Colin McShane | Jan 25 2024, 6:19pm | Can someone let me know when entry for this opens and how we apply for a team entry. Have a team ready but not sure how and when we can apply for entry. Thank you |
Jason Kehoe | Jan 27 2024, 10:18pm | Hi Colin, It's usually around April that registration opens. We have yet to update this years event page but you can have a look at last years event details and forum posts which shoukd give you a feel of the whole process. Thanks, Jason - Race Director |
Jason Kehoe | Jan 31 2024, 9:26pm | Mark your calendars – Registration opens on Friday 22nd March 2024! Spots go fast, usually within an hour. This date gives eight Saturdays to get your recces done. A leg a week! Some logistical changes are required this year around traffic following the race but details will be provided when they are finalised and will be communicated to captains to pass on directly to their teams. We may also need to reduce the number of teams to the original cap of 30 as opposed to 36 last year. Again this is still to be finalised. Looking forward to another great event. Jason |
noel boland | Mar 11 2024, 11:25am | Just wondering what is considered as vet ??? |
Kevin O'Riordan | Mar 11 2024, 11:46am | F40/M40 or higher. |
noel boland | Mar 11 2024, 1:16pm | Thank you |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 21 2024, 6:28pm | Attention, attention! Wicklow way relay entries open tomorrow Friday 22nd March at 2:00pm. We expect the 30 places to sell out in sub 5mins or so. This gives teams 8 weeks to get the eight legs recced. House Keeping: Please do not buy multiple entries for your team "by accident" and then ask for a refund / name change etc. You should only buy an entry if you already have your potential team in place and can provide their provisional details within the following 72 hours. Best of luck to all! Jason |
Darren Murphy | Mar 21 2024, 8:23pm | Jason Has this year's race been capped to 30 teams? |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 21 2024, 8:48pm | @Colin - Yes that is correct. We have additional traffic on the route this year and there will be Gardai and event marshals from Lough Tay to Glendalough so we want to keep numbers manageable. There will be diversions for crews and supporters following the race route to avoid these areas. |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 22 2024, 2:10pm | Event sold out! 7 mins, think that's a new record. Captains please fill out your teams provisional details within 72 hours on the link on the event page. Keep a bookmark of the email you are sent as you need to use this to edit your team. Thanks! Jason |
Alice Clancy | Mar 22 2024, 2:19pm | Janey that was quick!! I wonder will we see re-sales on ticketmaster in the next hour?! Thanks for the reminder yesterday Jason….I would have had a lot of explaining to 7 disappointed people without it! |
Darren Murphy | Mar 22 2024, 2:20pm | That was Intense, know teams who didn't get in. That's a pity |
Niall Lynch | Mar 22 2024, 2:21pm | Hi Jason, I just wanted to check my purchase went through correctly. I got confirmation email that payment was made. But when I go into Online Entries the WWR is still showing up in my basket. Thanks Niall |
Derek Hay | Mar 22 2024, 2:28pm | Hi Jason, Same here, I have a record of the purchase in my history but its also showing in my basket, I haven't received an email to bookmark either. Thanks for the help. |
Mairead Connolly | Mar 22 2024, 2:29pm | Hi I got a payment failure but thought I had got through, how do I update this ? Thanks |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 22 2024, 2:42pm | I see entries for Niall and Derek. I can see no details there under your name Mairead. |
Kieran Duane | Mar 22 2024, 2:47pm | Hi Jason, Can you check for me too. I have a payment id and the imra site says I am entered but I haven't received any emails following payment or entry form submission. Thanks, Kieran |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 22 2024, 3:21pm | Yes Kieran, I see your entry there. |
Jenni Miley | Mar 22 2024, 3:27pm | Hi Jason, Can you please double-check that my entry went through ok as well? Thanks Jenni |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 22 2024, 4:33pm | Yes Jenni, I see you there. If you got a confirmation and see it in your 'purchase history' then you got in. If anyone needs a refund / name change please let me know within 72 hours. Thanks, Jason |
