Declan McElroy | Jan 10 2017, 7:35am | When do entries open ? |
Gareth Little | Jan 10 2017, 10:08am | Hi Declan, for what race? |
John J Barry | Jan 10 2017, 11:34am | The IMRA site is a bit weird. This forum tread is for the "MAURICE MULLINS ULTRA" but the title comes up with a random word as the"Title" Regarding when it opens, I suppose it will sometime in February. But more short term interest is:SLÍ GAELTACHT MHUSCRAÍ. Just four weeks away... |
Michael O'Donoghue | Jan 13 2017, 8:06pm | What type of footwear is needed for this race? Trail or Fell? I don't really fancy running 50k in fell shoes if there's extensive road sections. Also, are navigation skills required? I've never been to the Wicklow Mountains |
John J Barry | Jan 14 2017, 7:30pm | Michael, Fell shoes not required. I'll be using Inov-8 Trailroc. The route in general follows the Wicklow Way which is waymarked. The couple of bits near the start and near the turn around where we are not on the Wicklow way tend to be manned. But that does not mean one can not go wrong. Recce of the route would be recommended. |
Pól Ó Murchú | Feb 7 2017, 12:42pm | Is open now...You can stop all the emails and calls ;-) Cost: €20 Registration will close 20th of March...6 weeks to reg...No excuses...No last minute registration requests please! Please see event details on event page and keep an eye on event page/forum for any updates or changes. Thank you, Pól |
Caitriona Nic Caba | Feb 12 2017, 5:23pm | Hi Pol, Is the registration up and running? When I go to purchase Imra products, it is not showing up there, thanks, Caitriona |
Dermot Murphy | Feb 12 2017, 6:32pm | Catriona, it should be available. Have you registered for 2017 yet - 10 Euro option? You may need to register before you see the option to purchase the race. |
Derek Boland | Feb 21 2017, 8:12pm | Just signed for this race. 1st IMRA race, are there aid stations provided or is it self sufficient. is there minimum gear required like map compass rain jacket etc. thank you looking forward to it |
Dermot Murphy | Feb 22 2017, 12:49pm | Aid stations - at Crone wood (about half way between the start and the half way point) - which you pass twice, at the half way point at Ballinstoe. There may be a further aid station at Curtlestown (if a volunteer comes forward), about 5k past Crone wood. This will only be set up on the way back. Minimum gear - as on the event page - raincoat must be carried. |
Nicolas Mejri | Feb 27 2017, 6:13pm | Hello, I have a [stupid?] question: I just bought the inscription but I don't see any requirement. Do I need to produce any medical certifacte or equivalent? (This is quite unusual for me as I arrived from France a few months ago and this is my first race here). Thanks, Nicolas |
Dermot Murphy | Feb 27 2017, 8:43pm | Hi Nicolas, is your query specifically regarding a medical cert? If so, the answer is no, they are not a requirement. |
Nicolas Mejri | Feb 28 2017, 9:50am | Thanks for the quick answer ! I'm use to french races where they always ask for it. |
Snjezana Frketic | Mar 7 2017, 1:45pm | Hi, Are walking/running poles allowed? Thanks! |
John J Barry | Mar 8 2017, 11:12am | Don't know. But there isn't enough climbing on the route to justify bringing them. |
Paul Murphy | Mar 9 2017, 8:51am | Wondering what is available at aid stations or is this a self sufficient event thanks Paul |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 9 2017, 1:04pm | Reminder : Entries will be open until March 20, and no transfers allowed after this, so no waiting list. If you get your entry in before March 20, you are in! Looking for volunteers for this (thanks to those who have volunteered so far). Running volunteers - can help with registration and parking at Johnnie Foxes. Non Running volunteers - will take as many of these as we can! Plenty required for the finish, marshalling and we will need a first aider. Parking will be at the overflow car park at Johnie Foxes and registeration will be at the Glencullen Golf Club (same place as last year). The marshals will direct you to registration if you are unfamiliar with the area. Please note - if you are been dropped off at registration - and so do not need to leave a car there during the race, feel free to park up at the Glencullen Golf Club, BUT CARS CANNOT STAY THERE ONCE THE RACE IS UNDERWAY. THERE IS A DIFFERENT EVENT ON LATER THAT DAY, AND WE HAVE WILL NOT HAVE THE USE OF THE CAR PARK ONCE THE RACE IS UNDERWAY. The finish this year is at the Glencullen GAA - so back to the old finish line, but we should have the use of the GAA club so we can have the finish line off the road. Any further questions, feel free to ask! |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 9 2017, 1:07pm | Water stations will be at Crone wood (about 12k in), Half way at Ballinstoe (25k) and Crone wood again (about 38k). There may be a further station at Curtlestown (5k after Crone wood) but this will be dependent on a volunteer coming forward to man this. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 10 2017, 2:27pm | PLEASE NOTE: Early Start is at 8:30am, and only for people who feel the cut off times will be tight. A number of people took the early start last year who clearly did not need to. In order to prevent this from happening this year, your finishing time will be adjusted to 6 hours if you finish under this time AND take the early start. So please do not take the early start if you feel you will finish around 6 hours or less. Cut off times : Balinastoe (halfway): 13:00 Crone Woods Car Park (return): 14:45 Curtlestown Car Park (return): 15:30 |
