Mike JordanJul 1 2024, 4:31pmWe've got a new Leinster League race at Seahan in south west Dublin in 2 weeks time. The route is good and the (weather-dependant) views are excellent. This is a replacement race for the originally posted Ticknock LL race.

We're very low on volunteers at the moment. Please sign up on the race page if available. Any help appreciated.
Mike JordanJul 8 2024, 11:49amThanks to all who have volunteered for the Seahan race next week. A few more helpers would be great.

Ahernes pub in Oldbawn will host the prizegiving and should be a great carpooling location (cars parked at owner's risk) with a big carpark, beside the bus stop for several bus routes (S6, S8, 65b, 49), and adjacent to the Dodder Greenway cycle route.

Long course route (9.8k, 510m ascent): https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2677975?units=km
Junior/Short course route (3.9k, 210m asecnt): https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2678014?units=km

Course description:
Start will be on the west side of the road approx 1.5k up the road from the parking field. Run 400m up the fireroad, then 400m along the firebreak across to the road. Run 100m up the grass verge then cross the road (marshal) to start the climb up Seahan. This section is mainly to spread out the field as the track narrows quickly on the east side of the road. Up the track and through the gate to the top of the forestry (marshal), then follow the track north around the forest boundary. Approx 2.5k into route there is a small trail that leads to the summit of Seahan (marshal at trig pillar and junior/short course turn). The fun starts now with a 2.5k descent of the north ridge of Seahan. You'll encounter a water feature after a kilometre - best to just go through it than try and keep those feet dry :) After the long downhill take a right turn (about 50m before you reach the fence corner) and follow the contouring trail for a kilometre over to the farmer's track. The payback for that long descent begins now with about 300m of climb in less than 2.5k. Keep climbing until the track enters the bogworks and look out for flags guiding you along a trail to the saddle between Corrig and Seahan. From here follow the back to the summit of Seahan (marshal again) before a helter skelter last descent (remembering to go back in through the gate!) to the finish at the barrier by the road.

The short course follows the main course to the summit before descending directly to the finish. Should be a good race for junior mountain runners as it takes in a summit and has a testing technical descent to finish.
Alan AylingJul 8 2024, 1:22pmLooks like an epic route Mike! Great to get the Leinster League back to Seahan after a long permit-induced hiatus.

"Run 100m up the grass verge then cross the road" sounds like it has Rule 7 written all over it ;-)
Mikey FryJul 8 2024, 7:42pmHey Mike is it ok to pick up race gear for glen of the downs after race?
Mike JordanJul 8 2024, 8:50pm@Mikey if the kit doesn't need to go to Greg for the Glendalough races, then you should be able to take it on the night
Mike JordanJul 8 2024, 8:59pm@Alan yes it's great to get a race back on Seahan and another race on the west side of the Dublin Wicklow Mountains. Many thanks to Martin, Liam and the committee for making it happen.
Greg ByrneJul 8 2024, 10:07pmSuch subterfuge... having consulted with the gods it has been decided that Mikey's punishment shall be two fold.

1. At a random point in the future he shall be misdirected by a marshal and run an extra 2k (of fire road)

2. He shall have to wait until I get my share of the RD kit before he can pick it up the dregs.
Mikey FryJul 8 2024, 11:32pmI’ll send you my address so:))
Martin BagnallJul 10 2024, 1:32pmThanks very much to those who have volunteered. There's enough helpers now, I do still need a laptop operator though (can be one of the existing volunteers if they would like to take it on).

I'll contact volunteers later today with duties.

The event page is updated with the race details, location, maps etc.. If you are running please familiarise yourself with the information there.

Any questions, please shout!
Martin BagnallJul 12 2024, 4:59pmJust a couple of updates...

Still need a laptop operator for this race - please volunteer if you can do that role.

There is a limit of 220 runners for this event (despite what the race info page says!). Entries will open at 9am on Monday.