Peter Doyle | Mar 22 2024, 9:22pm | Hi Jason, sorry to bug you with another query regarding entry in similar vein to those above but with slightly different variation. I managed to get one of the golden tickets earlier and entry shows in my payments history and I submitted first draft of the team list entry form for team Rush Running. However still no sign of any emails to confirm purchase or that form was submitted. As per previous answers I assume all is fine but just want to be sure to be sure that all is fine |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 23 2024, 9:03pm | Hi Peter, I see your IMRA entry as well as your provisional entry Jot form. Confirmation probably was filtered to spam. You will need that Jot form email to do edits so have a good look. Thanks, Jason |
Peter Doyle | Mar 24 2024, 2:05pm | Thanks Jason 50% success rate as tracked down the payment confirmation email but no sign anywhere of the Jotform email. I'll send you a separate email with details rather than clogging up the forum with what seems to be a tech support issue :-). Plenty of time between now and race say to track down the form |
Liam Bowe | Mar 24 2024, 5:09pm | Jason, same as Peter here, I have confirmation of payment email but no auto response from Jotform as per previous years. Tried to resend it but was blocked, so know entry went through. |
Pat Breen | Mar 24 2024, 6:00pm | Hi Jason, have an entry for the relay also but didn't receive the email. Is it possible to resend this please. Not in the spam folder unfortunately. Thanks very much Pat |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 25 2024, 8:12am | We're looking into triggering another email for those affected. If you have your initial team registered but didn't receive the confirmation / edit email you can check yourself by trying to fill out the form with the same email address and it should prevent you from doing so. We likely have your teams details in that case. We will trigger emails or some other workaround for those of you who've messaged here and by email. Thanks, Jason |
Annraoi Campbell | Mar 25 2024, 9:32am | Hi Jason, I have received the payment confirmation but no access to the jot form. I used the link available on the event description but I don’t have a live link to access/change details going forward. I hope the information has gone through on your end. Thanks Annraoi |
Rene Borg | Mar 25 2024, 9:47am | On the Jotform: we had added encryption to this year's form for added security on the data but unfortunately, we were not awarwe that encryption knocks out the autoresponder functionality. We have removed the encryption (the data is still password protected - only Jason and I have access) and as a further mitigation, we'll delete the PII as soon as it is no longer needed. We have confirmation of forms received for the below list of team names (so you can check if your form got through). I have reactivated the autoresponder to send out the email again 7 days after you submitted the original form. If you do not have it by then, contact Jaons again and we will try to do a manual email. Niamh O'Ceallaigh | Mar 25 2024, 1:32pm | Hi, I seem to be unable to submit the jotform. I get a message saying "Sorry, Only one entry is allowed" even on my first attempt to submit. I didn't receive an email with the link so am using the link off the event page. Thanks Niamh |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 25 2024, 4:51pm | Hi Niamh, You likely did it before we spotted the glitch and made the changeover. Hopefully it will trigger an edit email in 7 days so we will chase up with anyone we don't have next Monday. Thanks for your patience everyone! Jason |
Jason Kehoe | Mar 25 2024, 9:01pm | The first bit of drama to kick off the WWR. We decided last year to allow each years winning team an automatic guarantee of a place the following year going forward. This is something we had overlooked in the entry process this year. In true East Cork style it transpires our current champions East Cork A/C missed the registration date due to dramatic circumstances. Their Captain Tim O'Donoghue welcomed his third baby girl into the world the night before registration (congratulations mum and dad!) and through the jigs, reels and probably lack of sleep he missed the cut off. However as last years winners they should have had a guaranteed spot in any case (we dropped the ball on that). So rather than the capped 30 teams we will have 31 teams this year. Next year it will be total team entry cap (n) minus one spot for the winners available (n-1). We wanted to make this clear and transparent in case there were any queries. Best Regards, WWR Team |
