Nauset GonzalezJun 26 2017, 7:39pmWhen and where can I pay my inscription for the race?
Mick HanneyJun 26 2017, 7:47pmRace entry should be visible once Wednesday race on Tibradden is finished. I suggest you try Thursday morning.
Andrew HanneyJun 26 2017, 9:55pmIt's available now.
Karen DevenneyJun 26 2017, 9:55pmEntry is now open
John CondonJun 27 2017, 12:14pmLooking for one or two more volunteers for Saturday. Will need a summit marshal too.
John CondonJun 28 2017, 9:54amUnfortunately, due to an unforeseen work commitment, I'm unable to RD this weekend. Apologies for the short notice.

John
Kieran MorrisroeJun 28 2017, 10:29amCan I be the summit marshal?
Laura FlynnJun 28 2017, 10:32amAs John Condon is not now avialable can someone look at taking on role of RD for this event. I will be at Tibradden tonight if anyone interested we can discuss,
Looks like a few more volunteers are required also
Nauset GonzalezJun 28 2017, 1:43pmHi everyone.
What is the exact direction of the parking for the race? To use it with the gps of the car.
Thanks
John CondonJun 28 2017, 3:32pmNausea, it's Baravore carpark, Grid Ref T 065 942. Ideally runners are asked to carpool from the Glenmalure Lodge in Drumgoff as the carpark can get quite full.

John CondonJun 28 2017, 3:32pmsorry autospell
Mick HanneyJun 28 2017, 3:40pmI believe the local GAA club are doing an event based out of the Glenmalure car park on Saturday morning so there is a possibility of congestion here. If an RD comes forward one option might be to hold the IMRA race on Sunday instead.
John CondonJun 28 2017, 3:47pmI'm available Sunday if it is moved.
Laura FlynnJun 28 2017, 4:50pmThe committee has made a decision to reschedule this race for this SUNDAY.
John Condon will be race director. Can the people who already volunteered let us know if they have a problem with Sunday, particularly laptop nad first aid. a few more volunteered needed also.
Mick HanneyJun 28 2017, 8:14pmThanks John. I would like to run but can help at registration if you like e.g. get runners added to the laptop. Could help at race end too if and as required.
Brian LeonardJun 28 2017, 10:31pmLaura, I'm down as first aider and can do Saturday or Sunday. Maybe too late at this point but I could also do race director Saturday if it helped.
Tim ManganJun 28 2017, 11:15pmSorry John, Sunday is no good for me so I'll have to withdraw as a volunteer. Hope you get the bodies you need.
John CondonJun 29 2017, 8:49amThanks Mick. No problem Tim, appreciated.

John
Peter BellJun 30 2017, 8:43amIm good for Sunday. See u then.
John CondonJun 30 2017, 2:09pmRegistration for this race will be between 11.00am and 11.45am Barravore carpark. Can runners try and carpool from the Glenamure Lodge.

This race will be on an unmarked open mountain route. There will be a summit marshall. Competitors must be capable of navigating their way around the course.

That said (as of Friday), weather is looking fine for Sunday, but it's possible to get four seasons in a day up on Lug so mandatory kit is required.

It is as follows: map of route, compass, whistle, rain coat, hat or cap, gloves.

If you don't have the mandatory kit you can't run. End of discussion.

There will be an option of an early start at 11.30 for any entrants who have finished in the 160+% category in previous races. All early starters must state that they are an 'early starter' at the finish line.

Prize giving will be in the Glenmalure Lodge afterwards. See you Sunday.

Nauset GonzalezJun 30 2017, 2:28pmHi John Condon
Is the compass and map of the route obligatory?
I do not have this.
I follow the group of runners
Mick HanneyJun 30 2017, 2:42pmRace instructions say "Please also have a compass and a map of the race route". So you should have them to run and be prepared to use them if needed.
Stuart ScottJun 30 2017, 2:50pmHi Nauset,

Fraughen Rock is one of the trickier championship races, especially when the mist is down and there's only a few metres visibility. There's usually only a small field of runners so you could be on your own for most of the race. There are some very dangerous cliffs near the summit and it's very easy to get lost.

That said, if you have a map and compass and you're comfortable with taking a simple compass bearing then you'll be grand. If you're not so confident, then it's better waiting for an easier weekend race! Also keep an eye on the forum for Paul Nolan's nav courses which he runs occasionally. They're highly recommended!

Stuart
John CondonJun 30 2017, 3:21pmHi Nauset, As stated, compass and map are compulsory. There will be a kit check at race start and any runner without required kit will not be allowed to run.

EastWest maps can be picked up in most outdoor adventure shops, such as Basecamp or the Great Outdoors.

As Stuart said it is very easy to get lost when there is only a few metres visibility. I'd ask you to watch James Cahill's magnum opus from 2014. This will give you an idea as to what it could be like when the cloud comes down. Also, the Glen of Imaal on the far side of Lug is an Irish army artillery range and there's a chance they could be up there on Sunday.

Hopefully you get your kit sorted, and we'll see you at the weekend.