Alice Clancy and Andy Keeling will be at race registration on the evening collecting kit donations for Trail Criu. Please support this initiative if you can to help make mountain and trail running more inclusive for all.
Dave DochertyJul 12 2024, 7:47pmCan anyone recommend a safe spot to lock up a bike near the pub for a bit of carpooling?
Barry HoganJul 15 2024, 9:16amHi, I'm looking for a lift from Greystones, Wicklow, to this race, if there is anyone driving from this area?
Thanks, Barry
Dave DochertyJul 15 2024, 9:51amBarry. There is usually a few runners from that neck of the woods at the races. You could use the carpool for lift requests also. See the bottom of the event page.
Dillon RyanJul 15 2024, 10:01amDave - we can pick you up at ahearnes if you need as we are nearby and coming from firhouse direction
Barry HoganJul 15 2024, 10:47am@dave, thank you for the suggestion. I have now put up a carpool request.
Dave DochertyJul 15 2024, 10:59am@Barry. FYI. If you go to the carpool tab and edit, you can change the number of seats to 1. That way if someone clicks book your details will be emailed to them.
Mark McAddenJul 15 2024, 2:00pmHi Mike
I'm going to have drop out of volunteering for this one
due to unforeseen work commitments. Sorry for the late notice
Mike JordanJul 15 2024, 3:39pmThanks for letting us know Mark, you're absolved :)
Mike JordanJul 15 2024, 3:44pmJust a reminder, as per the race page, please do not park at the start or finish areas. What limited space there is we need for volunteers and access. Thank you.
Alice ClancyJul 16 2024, 1:18pmHi All, just a reminder that we’ll be collecting running kit donations for Trail Criú tomorrow at Seahan registration. Particularly looking for trail running shoes of all shapes, sizes and grip!!! Any kit donated will be very much appreciated and put to good use. Thanks to those who donated last week!!!
Dave DochertyJul 17 2024, 8:45am@Dillion Ryan. Thanks for the lift offer. if you hit book on my lift request in the car pool, our deets will be exchanged. Or you can get me on 0h 8 seven. 8 two nine, eighth tree, 2 nine. If i don't hear from you, I'll be loitering around Ahearns from about 1800. Thanks Dave
Eimear DeeganJul 17 2024, 10:21amAny chance of knowing mandatory kit before signing in so we can leave what is not needed in the car? Thanks
Martin BagnallJul 17 2024, 12:28pmConditions are good so it'll just be the usual requirement of carrying a jacket with you.
Martin BagnallJul 17 2024, 12:43pmJust a reminder that it's about 1.8K from race registration to the start line so please factor in plenty of time to get there. It's a nice warm up and a gentle downhill cooldown afterwards!
Reuben CapocciJul 17 2024, 2:38pmDoes anyone have pin for carpark for tonight, bringing my son for his first imra race so Newby and bit of time pressure to get him there so want to make sure I know exactly where to go to get him registered on time. Thanks
Mike JordanJul 17 2024, 2:57pmHi Reuben.
There is a google maps link under the parking section in the event page. I've copied it here, hopefully it works: https://www.google.ie/maps/search/53.198661,+-6.408669?coh=219815&entry=tts&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDcwMS4wKgBIAVAD
I hope you and your son enjoy the race!

Jean O'NeillJul 17 2024, 5:30pmThe map suggested i look up for where to go does not help me. Where is that?Maybe I'll meet someone at Ahearns. Thanks
Alan KennedyJul 17 2024, 10:56pmThanks Martin for another great LL event. Super route Mike and loved the water feature but that was some slog for the second summit climb. Great downhill finish though. Great work on the laptop Peter and results up already. As always volunteers were great and nice to see some new faces at the checkin.
Miriam MaherJul 17 2024, 11:19pmThanks so much Martin and your excellent crew for a fantastic evening on the hills. A while since I’ve been able to get to one of the races. What a brilliant reminder of all that is good about the mid week re set of the mid week races.
Mick HanneyJul 18 2024, 9:46amSuch a great race last night. Kudos to Martin and team. Thanks to whoever designed that course, it had a bit of everything, including the evil touch of having us visit the summit twice.
Gerry McGuinnessJul 18 2024, 9:57amThanks to Martin and team for putting on such a great evening in the mountains.
Brendan LawlorJul 18 2024, 9:57amThanks Martin and team for a great race last night. It’s a while since we were over that way for a mid week race. Thanks to whoever sorted the parking field that made it all possible
Joan RyanJul 18 2024, 10:12amThanks Martin and all the volunteers for a great night on the hills.