Sheila O'Byrne | Apr 5 2024, 2:41pm | Hello, Question regarding a competitive Team of 8, I understand a competitive team must include 2 women and 2 vets and they may not be the same people. However, do the vets need to be of a certain gender? i.e can an all-female team be competitive? Thank you, Sheila |
Rene Borg | Apr 5 2024, 4:52pm | All female teams are allowed competitive and a few of them have done very well in the past. |
Darren Mooney | Apr 5 2024, 9:50pm | Can the 2 vets in a team be both Female? |
Peter O'Farrell | Apr 6 2024, 8:31am | @Darren - Assuming a competitive team of 8 ; YES both of the designated vets can be female In that case the team needs two other females (to be a competitive team) To take it to the end - a team of 8 vet women woud be a competitive team. From the current rules: To be competitive, teams must be made up as follows: Teams of 2: Open; Teams of 3: to include a woman or vet.; Teams of 4: to include a woman and vet. (may be the same person); Teams of 5: to include a woman and vet. (may not be the same person); Teams of 6: to include 2 women and 2 vets. (may be the same persons); Teams of 7: to include 2 women and 2 vets. (only one may be the same person); Teams of 8: to include 2 women and 2 vets (may not be the same persons) As an aside ; the no longer really done team of 4 is great craic. As a brucie bonus it's also eco friendly and logistically simple as 1 car does the whole team (assuming the 4 are happy to all do the whole day :) The team of 5, the John McEnri special, is the most tortuous for tactics. |
Kieran Duane | Apr 7 2024, 9:32pm | Hi Jason, I'm just wondering if the email following the system change sent successfully? I haven't received any emails yet. Thanks, Kieran. |
Peter Doyle | Apr 7 2024, 11:00pm | Hi Rene/ Jason, Post above reminded me to check email and no sign either of a Jotform email. So perhaps the change didnt work and manual intervention needed. Thanks |
Jason Kehoe | Apr 15 2024, 1:53pm | Hi Captains, It appears we've resolved the bugs in the team submissions. However, you'll need to allocate another 10 minutes to resubmit your entries. This step ensures you receive the auto-responder email promptly, which will include an edit option at the bottom. You'll use this option to modify your entry as your team makes changes. If still not email we will manually send to you if you reply to the email I sent you. Jason Kehoe | Apr 22 2024, 10:12am | ROUTE DIVERSIONS - LEG 6 (Glenmalure to Ironbridge) Reports from a weekend recce: Leg 6 - there's a diversion at 3.5km coming out of Glenmalure (sharp right up the Boardwalk). Signs for tree felling. Remember to follow signed diversions on the day. Hopefully no surprises the day of the race. Thanks, Jason |
Jason Kehoe | Apr 24 2024, 6:38pm | Here is the list of teams we currently have details for. Looks like we are missing four teams at this stage. Jason Kehoe | Apr 28 2024, 9:49pm | OFFICIAL TEAM NUMBERS: As is tradition teams have been assigned their team number in the order they finished the race in 2023. We have 20 teams returning to see if they can improve their ranking. We have 12 new team additions from last year, although most I'm sure they have ran the event in some shape or form before. If not you are in for a real treat and we hope you have a fantastic day out on the hills and backroads of Wicklow. I have sent the captains first update and more will follow in the next week or two, specifically around parking and some driving diversions on the day. Your team number is what you will shout when you come in to a handover point to tag your team mate, our marshals need this number to record your result manually. WWR 2024 TEAMS: 1. East Cork AC 2. Rene Borg | Apr 30 2024, 9:57am | A note on leg 4: those who have run it recently will have noticed there has been significant works by Coillte on the section above Gaffney's Lane