Sallie Ennis | Mar 16 2017, 6:44pm | I have a bad dose of tonsillitis so won't be able for the ultra so if there is a waiting list my place is going spare. |
Sallie Ennis | Mar 16 2017, 6:45pm | I have a bad dose of tonsillitis so won't be able for the ultra so if there is a waiting list my place is going spare. |
michal pospisil | Mar 19 2017, 5:44pm | Hi All, I would like to run Maurice Mullins Ultra and im not a IMRA member. Do i need to purchase 10 euro membership+ 20 euro race cost to enter the race or is race cost only enough. Thanks This would be my first ultra so I`d love to try it. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 19 2017, 5:57pm | Hi Michael, yes you need to purchase the yearly membership to enter (if you are not already a member this year). All - please remember entries close tomorrow. No entries or transfers after entries close. |
Van Wanrooy Lisa | Mar 19 2017, 11:49pm | Hi. What time would you like me to arrive as a volunteer? |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 20 2017, 8:53am | Hi Lisa - we will have registration open from about 7:30am to 9:30am and then the finish from about 1:30pm to 4:30. Which of those slots suits you best? If either is OK, I would probably have a greater need at the finish (1:30 to 4:30). Will be sending out an email to all volunteers in the next day or two - if you are a running volunteer, I will expect you be given a job with either registration or parking. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 20 2017, 2:30pm | Online entry will close at 9pm this evening. |
Daniela Boehm | Mar 21 2017, 10:28am | Hi Dermot, if you are still looking for someone to do a water/aid station at Curtlestown, I'd be more than happy to or can do any other volunteer job (I've just put my name down, I wasn't sure I'd be here on Sat). Daniela |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 21 2017, 11:04am | Thanks Daniela - we have Jim Fitzharris at Curtlestown. While we have all the essentials covered at this stage, I would certainly appreciate as much help as I can get at the finish. |
Snjezana Frketic | Mar 21 2017, 12:41pm | Google Earth KML file of the route is not working? |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 21 2017, 12:47pm | PLEASE NOTE - REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. STRICTLY NO REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS ALLOWED. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 21 2017, 12:51pm | Can any of the IT guys fix the broken Google link? The map of the route in the map section on the event page is a pretty good substitute. Any questions on the route itself, please feel free to ask. If anyone is aware of any particular problems on the route encountered during recce's, please advise of same. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 23 2017, 11:01am | Please see race instructions below. Parking for the Ultra is at the overflow car park at Johnnie Foxes and registration is at the Glencullen Golf Club. Please follow marshals instructions on where to park. Early start (8:30am) is available to those who might need it for the cut offs. Note - early start should only be taken by those taking 6 hours or more - if your time is less than 6 hours and you take the early start, your time will be adjusted to 6 hours. Race Instructions 1)Route is strictly on the Wicklow Way. Please did not use any short-cuts ie cutting out zig-zags etc - this will be considered cheating and will result in disqualification. Safety point - runners might consider running in groups, especially if you are unfamiliar with route. See who is at a similar pace. Finish will be at the GAA club. Be careful of the road sections, as there may be traffic on them. 2) Mandatory kit requirement - JACKET, this will be STRICTLY enforced. Mobile phones are not mandatory but are recommended. 3) Please note the cut off times at Ballinastoe (1pm), Crone wood (2:45pm) and Curtlestown (3:30pm) - please cooperate with the marshals if you do not reach the cut off in time. 4) Strictly no littering - please leave any litter at the water stations or bring it with you. If you see anyone littering, call them up on it. 5) Dont forget to have your number visible/at hand at the finish so your time can be recorded. Your race number should be kept - do not hand it back at the finish. Also dont forget to pick up your mug! 6) Strictly no headphones on this race - if you see anyone with them on, dont be shy about telling them to take them off. |

Wayne Byrne | Mar 23 2017, 1:12pm | Hi 2 questions can you leave a bag of dry clothes at the Start/finish line and do we have access to the showers in the GAA club after the race. Thank you. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 23 2017, 1:31pm | The finish will be at the GAA club, but you will not be able to leave gear there before the start of the Ultra as it will be closed. Should be showers available at the GAA club at the end, cant guarantee they will be hot though! It a 5 minute walk back to Johnies from the GAA club, but not sure if people will walk back for a shower... Option should be there though. |
