Liam Vines | Jun 4 2025, 10:22pm | Not long till we head West for the 3rd round of the Irish Championship. I am going to RD this one, should be an easy enough gig all going well. Just want to get the big position filled asap “first Aid” sign up if you can and want to do it.. Thanks |
Liam Vines | Jun 16 2025, 1:47pm | Still need someone to step forward and do first aid.. Race is now on sale. |
Brian Farren | Jun 19 2025, 12:08pm | Hi. Haven't done any races this far west. Thinking about doing this event. Just wondering what the vegetation on the mountain is like, i.e. is it knee high, waist high etc. Also do many people comes across ticks on this one? Thanks |
Stuart Scott | Jun 19 2025, 2:36pm | Hi Brian, it's very runnable (on the way down). There are faint sheep trails to follow but you'll have a much better experience if you straight-line it. It's mostly long grass, lovely and bouncy with a soft landing. Once you get to the col and turn right to the summit it's rockier and very little vegetation. There are steep cliffs around the summit so it's vital to follow the correct course on this section. I've never noticed any ticks but I'm generally one of the lucky ones and it's the type of vegetation they like. As always, make sure to check yourself thoroughly after the race and you'll be grand. |
Liam Vines | Jun 19 2025, 3:24pm | Just getting this front and centre again We still have no First Aid officer for Saturday morning. I know there is at least 10 of you that are just hoping someone else will put their hand up, so you don’t have to. I can arrange a short straw competition if you want. Someone gives me some indication that we will have somebody to do first aid on the day. Send me a private message. Or if there is someone like me who is choosing not to run (Injured) and can come across to Connacht I will give you a free camping spot and a free burger. That’s the best I have to offer. |
Brian Farren | Jun 19 2025, 6:48pm | Thanks Stuart |
Mick Hanney | Jun 19 2025, 10:15pm | FA sorted. |
Liam Vines | Jun 19 2025, 10:28pm | Thanks to Mick the short straw contest due to take place in silverstrand car park on Saturday morning has now been cancelled… You can all thank him on Saturday morning.. Whether is looking decent for Saturday… |
Killian Brennan | Jun 20 2025, 6:17pm | Hi folks, I missed the deadline(these things happen, total brain freeze on my part). Is there any chance of a late entry? Happy to pay double. Thanks. Killian |
Liam Vines | Jun 20 2025, 8:58pm | Sorry Killian when it's closed it's closed.. |
Liam Vines | Jun 20 2025, 9:19pm | A few things for the morning 1 Get signed in say your name don't assume we know you 2 Collect new number if its your first race of the year (Know your number) 3 Kit check have it all Have your Level C kit with you. It will most likely be jacket, phone, map and compass but a final decision will be made in the morning. Remember the kit is the minimum kit needed if you think you are going to be out for two hours be responsible and take the extra bit of water and food with you maybe even an extra layer. Better to have it than need it If you are taking the early start please be there in plenty of time for the 12:30 start. Also make sure you let us know at registration know that you are taking the early start. Small enough crew looking after this one and its not like the old days with 20 running. 55 have signed up so if any of you that are running want to help out at reg feel free.. Drive safe everyone and see you in the morning. Liam |
Killian Brennan | Jun 20 2025, 10:55pm | Thanks Liam, Not a bother. Killian |
Aidan Cleary | Jun 20 2025, 11:39pm | I will help with reg |
Brian Mullins | Jun 21 2025, 6:21pm | Thanks to Liam and all the volunteers, special shout out to Mick for being first aider as without him this race would not have gone ahead. Well worth doing the first aid training whenever IMRA offer it as it’s not only a skill you might use in your daily life but it ensures we have a large pool to choose from. As for the race well Matt and Becky were in leagues of their own as the rest of us scrabbled around pretending to be runners. Still Mweelrea is up there with being the best descent in the country (Nephin probably shades it as that’s just madness), though I made a complete disaster of the key line this year. A great outing in wonderful terrain followed by a pint or two, what’s not to like. Onwards to Sligo tomorrow for a quick trip up Benbulben before a return to reality!! |
Micheal McSweeney | Jun 21 2025, 10:55pm | Back home in Glengarriff after 17 hours. Great day out. Interesting chats in the Nissan Pulsar. One of the best race routes in the Country. More interesting chats in the car. Bed now. Thanks Liam and everyone else who made today possible. Enjoy the BBQ and go out fast tomorrow. |
