Joseph Boyle | Jan 5 2025, 12:03pm | The race details and updated map have been loaded onto the website for the new route if anyone wishes to try it out in advance. I'd also like some feedback on areas that may be difficult to follow. A Junior route will be uploaded in the near future, thanks to everyone who's volunteered already, it's good to see the winner of the WWR race the last two years volunteering and giving back to the community. |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 17 2025, 8:51am | A quick update on the Howth Winter race, in particular for the volunteers to date. The race have been moved to the Saturday the 1st February to facilitate the use of public transport. The Sunday public transport services don't start early enough. |
Anne Lyons | Jan 22 2025, 6:20pm | Hi Jody do you need any more volunteers |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 23 2025, 10:44am | Anne, I'm still looking for a few additional volunteers. Thanks, Jody. |
Brendan Pollard | Jan 26 2025, 11:14pm | Folks, when will it be possible to purchase entry for this event? thanks, Brendan |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 27 2025, 8:38am | The portal should open at about 09:00 this morning |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 27 2025, 12:44pm | We've plenty of volunteers for this race now, please look to the next race in Trooperstown, if you wish to volunteer. |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 27 2025, 1:05pm | Hi Everyone, The following are a couple of updates in relation to the race next weekend. The race starts at 10:30 and registration will close at 10:15. Registration will take place outside the Summit Inn, the exact location will be decided based on the weather that morning. Toilets will not be available at the Summit Inn, there are public toilets available in the Summit carpark where the race begins and finishes. We’ve had to tweak the route slightly due to works that have recently started on a Heather Regeneration project. Please click on the updated map link on the IMRA race page. There are two main carparks shown on the map with up to 140 spots available, however these are on a first come first served basis. There is also plenty of free spaces available in the harbour if you wish to carpool. Please do not park illegally in the vicinity or in the Summit Inn carpark. I’ve checked the Irish Rail website and there is no works planned for this weekend on the Dart line, please double check before you decide you might use it. The H3 and 6 Dublin Buses outside will take you up to the summit in about 5/6 minutes. There is a coffee van in the Summit carpark most weekends, I’ve checked with the and they said they will be there, so please don’t park in the concession spot in the carpark if you’re there early. Here’s hoping for better weather next Saturday and hopefully everyone will enjoy the new route. |
Peter Doyle | Jan 27 2025, 11:44pm | Hi Joseph Haven't been paying much attention to the forum recently so just noticed the switch of day from Sunday to Saturday Unfortunately that means I can't volunteer after all as have a clash Saturday morning. I've taken my name of the volunteer roster. Sorry |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 28 2025, 8:36am | Peter, Thanks for letting me know, sorry you can't make it. |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 30 2025, 7:35am | I've sent out a mail to all volunteers for the race on Saturday. There seems to be a problem with the WhatApp link I sent. I'll try and get it sorted today. If you didn't get a mail could you check your Spam folder and/or the email address you have listed on the IMRA site. |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 30 2025, 6:39pm | Less than 24 hours left to register for Howth, no extensions to the time. |
Barbara Anne Murphy | Jan 31 2025, 12:55pm | Hi there, I’m new to IMRA and registered for tomorrow’s race but had some questions. I want to opt for the shorter distance - is this allowed considering I’m hardly a Junior! Do I indicate this at check-in? Do both distances start at same time? Thank you a looking forward to it, kind of! Barbara |
Kevin O'Riordan | Jan 31 2025, 1:22pm | Hey Barbara, anyone is welcome to do the short course. (Though only juniors get prizes for the short course). Just let the laptop operator know at check-in. Both start at roughly the same time although there's often a 5 minute gap between long course starting and short course starting. |
Barbara Anne Murphy | Jan 31 2025, 1:43pm | Cheers Kevin, I’m afraid I’ll be too slow for Long race.. is there a cut off time? |
Joseph Boyle | Jan 31 2025, 6:16pm | All, Online entries have now closed and we've a fantastic number for tomorrow, look forward to seeing everyone at the Summit in the morning, don't be afraid to ask questions and say hello. On the race details it says that registration is in the carpark, however we're moving it to the Summit Inn just down the road. Barbara, Kevin answered your first question, in relation to the second, there is no cut-off and I hope you signed on. Apologies I didn't get to it earlier, there are soft sections on the course, so for new runner's I'd suggest shoes with a bit of grip if you have them. It'll be no problem without them but it may be slower. Finally just a note about the kit requirement tomorrow, it'll be the recommended minimum of a jacket, hat/buff and gloves. You don't have to wear them but you must carry them for the race. |