and towards Brusher's Gap hut (essentially a fire-road has been built through the trail and in parallel with the trail. It does not change the route, however, the Wicklow Way still runs on Gaffney's Lane until the stile and the existing trail runs inside an earthbank. The only noticeable change is that you know cross over a fire-road briefly a few hundred metres before the hut (adding a junction). leg 4 runners SHOULD NOT jump out on the fire-road running in parallel (as you are off the Wicklow Way). Just stay on the existing trail. The signposting is still solid but there may be a temptation to jump out on the fire-road briefly as it allows runners to avoid a stile. This will be rectified in future years as there will be a gate and mound built to separate the fire-road from the trail. |
Alan Ayling | Apr 30 2024, 12:35pm | Rule 7 is alive and well... ;-) |
David Power | May 1 2024, 10:48pm | On leg 5 at top of the climb after the sleepers, there’s a new gate and path installed. Do we go on this new path through the new gate or stay on the track / technical decent piece as per previous years ? (New path appears to be marked with yellow man) |
Rene Borg | May 2 2024, 10:33am | @ David: before Alan has a change to post 'Rule 7 applies' ;-), the new descent is used as that was designed specifically to get the Wicklow Way off the technical rocky section. So as that is now the Wicklow Way, we leave the old trail behind (I can hear the groans of the technical downhillers - sorry lads and lassies!) |
Conor Cleary | May 6 2024, 3:36pm | @Jason, RE: ROUTE DIVERSIONS - LEG 6 (Glenmalure to Ironbridge). We recce'd this today and followed the diversion you called out at approx 3.75km. We went left off the boardwalk and down onto Military Road. We rejoined the WW at Croaghanmoira Car Park, approx 7.25km point, allowing us to take the boardwalk steps down to the grass trail that runs parallel to Military Road. But we never saw a sign to indicate the end of diversion, and we could have easily continued on to where the WW crosses over Military Road approx 8.5km. Could you clarify the correct point to rejoin WW after the diversion please? |
Jarlath Hynes | May 6 2024, 5:59pm | @Conor, after diversion, re-routed WW turns right up into the forest BEFORE you get down to Military Rd. Easy to miss , path up through forest is taped/signed. (That was last week, so I presume it's the same now) |
Sean Sheridan-O'Gorman | May 9 2024, 4:11pm | As per last year, I'm sure I'm not the first bod to stick the thumb out - as Rob Tobin's Nan says, nothing ventured nothing gained! If anyone is having last minute issues and needs a runner for next Saturday (unfortunately I'm not +40/Female...) give me a shout on 0838627775. Very happy to hop on a leg and give it a swirl! |
Brian O'Gorman | May 10 2024, 10:05am | Hi. My recollection from the last few years is that the only mandatory kit was a rain jacket. I see this year there is a long list of mandatory kit:Waterproof jacket Hat or buff Gloves Whistle Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored Foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent Just checking this is correct and every runner needs to be prepared to carry this full list unless advised otherwise on the day of the race? |
Dave Docherty | May 10 2024, 11:49am | I'm on looking for a lift from leg 1 finish line back to the start if anyone could help me out. I have my van up on the vanpool if anybody needs a lift up to the start of leg 1 from Dundrum/Milltown or there abouts. Thanks |
Jason Kehoe | May 11 2024, 8:03am | @Brian - I've updated the event details there to reflect that it's just the basic jacket that's required. As with all races runners should take into account conditions on the day and bring whatever they think they would need should injury or navigational error strike. Additionally I would recommend bringing a phone and small bottle of fluids (if warm like this weekend). If a cold snap then a hat / buff etc. So just a jacket required for the moment. Thanks, Jason |
Ciaran Aylward | May 11 2024, 12:13pm | Any further updates on changes to the Leg 6 route would be appreciated. I heard it was back to normal this week. |
Richard Gallagher | May 11 2024, 8:30pm | Was on it earlier was the usual route as of last year, didn’t see any changes apart from three fallen trees down across the path as you head up the hill after military road. |