Gerard Tully | Mar 23 2017, 7:16pm | Hi first time doing this ultra is there going to be food bag drops organised, do I get my number on the day, cheers Gerard |
Jackie Toal | Mar 23 2017, 8:31pm | Is there a start list? Are there many doing the ultra? Thanks Jackie |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 23 2017, 9:26pm | Gerard - for bag drops there are two, - at Crone wood (about half way between the start and the half way point) - which you pass twice, and at the half way point at Ballinstoe. There is a further aid station at Curtlestown , about 5k past Crone wood. This will only be set up on the way back and will not be a bag drop location. You will collect your race number at registration. Please sign the sign in sheet first and then collect your number - you will then be ready to go! |

Dermot Murphy | Mar 24 2017, 8:07am | Renata - you are on the list for the 25k Trail - the list above is for the Ultra only. Can you please confirm if you wanted to enter the Trail (25k) or the Ultra (50k)? |
Renata Rogic | Mar 24 2017, 8:11am | 25k. thank you. |
Olivier Privat | Mar 24 2017, 9:27am | Dermot, I register for the ultra on the 9th of February (Payment ID 887) but I am not on your registration list. My IMRA bib number for the year is 890. Could you please advice as I was planning to run tomorrow morning... |
Olivier Privat | Mar 24 2017, 9:36am | Dermot, my payment ID is actually 8807. Cheers |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 24 2017, 9:37am | Hi Olivier, I can see that you registered for the year - race number 890 - but are you sure you also registered for the race? What is on the mail? You should have paid €10 annual membership and €20 race fee. I cannot see your name or race number on the entry list. |
Olivier Privat | Mar 24 2017, 10:12am | Dermot, On the same day and on the same payment I did pay my year membership (€10) and the entry fee for the ultra (€20). I can send you you a screen shot of my purchase history if you wish. You should have access to "MyIMRA" details and find my email address. In return I will send you that screenshot. Regards |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 24 2017, 10:21am | Has anyone on the committee seen Olivier's note? Who does he need to contact in order to check his entry? Olivier, send the details to Karen Devenney - email on contacts page and ask her to check. |
Olivier Privat | Mar 24 2017, 10:45am | Dermot, just sent an email to Karen. Hoping the issue can be resolved in order to be running tomorrow morning. |

I'm ok, home from A&E, 9 stitches but should heal well. Big shout out especially to Lar and Lorcan and all the guys and girls who helped me get down safely, thanks so much! Really enjoyed the first half of the race! Hope ye all had fun n the return journey and all got back safe, thanks, Cait xxx |

Lillian Deegan | Mar 25 2017, 9:04pm | Thanks for the update Caitriona. At base, we received info. of the incident and were unsure of who it was that had to head for A&E. Glad to hear you got sorted medically. Swift recovery wishes with the war wound. . |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 26 2017, 8:53am | I hope you all enjoyed the race yesterday - the beautiful weather helped, but maybe a bit too hot for some! Many thanks to the Mullins family for commissioning the perpetual trophies for the Ultra male and female winners, its great to introduce these beautiful trophies for the annual winners. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped our during day - without whom the race could not go ahead. Thanks to the following - Jarlath and Graham for Parking at Johnnie Foxes, John and Peter for parking at Leopardstown, Ultra Registration - Lillian (also first aider throughout the day), Lisa, Richard and James Cahill, Trail registration - Declan, Eoin, and Cathy (drafted in on the day), Mick for organising the buses and the bag drops from Leopardstown to the GAA club. Lindie, Hilary, John (and others) at the half way point at Ballinastoe, Mary O'Colmain for the Crone wood water station and Jim Fitzharris at Curtlestown water station. Thanks to Henny for marking the section down to Ballinastoe and marshal at this section as well. Thanks to all those who helped out at the finish - Leo, Anne-Marie, Jarlath, Rachel and Daniela (and any others who also helped out at various stage). Also thanks to Peter, who chipped in at various stage between child minding duties and supporting! We did have a problem with our emergency phone on the day which caused issues for a few runners who needed help to get off the course. The phone was directed to me on Friday lunchtime and tested and was working at that point. However, we have since found out that an IT issue on Friday afternoon meant that the phone was redirected back to a helpline that had nothing to do with our race. We only found out about the problem when a runner came back to the finish to tell us that the emergency phone was not working and he had to make his own way back to the finish. The main issue the phone caused was that we could not help any stranded runners back to base - we apologies for that as it is not what you expect from on IMRA race. Thanks to those who made their way back to the finish to inform us of their difficulties and sorry for the inconvenience which it caused. Results now complied and sent on for upload to the site - should be up in the next day or two. |
Jackie Toal | Mar 26 2017, 10:58am | Many thanks Dermot to you Richard, Lillian & all the marshals & volunteers fir all the support & organisation yesterday, including organising the weather. A super event. It was such a pleasure & privilege to meet Maurice Mullan's family also. Look forward to it next year. |
Lindie Naughton | Mar 26 2017, 12:22pm | Have put a few pics up from Ballinastoe at www.lindie.zenfolio.com. Just in case anyone is interested - they were taken mostly as back-up to the electroni check-in. |
Stephen Mc Cabe | Mar 26 2017, 4:48pm | Thanks for a great race, very well organised and marshalled. The only downside was finding my car had been broken into in Leopardstown. Luckily nothing was taken, just the nuisance of a smashed window. There was a security man there but he said he was only there to close the gates after we had all gone. Was the racecourse supposed to have laid on security and , if not, I think this is something to consider in the future. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 26 2017, 5:09pm | Sorry to hear that Stephen. The security man was right, security was not covered by the racecourse, but we will certainly add it next year. |
Lillian Deegan | Mar 27 2017, 11:15am | . Maeve Hegarty | Mar 27 2017, 1:08pm | Many thanks for your kind words. I was really happy at the positive reaction to the newly commissioned trophies for the Ultra. My family all really enjoyed the event and it is a comfort for us to know Dad's memory and connection with the mountains lives on through this wonderful IMRA event. I really enjoyed the Trail run and look forward to next year's event. Some day I'll tackle that Ultra...... |
Mike Lynch | Mar 28 2017, 4:46am | Dermot, Kathy and I finished so slowly that they had run out of finishers mugs by 4pm. The nice lady took our name so they could mail us mugs. However, we live in the US and that could be pricey for IMRA. How can I send you 20 Euro to cover the shipping? I could easily register for a race and you could use those funds. Thanks again for a great race and weather! Since we live in Las Vegas we are probably the only runners that were chilly at times. Also, the field is much larger than previous years but all the runners shared the course, especially the boards. Well done to all. Mike and Kathy |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 28 2017, 8:54am | Hi Mike - and anyone else who did not get a mug - I have sent the list of those who did not get a mug on Saturday on to the IT guys in order to get contact details (emails, if possible). When this list is complied, we will be in contact to see the best way to get the mug out to you. |
Dermot Murphy | Mar 28 2017, 9:55am | If anyone would like to add a race report, please feel free to do so. It is always good to read these reports and have a record of them for future years! |
Graham K. Bushe | Mar 28 2017, 10:27am | Hi Mike, this may be too late (ie you may already have left the country) but if it helps, I would be willing to let you have my MM mug... and get one from the next batch :) Only one, I know, but someone else might offer? |
Gordon Place | Mar 28 2017, 10:34am | Mike, Graham, I could do the same to make up the second mug, I am based in city centre,if it suits. Gordon |
Gordon Place | Mar 28 2017, 4:38pm | Actually I only did the Trail so probably different to the Ultra Mug. Maybe I should have got a cup |
Pól Ó Murchú | Mar 29 2017, 10:08pm | As advised above by Dermot Unfortunately We had a problem with our emergency phone on Saturday which caused issues for a few runners. IMRA use a third party service to divert our emergency number for each race to the Race Director on the day. The phone was diverted to Dermot on Friday lunchtime and tested and was working at that point. However, we have since found out that an IT issue on Friday afternoon meant that the phone was redirected back to a helpline that had nothing to do with our race. I expect they were equally confused to be getting a number of calls from runners. We only found out about the problem when a runner came back to the finish to tell us that the emergency phone was not working and he had to make his own way back to the finish. Unfortunately this was quite late on in the Day. The committee discussed the matter at our recent meeting and I have spoken to the company involved and we are looking at ways to ensure that this doesn't happen again. This is the first time that this has happened and we apologise for that. For anyone unfortunately affected I can assure you that this is not what you expect from on IMRA race. Thanks to those who made their way back to the finish to inform us of their difficulties and sorry for the inconvenience which it caused. IMRA Committee |
