Peter O'Farrell | Mar 25 2025, 2:06pm | Stranahely Woods, the first round of the 2025 Leinster Championships, is approaching fast. Details are on the event page. Just to note if you are planning a recce please check the Glen of Imaal live firing closures website. There are quite a few days between now and the race day where the mountain access is restricted. The following are a list of the upcoming days where the range might be closed to recreational users. 18 Mar 2025. 20 Mar 2025. 24 - 28 Mar 2025. 31 Mar 2025. 01 - 04 Apr 2025. 07 - 11 Apr 2025. One more running or non running volunteer would also be a great help. Thanks Peter |
Andy Keeling | Mar 26 2025, 6:54am | I was down that way a couple of weeks ago on a live firing day (artillery and all) and the Stranahely side was still open. The camo man posted by the carpark said I was clear up to table track junction so I ran up. So might be worth checking on any given day. There's a public information office on the left just before Fentons, if anyone calls in there they might get more info. |
Peter O'Farrell | Mar 26 2025, 3:26pm | Thanks Andy. I rang the information office there and the live firing is finishing up today. Access available tomorrow and Friday. I'm going to head down tomorrow for a run around the course. Leaving Ballyboden at 9am if anyone would like to come. |
Mick Hanney | Mar 31 2025, 10:55am | Shop is open for the first LC event of the season. Roll up roll up. |
Peter O'Farrell | Apr 1 2025, 6:22pm | With a Coillte fire ban in place we unfortunately won't have a repeat of last years BBQ sausages but there will be.......sandwiches! We have a good few entries in and the more the merrier. The aforementioned fire ban is due to the forecast - which is blue skies, sun and steady winds. The navigation in this event is very straightforward on a clear day, it's a good one to dip your toe in navigation - if you have any hankering that way. On a clear day - as forecast - you can see all the way to the next checkpoint. And the Blessington Lakes. |
Monica Timmins | Apr 1 2025, 10:02pm | Was up there Saturday and that non distict pile of rocks was so hard to find in the really poor conditions, peat hags and bog |
Monica Timmins | Apr 1 2025, 10:03pm | Was up there Saturday and that non distict pile of rocks was so hard to find in the really poor conditions, peat hags and bog. Looking forward to sambo! |
Lesleyann Wylie | Apr 2 2025, 11:42am | Monica, I was up there Saturday too, and although I have run this route 4/5 times, once that mist came down, I was doing 180's in the bog. Hopefully it might dry out a bit before the weekend. |
Kathleen Curran | Apr 2 2025, 3:57pm | Lesleyann were the forest /small tracks /clearing areas at the bottom before the finish similar to last year? |
Peter O'Farrell | Apr 3 2025, 11:29am | Thanks to all the volunteers, we have enough volunteers for this race now. Please consider volunteering at upcoming Leinster Championship races. Or racing at Stranahely! The forecast is clear and cold. Please bring all level C kit with you and we will advise at registration which items are required on the day. Parking is at registration. Please carpool where feasible. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8wkNK7Z5CfPx6WEZ9 is the pin to get to the first Coillte barrier. @Kathleen - I went around the course last week for my first visit and it's all there. There seems to be some extra fireroads but all the trails marked on the EastWest map are there to follow. |
Mick Hanney | Apr 6 2025, 5:33pm | Big thanks to Peter and crew for a great event today. The sun shone and the route was super. I hadn't ran on these hills before and it was great fun (except the bit into the head wind!) in the opening kilometres. A great turn-out for the first Leinster Champs race of the year. Congrats to Ben and Becky and well done to all participants. Hope you'll be back for more of the LC races. |
Declan McInerney | Apr 6 2025, 6:32pm | Oh what a perfect day ... for this delightful turn around the hills above Stranahely. No live firing, just great running! Thanks to Peter and co. for orgainising a great route, food and Pepsi at the end. First time getting to know the many trees of Stranhely Woods on an individual basis due to decision to follow "interesting" route on last section, hope to see them all again soon! |
Peter McEvoy | Apr 6 2025, 6:41pm | +1 thanks to all the organisers and volunteers, great lap in super conditions |
Peter O'Farrell | Apr 6 2025, 8:03pm | Thanks to Jeff Swords patiently fixing my many typos. The results are up. Thanks to the volunteers Lillian, Bill, Ed and Pavel for amazing work keeping the show on the road. Well done to the winners and to all the runners who make the race. On a clear day you can see forever! And thanks to Mick, Liam, Clare and others who aren't credited on the volunteer list but gave their time. |
Mick Hanney | Apr 6 2025, 9:23pm | Report added, thankfully navigated to the right event to add it/ |