Raghnall O'Donoghue | May 11 2024, 9:11pm | I was up there today and my interpretation was that the diversion is still in place. The red/white tape has been taken down as you go from the first stretch of boardwalk to the second, but the signage is still in place at both ends of the diversion. Have added a couple of photos because I was not 100% on it. Might be that guidance should be provided to leg 6 runners on the morning of the event if ambiguity remains? |
Jason Kehoe | May 12 2024, 8:36pm | It's been reported to me on Friday (and Raghnall today) that the diversion is still in place to turn right. It's signposted and looks a bit like a staircase into the bank with two posts and a rail (hard to miss), see photo on the event photos page. By all accounts a nicer trail to be on now I'm informed. @Raghnall - ingenious idea uploading the photos, thank you! Photos: https://www.imra.ie/events/photos/id/2482/ As usual please don't forget the infamous spot where you stay on the WW trail running parallel to the military road before you pop out onto the road. Thanks, Jason |
John conway | May 12 2024, 8:56pm | Hi all. If any team is in need of a runner, I’d be more than happy to join. 087 0638431 |
Ciaran Aylward | May 12 2024, 9:03pm | Thanks Jason. Just for clarity, is the diversion just past the original right turn at right turn at 3.5km? Perhaps a photo with map and arrow showing the correct route could be added? |
Conor Nolan | May 12 2024, 10:27pm | I've uploaded a sketch to the event photos of what I believe is the correct detour, gleaned from descriptions and Strava. I haven't recced it myself. If it's wrong let's know asap and I'll get rid of it. |
Conor Nolan | May 12 2024, 10:30pm | (yellow dots are normal route) |
Ciaran Aylward | May 12 2024, 10:49pm | Thanks Conor. That's clear, assuming it's correct! |
Conor Cleary | May 13 2024, 9:27am | RE Route 6. Thanks everyone for all those responses. The map and photos make it clear. I can recall seeing the 2nd diversion sign now, but I thought it was indicating that the diversion continues down the fire road rather than take a right turn off it. Its about 100m or so, before Military Road. |
Mick Hanney | May 13 2024, 7:01pm | Hi, Just in from a run on the diversion. Link on the leg 6 diversion. I'll add photos. https://hiiker.app/maps/planned-trails/ww-leg-6-diversion-13-may-2024--439583 Its a lovely new section. Proper foresty single-track. After the boardwalk section, you turn left and proceed along fire-road for 5 to 6 hundred metres. Any further and you'll reach the gate at the military road. The diversion takes a single track right steeply upwards to the right.. The diversion sign off the fire-road is deceptive. An obvious right arrow would be nice. Instead they have a sign pointing like this <---> which makes more sense when you are coming down the track. But the turn is right! Tbere is a combination of green diversion signs along with oodles of red and white tape. Its not marked end to end, but the single track is pretty clear and lift the head and you'll see marking. Concentration is needed mind you. When you emerge from the single track, there is a slight left turn but a right turn onto the fire-road of old. Regards, Mick |
Warren Swords | May 13 2024, 7:11pm | What’s the story with sharing course intel? Gone be the days where reccees were a key part of the race ;) There’s more instructions for leg 6 than an ikea kitchen. |
David Power | May 13 2024, 8:02pm | Those photos could be AI generated and Mick Hanney could be a chatbot. No doubt some other less suspecting leg will jump up to bite someone this year. Caveat emptor! |
Piotr Bergel | May 15 2024, 11:01am | @David- do you still locking for swap parking marshall, Curtlestown to Oldbridge? I'm down for Oldbridge Marshall. Piotr |
David Power | May 15 2024, 6:27pm | @Piotr , we re ok now thanks we have a marshal for curtlestown |
