants a lift. I have 2-3 seats available. 0866028639
Brian CarolanJul 22 2009, 2:22pmCan anyone confirm if I have this correct re getting to race this evening?

I\'ll be coming from Old Bawn so do I just take Old Court Road (R113) until it hits Stocking Lane (R115) and then keep to this road and I can\'t miss it?

Thanks
Pól Ó MurchúJul 22 2009, 3:21pmyeah that\'s about right Brian. There might be a better way to get to the R115 but I don\'t want to be held responsible for getting you lost. So once you hit the R115 just keep going and you can\'t miss it. That is assuming you know what you are looking for. Otherwise quite easy to miss :)
Brian CarolanJul 22 2009, 4:39pmWell don\'t know exactly what I\'m looking for but I assume it\'s in off the road just light Hellfire? I assume the cars that will be parking on \"the road\" will be parking on R115? If so I should find it.
Vivian O'GormanJul 23 2009, 12:35amHi folks -- do you know that this is the end of July? No? I did\'t think so and with tonights weather I don\'t blame you. That yellow disk was looking down on the city and the Sugarloaf but Kippure not on your life!

Lashed -- cleared -- lashed again -- mist on mountain what more can one ask for?!

So I would like to thank EVERYBODY that turned out tonight for your patience and good humour before and after the race.

In paticular a BIG THANK YOU to ALL the volunteers who helped me tonight particularly at registration and at the finish during the rain.I mention no names because I just might leave someone out.Well one name -- Gordon Douglas who manned the top.

The results will be up in a couple of days as I didn\'t have the laptop and if I have made any mistakes tonight I will rectify them in the results.

Thank you all again and well done to everybody.
Paul CullenJul 23 2009, 9:41amCan I echo Vivian\'s thank-you to the volunteers; I didn\'t know whether to envy them for the fact that they weren\'t running or feel sorry for them because they were doomed to freeze in the awful conditions.
John ShielsJul 23 2009, 9:48amfeel sorry for us freezing in the rain please!
John ShielsJul 23 2009, 10:09amfeel sorry for us freezing in the rain please!
Mick HanneyJul 23 2009, 5:33pmCan I echo the thanks for the organisers of last nights race. Vivian, John, Gordon, Jason & co for a job well done in dreadful conditions. It was one of those evenings when it was very tempting to stay tucked up in the car.

I\'ve never run on Kippure before and I thought the route was in a pretty poor state once you got off the track. Is this the case each year and if not should we be running on it? Just wondering...
Edward BatemanJul 27 2009, 11:25amAre the results for this race available yet? Or finishing times?
Thanks,
Ed
Aisling CoppingerJul 27 2009, 1:39pmBecause of the nature of the handicap race with different start times etc. it\'ll probably be later in the week when we get to finalise the results. We didn\'t use the lap top and the rain made it difficult to read the handwritten finish times accurately. So sincere apologies.
Aisling CorkeryAug 4 2009, 4:59pmThanks for getting the results up under such tough conditions!! You have me down as a DNF, so just letting you know I finished and from what I can see, my photo at the finish, shows me just in front of Phil Ward (number 546)....he most likely pasted me out before the finish line :o) My jacket was hiding my number, so apologies it was my own fault.

Thanks again
Aisling
David HealyAug 5 2009, 2:27pmMy result doesn\'t seem to be up for this race. I started at 7:46pm if i remember (the last starters were 7:45 and because i had only run one imra race this year before this race i went out after the field). My number is 384.
Sinéad RocheAug 7 2009, 9:08pmHi Aisling and David,

Results have now been updated.
