| Rob Tobin | Apr 29 2025, 10:50pm | Scarr hosts the third race in this year's Leinster League on Wednesday 14th May, just over a fortnight away from now. Entries will go on sale at 09:00 on Monday 12th May and we are limited to a total of 210 entries for this year's race, so set your alarms and reminders to avoid disappointment. I am very grateful to everyone who has already offered to volunteer. We could do with a few more volunteers signing up to ensure the success of this race. In particular we still need a Race Marker, Laptop Operator and Helpers, both non-running and running. To volunteer, simply navigate to the Event Details tab, scroll down to the Volunteer section and click on a role to sign up. Volunteering is a great way of getting to know some of your fellow mountain runners. Don't be shy now... This year's course is a version of the route we raced on in the Leinster League in 2023, the main difference this time being the omission of the short section of Gaffney's Lane from the start and finish: https://www.strava.com/routes/3352399000184036772 There will be an early start (7:00pm) and we will also have the Junior League event which will go off a few minutes after the main start (7:40pm). The mandatory kit for this event is Level B (Standard) and the required kit to be carried throughout the race will be confirmed on the day of the race. Please carpool wherever possible - once again go to the Event Details tab, scroll down to Carpool and add your Carpool offers (or requests) there. We will have prizegiving and raffle afterwards - details will be confirmed shortly. We've devised the Short Course to include all the best parts of the Long Course, taking in the main climb alongside the wall and the spectacular descent along Scarr's southern ridge. Approx. 4.9 kms with 250 metres of elevation gain. |

| Rob Tobin | Yesterday, 11:40am | Entries for Scarr are selling quickly this morning. Get yours while stocks last. A huge thanks to all the volunteers. I now have enough volunteers for this event so please look to fill roles at other upcoming races in the calendar. We have tweaked the Scarr route slightly from previous editions, extending the 2023 route with the addition of the lower section of the 2024 route, finishing along the Wicklow Way via Brusher Gap Hut. The Short Course incorporates all the best parts of the Long Course, including the lovely climb along the wall and most of the delightful descent along the ridge from Scarr. Afterwards we will head to Kavanaghs Vartry House in Roundwood for food, presentations and post-race raffle with a range of excellent spot prizes to be won, including sports massages (for any post-race DOMS!) at the Sports Physiotherapy & Athletic Rehab Clinic (SPARC). At the moment the forecast for Wednesday evening is looking good. Please be mindful of the mandatory kit requirements. All runners should ensure they bring full "B" kit with them on the night and the kit to be carried (or worn) during the race will be advised at reg. At the reg area we will also be taking donations of unused kit - if you have any running shoes, jackets, hats, gloves, etc. that aren't seeing the mountains as much as you'd hoped when you bought them, please bring those along with you and keep an eye out for the big blue IKEA bag at reg. Thanks to those who have already put up carpool offers. Even if you are driving some or most of the way to this event, please consider joining with another car nearby, e.g. parking at Kilmac, Roundwood, Laragh or elsewhere en route. It will make life that little bit easier for our parking marshalls who are trying to get everyone in quickly and safely. | Rob Tobin | Today, 12:28pm | Email update sent to Volunteers - please check and let me know if you didn't receive. The forecast for Scarr for tomorrow continues to look promising. The mandatory kit is Level "B" (Standard) and the exact kit to be worn/carried will be advised tomorrow before the race. Based on forecast as it stands it is recommended you also bring a drop of water for before and after the race. Afterwards we'll head to Kavanaghs pub in Roundwood where there will be some hot food, prizegiving and raffle.