Jason Kehoe | May 17 2024, 10:26am | Hello Captains and Runners, Just one more restless sleep, for you and your leg 1 runner in any case! The logistics and effort of getting a team to the start line and then the finish line is monumental, and we hope you have had great support from your team along the way. Your team's entry fee is a donation to fund the IMRA junior international teams, and we appreciate your support and good nature throughout the lead-up and on race day. CHECKLIST: 1. All cars associated with your team, in any shape or form, have printed the Cars Parking Display sheet. 2. Ensure your team knows the implications of bad parking regarding time penalties, non-competitiveness, and disqualification. 3. Ensure all runners have registered on IMRA and have a 2024 registration number (i.e., this year). 4. Read your Jot form entry again and make sure all details are correct (e.g., age categories, IMRA numbers). 5. All runners have their jackets for the run. 6. Ensure volunteers know their on-site time and to check in with the head marshal. 7. Tell runners NOT to put the GPS tracker in a backpack, bum bag, etc. The belt must go around the waist. 8. Warn runners to return to the WW trail the way they came should they go wrong; otherwise, they will fall foul of rule 7. 9. Volunteers should add themselves to the event page to get their volunteer credit before Saturday (we don't plan on doing that for them post-event). 10. Set your alarm clocks! Leg 1 runners would want to be at start around 6:20-30am to collect team tracker and get a warmup. For any urgent problems, you can reach me today. Otherwise see you all tomorrow! Thanks, Jason & Bill |
Jason Kehoe | May 17 2024, 10:30am | PRIMAL TRACKING LINK: Follow the action at the following link tomorrow! https://live.primaltracking.com/wwr2024/ |
Mick Hanney | May 17 2024, 11:06am | At Ironbridge, like last year, we should have a barrier open into the forest fire road to take the overflow of cars from the main car park (which is quite small). Please don't block the road. If you are asked to park on that fire road, you can drive thru the open barrier, head a couple of hundred metres to a turning circle, and park facing the exit, tucking into one side of the fire road to allow car pass. |
Niamh O'Ceallaigh | May 19 2024, 10:01am | Thank you so much to Jason, Rene, Bill, all the marshal and everyone working behind the scenes to make yesterday happen so smoothly. As always it was a fabulous day of fun, excitement, chats and laughs. The highlight of the imra year for me. Thank you so much |
Peter Doyle | May 19 2024, 1:39pm | To echo Niamh's comments, thanks to all who made yesterday such a great day (as it is every year). Loads of effort put in behind the scenes so that us runners can enjoy the day. Definitely the highlight of the year - looking forward to next year |
Alasdair Brown | May 19 2024, 1:47pm | Fantastic day yesterday, IMRA and the organisers never fail to deliver an incredible relay. Thanks to Rene and the team in delivering another memorable event. I think anyone who takes part will agree it's absolutely one of the best events of the year if not the best! |
David Power | May 19 2024, 2:04pm | "The likelihood of getting lost is directly proportional to the number of times the direction-giver says, 'You can't miss it'. - Hal Roach Experience doesn't count for much when you're in race mode and 50 minutes into a 90 minute run. You hear the relaxing sound of gurgling water and think, that's my stream for turning right. Up the track you go, but when you notice the lack of bluebells in the ditch and the new house that wasn't there 2 weeks ago, you have a decision to make. Rule 7 or not rule 7? You do the honorable thing, hoping the GPS tracker won't publicise your wayward path. Time lost but adventure gained. Your battle your mind and soldier on. I'm at peace with myself by the finish. Consoled with a comforting 3rd place for the team. Well done East Cork AC, led from start to finish. TT and ourselves Rathfarnham had a good battle til the latter stages. So many friendly faces out there over the course of a memorable and unique day. Thanks to Jason, Bill and all the volunteer marshals. Oh and to the sun, except when it made me melt halfway around my run. I will propose a rule 8 next year: that Tim O'Donoghue be ineligible to run leg 7 and focuses on the downhill speed of leg 3. |
Deirdre Galvin | May 19 2024, 4:17pm | My first time taking part, and I loved it. There is so much to be said for racing as part of a team. Thank you to all the organisers, marshalls, volunteers etc. |
Rene Borg | May 19 2024, 4:20pm | Hi Alasdair, all credit needs to go to Jason and Bill this year. I could be only be involved with the form setup as I was organising Lap of the Gap the same day. Hope to get started on the detailed results in the coming days. Once the first iteration comes in, then everyone can send their queries/corrections and after that step, the IMRA results secretary will then upload to the website. |
Alasdair Brown | May 19 2024, 6:05pm | Thanks Rene. Apologies, yes of course Jason! |
Sorcha Loughnane | May 19 2024, 8:02pm | Thanks so much to all the organisers. First time doing the WWR and I was amazed at how seamless it all was - no doubt due to lots of hard work behind the scenes. So proud to be part of an all-woman team - hope we’ll see more of them in the future! |
Alice Clancy | May 19 2024, 11:12pm | Thank you so much Jason, Bill and all the friendly volunteers….that was such a brilliant day yesterday!! Great fun, really well organised and such competition throughout the field….The battle at the back was fierce, but alas the Animals had to concede defeat to the Buckfast Brigade….for this year. We’ll be back! For anyone thinking of doing this next year - do it!!! Get a team together, register within the first 5 minutes of the event opening, recce your routes and enjoy one of the best events on the IMRA calendar! |
Liam Bowe | May 20 2024, 10:04am | A huge thank you to Jason, Bill and all crew for putting an event like that together and making it look so easy, from the very appreciative Racing 795 team. Here's to the next 21 years. All really looking forward to dissecting the official results. |
Francis Conroy | May 20 2024, 11:02am | Brilliant and challenging day out; Thanks to all who made it a most memorable run - marshals at changeovers, helpers and runners who did transfers start to finish and of course the team captains who held it all together. A great learning event. I must also mention Thomas and his girlfriend from the Netherlands who redirected me when I went wrong ! |
Derek Hay | May 20 2024, 11:29am | I just wanted to pass on a huge thank you to Jason and the team from myself and everyone at Irish Lights, what a great race and day out that was! The organisation, weather, and the camaraderie among the teams was top notch and only added to a great atmosphere. Easily one of the best events on the calendar and I'd advise anyone thinking about putting a team in to give it a go! |
John Rowe | May 20 2024, 2:05pm | Hugh thanks from The Bravehearts team to Jason, Bill and everyone involved in organising this fantastic event. Another memorable and very enjoyable day. Certainly for every one of us it's the highlight of the year. |
Jenni Miley | May 20 2024, 3:55pm | Massive thank you to Jason & the crew, what an amazing day, this has to be the best race in the calendar. Everything went so smoothly, from start to finish. Epic route and epic people, already looking forward to next year's one. |
Rene Borg | May 22 2024, 10:32am | The timing sheet is now up and running and results are being typed up. I'll post each leg here for quick review before sending up the full file email me at rene dot borg at outlook dot ie with results queries. we need to get any errors updated before IMRA can upload it to the database. Please do not report small discrepancies - only major ones. Note a few results will be slightly off as some timing sheets did not record seconds. A few more interesting statistics from the team journey which is now complete: - this year's relay was a good bit more stable than last years: on average 58% of teams changed position per leg vs. 74 % last year - the longest 'red streaks' (losing position on consecutive legs) was 3: Brother's Pearse, Mountain Swifts, and Tree Trotters - apart from East Cork (no change of position) the two most stable teams were TT Racers and Rathfarnham who only changed position once (with each other on leg 5) - the 'hottest' green streak was Iron Space Bridge who gained spots on 4 consecutive legs - the best finish was Le Cheile who gained spots on all their final three legs - the worst finish was Mountain Swifts who lost position on all three final legs - as normal the further the race progressed the less changes took place with the most on leg 2 (27 changes) and the least on leg 8 (8 changes of position), the only leg that had more changes than a previous leg was leg 5 - there are exceptions to this: last year several legs in the middle of the race bucked this trend with an incredible 33 changes on leg 7 (more than any other leg in that race or this year's race) |