Karen Ngo | Jan 31 2025, 6:29pm | Hi Joseph, I am so so sorry - we had been trying to sign up for the Howth race literally just before the deadline closed (I had the page open and everything!), but our internet cut out and then reset itself just a few minutes after the deadline to sign up had closed. Is it possible to sign up? I am so sorry! Thanks, Karen |
Richard Nunan | Feb 1 2025, 1:43pm | Thanks to Joseph, Alice, Keith and all the volunteers out there today. Fantastic route with a killer climb to take us home. Tough finish after a speedy start. |
Conor O'Farrell | Feb 1 2025, 2:13pm | Thanks Joe and crew. Really enjoyed that. That’s some tough finish you tacked into the end. See you all at Trooperstown next week. |
Richard Fox | Feb 1 2025, 2:22pm | Thanks Jody and brilliant volunteers for an absolutely fantastic run this morning. An amazingly picturesque course very well put together and marked and marshalled. Fab visit to a wonderful spot. Thanks so much. Cheers foxy |
Gill McLoughlin | Feb 1 2025, 2:51pm | Absolutely loved this route! Thanks Jody & team of volunteers for a great morning's run. |

Alan Boon | Feb 1 2025, 5:53pm | First IMRA race today , great course - mud, hills, bramble, sunshine, wind...brilliant support from volunteers and runners , well done and thank you to all involved....I might even come back |
Sean Forsyth | Feb 2 2025, 8:22am | Thanks Jody and crew, an absolutely brilliant course. Really enjoyed it. |
Keelin Holmes | Feb 2 2025, 11:08am | Thank you to all Volunteers and crew for a great event yesterday! Really enjoyed the morning and looking forward to next ! |
Jeff Swords | Feb 2 2025, 11:12am | Hi, Howth results published. Unfortunately there was a number of runners who didn't run the course on the day. The loop which began with the scramble up the hill had been missed completely at the northernmost part of the course and a shorter and easier route was taken onto the cliff path giving a not insignificant advantage. If you're marked as DNF and did run the race route email imraresults at gmail dot com and we'll sort it. |
Andrew Hanney | Feb 2 2025, 11:21am | Jody and co, well done on putting on a great course which had a bit of everything. That climb to the finish…. :) |
Mick Hanney | Feb 2 2025, 12:42pm | Well done Jody and crew for a great event. I've been to races many a time with IMRA but these trails were a first for me and it was a nice novelty to be running overlooking the sea running towards the Bailey Lighthouse. The run back up from the Lighthouse not so much fun Great running Con to come thru the field to get the win. |
Joseph Boyle | Feb 2 2025, 3:30pm | A big thank you to all the volunteers for the race, it was a great team effort and again I'm amazed with how professional and yet friendly everyone is on the day. I'd just like to name everyone in no particular order for making my day so easy. Anne, Alice, Enda, Brian, Becky, Fergus, Caroline, Ronan, Gareth, Gavin, Dan, Keith, Rebecca, Alistair,, Connie, Fin, Niall and Phil. Thanks again and I look forward to working with you all on future races. |
Joseph Boyle | Feb 2 2025, 4:03pm | A bit of housekeeping to close off Howth for this year. 1. Someone left a spot prize in the Summit Inn. It's in the IMRA van, you can collect it at a future race. 2. Thanks to everyone who make to effort to come out and take part in the race, we had a total of 216 participants and to my knowledge that's the largest crowd we've ever had for a Howth Winter League race. I saw quite few club shirts on display yesterday, from clubs that aren't on Howth's doorstep, to name a few, Kilcoole, Lakeshore Striders, UCD, Dundrum and Rathfarnham. 3. We also had a few runners out there that I know travelled a good distance from South Wicklow and North Wexford, your participation is much appreciated. 4. Thanks to Raheny Shamrocks for their support in sending our a strong contingent of juniors. We had 20 juniors in total, which is great to see. 5. Just to put out a plea to anyone that may've found a set of car keys in the carpark and handed them in somewhere. 6. I did a final sweep of the course this morning and thanks again to all the marshals as the course was completely clear. 7. Thanks to Lillian and having the IMRA van on site, it makes being RD, so much easier when you don't have to have your car full of kit on the day. 8. Lastly, as it was a new course and a few curve balls were thrown at us in the last week, with the Heather Regeneration project, it has shown a couple of areas where we can improve for next year. I look forward to seeing you all then. |
Hazel Thompson | Feb 2 2025, 4:45pm | Thanks for a great race yesterday. If the spot prize that was left behind was a bottle of white wine, then it is probably mine. Also, I went for a walk over to the lighthouse with Laurel afterwards and we found an IMRA sign, which I collected. I have it in my car and will bring it next week. |
Alice Clancy | Feb 3 2025, 7:50pm | Summit photos for Howth are uploaded! Well done all, it was a tricky bit of (mostly) undignified scrambling down from the marshall point….! If anyone would like to download a high res version of their photo, they’re available here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/zs5gzp0o5y5ptn097bxd0/ACwERWHemHX0s1i4x4QZR2s?rlkey=epsxiapl9b0lgbfq5tw40nika&st=1ycgw142&dl=0 |