Mikey you never disappoint with the race marking! Although that second climb was endless!
Elva DonnellyJul 18 2024, 10:58amSuper route last night and great crew out on the course. Second summit...packed a punch but followed by a super speedy downhill home. Thanks to the cattle and sheep for keeping an eye on the cars!
Alice ClancyJul 18 2024, 11:49amThank you to Martin and brilliant volunteer team for that beautiful, gloriously boggy run last night! Lovely to be back in the West Dublin Peaks …some of the best descents around as the photographs show!!.

Also a huge thank you for the really generous Kit donations for Trail Criú at Seahan and Carrick…saw some really great trail shoes going into the bag last night….. It is very very much appreciated! We’ll be collecting kit again at Church Mountain and Trooperstown.

PS Hope the two people who were injured recover quickly!
Eimear DeeganJul 18 2024, 12:39pmThanks Martin & team, loved that course, hopefully it becomes a regular LL fixture.
Conor NolanJul 18 2024, 1:03pmThat was a great event last night. Thanks to RD Martin and the rest of the team. Special thanks to Liam and Mike for the behind-the-scenes work in getting the course together.
Martin BagnallJul 18 2024, 1:23pmA new race is always challenging but I was fortunate to have a great team of volunteers last night who put in a tremendous shift to make this event happen. Thanks for taking on the various roles, change of roles and unexpected roles with enthusiasm and can-do attitude.

Well done to first time volunteers Annroai, Daire, Oluwafemi.

A special thanks to Henny, Alice, Ger & Luke who aren't even listed as volunteers for the race for stepping up and helping, going above and beyond and much appreciated.

Thank you to 3 year old Roisin for marshalling and encouraging and cheering on all the finishers!

A huge shout out to Mike for devising, marking and marshalling a tough, challenging route. It's great to have a race where everyone has the opportunity to get to the summit, whether you are in the main field, junior or short course.

Congratulations to Áine and Enda on their wins and to the Junior winners, Layla and Reuben.

Best wishes and a speedy recovery to those who picked up injuries, hope to see you back out on the hills soon.
James HigginsJul 18 2024, 2:17pmWell done to Martin and all the crew for a great race last night. Fantastic course designed by Mike and one to keep.

Special thanks to Alice who patched me up at the end. Some fractured ribs but will be back in a few weeks! Much appreciated Alice. Best of luck to Paul on a quick recovery. His injuries were far worse than mine.

Thanks also to Warren and Greg who escorted me down and well-deserved praise to Luke for helping us injured parties.
Alistair HodgettJul 18 2024, 2:17pmReally echo previous comments re: this race, hope to see it as a regular on the calendar. Thank you to the many volunteers who made it possible to race around this course.
Sean ForsythJul 18 2024, 4:17pmThanks Martin and crew, that was an excellent race, junior course was great, had it all.

Thanks to Alan for the first aid, Éabha was well impressed with your skills and is feeling much better today, raring to go for next week. Also thanks to Maike for the jellies, they worked a treat
David PowerJul 19 2024, 2:12pmWho knows what Seahan means?
-
I love looking up www.logainm.ie after scaling a mountain peak - dabbling in a bit of etymology. The Irish language is part of the landscape as well as the spoken word. The English translation usually hides a more meaningful name.

Now, who felt like sitting down at the top last Wednesday?

Joan RyanJul 20 2024, 11:11amFor Alice Clancey ....

Is it just trail shoes your collecting or can they be road running shoes either?

I have a brand new pair that were too small but no point bringing them along if it's only trail shoes

Thanks
Joan
Andy KeelingJul 22 2024, 6:01pmHey Joan, I think Alice is away. Yes, we will accept any running/outdoor gear that you aren't using. All equipment will go to a good home. We'll be collectiong at all the remaining wednesday night races.
Many thanks
Andy