Rene Borg | May 23 2024, 10:50am | two results amendments so far: Eamonn Hodge on leg 2 and an adjustment of the times of the TT Racers runners on leg 5 and leg 6 which changes the standings of those legs. look at the link for latest |
Kieran Duane | May 23 2024, 2:20pm | Hi Rene, I sent you an email about a correction. Did you receive it? Thanks, Kieran. |
Rene Borg | May 27 2024, 9:42am | all results queries received have now been dealt with and I will submit the file to the IMRA results secretary later today. After that it'll be harder to change any errors - so if you had spotted anything please send on details in the coming hours. |
Rene Borg | May 27 2024, 3:16pm | Queries nearly resolved so the historical sheet is now also updated: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/p2j0cepant64urydkhuf0/WWR-2002-2024.xlsx?rlkey=fvjfxn9kait1byqgm9hgts4j7&dl=0 Main insights: - YBCV2 became the fastest female-only team in the relay's history with their 8.5 hour performance bettering their own current best of 9:06 - East Cork moved past Clonliffe into 3rd position in the overall medal table with 2 golds and 1 silver to Clonliffe's 2 gold and 2 Bronze. Rathfarnham continues to lead ahead of TT - Crusaders extend their lead as the most prolific club in the relays history with 30 total appearances in 21 editions followed by Setanta (17) and Rathfarnham (15) - Kilcoole set the second fastest time by a Wicklow club (bettering their own previous best time and matching their previous best position of fourth). The 2014 Sli Cualann team remains the only official Wicklow club team to get onto a podium with their 7:41. The wait for a local win continues into a 22nd year.... RECORDS ETC. Two new records was set: Sarah Flanagan lowered the women's best for leg 2 under 80 minutes for the first time with 1:19:01 breaking Aisling Coppinger's 2008 mark of 1:21:07. Sile O'Byrne ran 60:49 for leg 6 for a new women's record on a 'near traditional leg 6 (same distance but different version to most years). While Niamh O'Ceallaigh has a faster time this was on a much shortened 10.4 k version (in 2016/2017) There were some very noteable 'near misses' this year: - Tim O'Donoghue whose 74 minute time on leg 7 was the second fastest ever. Tim holds 6 of the top-7 times on the leg. Only John Brooks splits his time with his 75 minute run on the old 2005 version of the route - Elizabeth Wheeler also came within 1:42 of Beth McCluskey's 2003 Leg 7 women's record. this is by far the closest any woman has been to this time (third being over 4 minutes further off) - Aoife Mundow on leg 5 ran the 2nd fastest female time on leg 5 so far - 2 min 39 seconds off Beth McCluskey's 2010 time. Here it must be noted that leg 5 is slightly longer now (although also slightly faster after the removal of the one technical descent) - records for most runs on a leg now stand at: - Leg 1: Nadya Dunne, Derek Charles and Amidou Dembele (8) - Leg 2: Tommy Galvin (12) - Leg 3: Seamus Kilcullen RIP (10) - Leg 4: Emma Sokell, Ger Power and Ann Tobin (7) - Leg 5: Brian Phelan (11) - Leg 6: Ben Mooney (10) - Leg 7: Declan Swords (9) - Leg 8: Maureen Lowther (6) Overall record for legs run remains safely with John McEnri at 21 - Brendan Lawlor is the only close with 18. |
David Power | May 29 2024, 2:12pm | Race report for the relay now available - where are the other stories from the 30+ teams?? |
Jeff Swords | Jun 13 2024, 8:28pm | Hi all, People involved may have noticed there's no results yet published. There's a few queries outstanding with some teams, team captains have been mailed about them and only a couple have responded to resolve these. Any teams who haven't responded to these queries in order to resolve their team lineups by Sunday night will be listed as DNFs. There's only so long we can wait and it's unfair to the other teams. |
Jeff Swords | Jul 17 2024, 12:23pm | Hi all, Last of the outstanding queries with teams have been resolved in some form or another so results are finally published. If you have any queries about either your team placement or individual leg can you coordinate with your team captain and they can be the point of contact with IMRAresults at gmail dot com |
