Mick HanneyMar 19 2024, 7:02pmPutting a shout out in advance for an RD for this race, so we can have a full roster of RDs for the Leinster Champs.

Race may not be as named in the calendar. Subject to permit etc. Details TBC soon with a bit of luck.
Liam VinesMay 30 2024, 8:47pmRace page is updated with all the spots that have to be hit.
Race will open for sale on Sunday morning

The first 4KM until you reach Tabletrack Junction everyone will be taking the same route. This was the agreed route with the Defence Forces. Then you can take whatever way you like. Probably won't be much route variation until Sugarloaf summit. Could be an interesting last 3K tho...
Angus TynerMay 30 2024, 9:31pmIn route description and organisers instructions, the GR for Table Mountain 091 973 is incorrect.
Liam VinesMay 30 2024, 10:57pmThanks Angus.
Should be sorted. Right numbers wrong order.....
liam kennyMay 31 2024, 11:31pmAnyone heading out Sunday for recce
Brian McGuckinJun 1 2024, 4:19pmLooking for volunteers for this race,
race will start at 11am!
no early start !
I have been told there will be road closures around Drumgoff on the day so be aware if you are coming from that direction.
Lesleyann WylieJun 5 2024, 12:48pmI just arrived for a recce. Showed the route to some walkers and they said that table track over to stony top and back to pollaghadoos is out of bounds as they are shooting there today. I can hear the gunfire. They have given me a safer route but it means only possible to recce half the route. Is this right??? Just in case someone has some better info.
Lesleyann WylieJun 5 2024, 1:15pmSometimes, I think I am just missing a few brain cells when it comes to IMRA and the assumption that people just 'know'. I keep getting caught out. Anyway, can't recce most of this route on weekdays because nearly all of route is in the firing range, even the main first 4km so can't even go off to the left to recce the last 3km. To get here today, I organised someone to collect my kids from school, someone else to bring my youngest to a match from Kilmacanogue over to Hollywood, which was to time nicely with my recce so I could bring the kids back to kilmac. A lot of organisation.

For anyone else planning on coming out to recce over the next few days I will save you some time and here is the rangers number. The walkers here knew it off by heart. And there is a rangers office you can call into, they are really friendly. 045 404653
Mike JordanJun 5 2024, 1:18pmhttps://www.military.ie/en/public-information/glen-of-imaal-walking-route-closures/

The walkers route is closed 4-6th June unfortunately. If flags and signage for firing are up do not enter the military range.
Liam VinesJun 5 2024, 2:48pmI am sorry that you had a wasted trip Lesleyann. Or was it did you pick a route for yourself down through the woods? This is where the real action will start.
This was definitely an oversight on my part not to have the link on the race page that Mike has put up now. This is a completely new race just never joined the dots to think of people doing reccis.
Lesleyann WylieJun 5 2024, 4:05pmIf you take a ruler and follow a straight parallel line north from Tim's crossroads to lobawn path, everything to the right of that is out of bounds, including the woods and all of the gravel road from the barrier. This included landa thatbarwnt marked as defense on the map but thw ranger said the vehicles were all set up there and the woods were shooting on her map as included in the zone.
Lesleyann WylieJun 5 2024, 4:12pmIf you take a ruler and follow a straight parallel line north from Tim's crossroads to lobawn path, everything to the right of that is out of bounds, including the woods and all of the gravel road from the barrier. This included lands that aren'tt marked as defense on the east west map but the ranger said the vehicles were all set up there in the woods and they were shooting there, and on the rangers map on her wall you could clearly see that some parts of the woods to the left of the path marked in pink on east west is in the shooting zone. Anyway lesson learned, call ahead. I could have gone out of the carpark and gone right but one wrong turn and you end up back in the zone and it just want worth the worry.
Lesleyann WylieJun 7 2024, 12:42pmRecce done but I lost my leki poles somewhere after lobawn. If anyone is out and sees them. I am having the worst luck this week. My car was broken into yesterday in crone woods
Brian KitsonJun 7 2024, 3:29pmSorry to hear that. Hoping to head out for a recce this evening and will keep an eye out for your poles.
Lesleyann WylieJun 7 2024, 4:57pmThanks Brian, appreciate that.
Gavan DohertyJun 7 2024, 5:13pmFor anyone thinking of a straighter route from Sugarloaf to the finish you can see a more detailed map on:
https://www.orienteering.ie/gadget/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?act=map&id=682

More up to date (but less extensive) version on:
https://www.orienteering.ie/gadget/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi?act=map&id=906

Might be a shortcut in there somewhere for the brave/foolish!?
Stuart ScottJun 7 2024, 6:03pmAh Gavan, I was relying on that secret sneaky shortcut to make up for my slow time around the rest of the course!
Brian FureyJun 7 2024, 6:52pmI got one person who booked car pool with me. If there is a second person can you email me at brianmfurey@gmail.com as I only got one email booking.
Liam VinesJun 9 2024, 5:30pmSmallish field even smaller amount of volunteers but we still had a cracker of a race. Great to run on new hills and trails..
Becky, Enda and Niall took up my challenge of running both races of the weekend didn’t stop Becky and Enda I think me and Niall might have been questioning our decision at times..
Great weekend thanks to all the Volunteers and the runners..
Lesleyann WylieJun 9 2024, 5:44pmFantastic race, loved the course and the location. Thanks for a brilliant morning on the hills. Back there tomorrow to find my poles.
Andy KeelingJun 9 2024, 6:16pmVery good race today. Thanks to Brian and crew for running the show. Also special thanks to Liam who managed to pull two brand new races out of his hat for this weekend to replace ones that needed to be cancelled. Not a small task. Both seem to have gone down very well.
Brian KitsonJun 9 2024, 6:24pmApart from the severe lack of finish line sangwiches :) it was a fantastic day out. Class route and race. It was lovely to run new hills and check out the other side of the track after all those years running the Round and Art O’Neill. Thanks Brian, Peter, Lillian and Liam.
Pearse BroganJun 9 2024, 6:29pmThanks to all the crew today again, glad the weather stayed away until we were read up. Sangwiches and craic was plentiful afterwards. Good course that as well
Gerry McGuinnessJun 9 2024, 10:12pmThanks to Brian and crew for looking after me . A few wrong turns on the way down follow by another few on the course.
Gavan DohertyJun 9 2024, 10:36pmThanks Brian, Liam & others - that was great fun!

I think I've made a Strava flyby. Only real variations in the forest from Sugarloaf to home:
