Gavan Duffy | Aug 10 2017, 4:41pm | Hi Joe, Have you decided on a location for the second Nav Challenge? Thanks Gavan. |
Joe Lalor | Aug 10 2017, 10:32pm | NC2 will start from carpark near miners village in Glendasan 100982. More details later |
Joe Lalor | Aug 15 2017, 10:10pm | I am looking for a first aider to volunteer for this event on the 27th. |
Joe Lalor | Aug 18 2017, 9:21am | Some further details for NC2 (27th Aug.) Start/ Finish T100982 Carpark, Glendasan Miners' Village, Wicklow Gap Road. This carpark is popular with hillwalkers and sightseers, so could runners arrange to meet on way to race and arrive at start in full cars. The long course at 17.5km and the short course at 10km may seem to be quite similar however they are completely different animals. The long course is over some very rough ground with quite difficult navigation particularly in poor weather and I would not recommend anyone taking it on who is not confident in their navigation and travelling over difficult terrain. The short course on the other hand is quite straight forward. I am still looking for a first aid volunteer for this event. |
Brían O'Meara | Aug 18 2017, 11:18am | Will non-confident navigators be doomed to wander in the vicinity of the three lakes for all eternity, Joe? Looking forward to it! |
Graham K. Bushe | Aug 18 2017, 11:40am | I'm sure they will be allowed to make their way back to the start/finish, once they have found the third lake ;) |
Pól Ó Murchú | Aug 18 2017, 12:23pm | I once found 4 lakes...then I realised I was just wandering round in circles... |
Sam Scriven | Aug 18 2017, 12:50pm | Nav Challenge 2 - The Bermuda Triangle |
Joe Lalor | Aug 24 2017, 10:40pm | NC2 this Sunday starting at 10.30. Early start at 9.30 for those who qualify. Short course available. Long course mainly on trackless open mountain so bring suitable attire and provisions. As mentioned previously the parking area is popular with hillwalkers and sightseers, so arrive early in full cars (arrange to meet up on the way). |
Melanie Walsh | Aug 26 2017, 3:16pm | Just wondering are you taking early starts on the Short course tomorrow? |
Joe Lalor | Aug 26 2017, 6:56pm | All systems go. Walked the long course today. It came in at 18.1km with 829m of climb. It may be possible to shave a bit off this by take some more direct (but rougher) route choices, but not much. Much of course very wet. Yes to question above early starts for both short and long courses at 9.30 but not for fast runners. Hope none of you were in Mountain Rescue team up on hill watching us put out controls today? |
Mick Hanney | Aug 27 2017, 3:09pm | A couple of photos added from the sunny river cooldown after. Great day. Thanks Joe & Nora. |

Mick Hanney | Aug 28 2017, 8:19am | When I click on Leagues and Navigation Challenge I get an Application Error and not the list of Nav events, so something is not quite right there. |
John B Riordan | Aug 28 2017, 9:03am | Super event yesterday folks ... weather made it all the better :-) Compass was largely redundant for me on the day but could you imagine in low cloud / low viz ... different story entirely. Well done to everyone for the effort that went into yet another successful Nav Challenge. |
James H Cahill | Aug 28 2017, 3:41pm | Thank you Joe and Nora for a great Nav event yesterday. Challenging course with lots of open mountain and plenty of painful climbs. Lots of planning, recces and demarking has clearly gone into it. Great day out and thank you for all your time and work on it. |
Andrew Hanney | Sep 5 2017, 9:20pm | Just wondering if the results above can be transformed into official results whenever you get a chance, thanks! |
