Jerome DupuyJul 23 2014, 9:36amRE Lugnaquilla 26 July race

Hi everyone,

Is anybody driving from Dublin city center / Dublin South to the race on Saturday morning ?

If so please let me know if you could offer me a lift.

Thanks,

Jerome
Brendan LawlorJul 23 2014, 2:47pmIs this race going to go ahead - there's no Race Director?
Brendan LawlorJul 23 2014, 2:58pmRe Lug race this Saturday

Is this race going to go ahead - there's no Race Director?
Jerome DupuyJul 23 2014, 10:26pmI hope so Brendan. Hopefully someone could step in for this race i.e. The Leinster leg of the Irish Championship.
Cheers
Pierre OLIVIERJul 24 2014, 8:27amI could probably step in as a race director if required. What would I commit to ?
Dermot MurphyJul 24 2014, 1:51pmI will put my name down as deputy Race director and help the race director - Pierre - do you still want to take it on?
Nothing required in advance - Race Equipment and prizes are all in hand. Will talk to you on the morning to go through what is needed - I, and the other volunteers, can help with registration and we will organise the finish as well.
I am going to set up a new topic called Log na Coille - please post any updates to that topic.
Dermot MurphyJul 24 2014, 1:54pmLooks like this Carpool event is already linked to the Log na Coille event - any chance the Mods can change the Topic to Log na Coille?
Brían O'MearaJul 24 2014, 2:00pmWhat time do you want summit marshal there for? Presume I'll have to head off at least an 90 mins before the race starts.
Dermot MurphyJul 24 2014, 2:05pmHi Brian - will meet you at Fentons at 11:30 - can the rest on the volunteers be there for 11:40 - with registration to open at 11:45am?
Ruth LynamJul 24 2014, 3:11pmDo you need any more non-running volunteers. I'm injured and can't run, but can walk so could do marshalling or anything else unskilled
Dermot MurphyJul 24 2014, 3:19pmThanks Ruth - all help appreciated if you can. I haven't had a chance yet to go through exactly who will be doing what - apart from Brian as Summit marshal - but will will have roles sorted out by 11:45. If any volunteers will be arriving a bit later than this, just let me know.
Pierre OlivierJul 24 2014, 6:45pmHey Dermot, could you give me a ring to discuss the race? I am happy to take it on as a race director yet I am unsure as to what it implies. 0872321211 - tonight or tomorrow if possible? Cheers !
Dermot MurphyJul 25 2014, 8:32amJust a few points to note for tomorrow:

1) Make sure you have a raincoat with you as it may be compulsory kit - possible showers tomorrow on the current forecast.
2) Please bring water with you as well. If its warm, I will be recommending that you bring water with you (but it will not be compulsory) - but at least have a bottle at the finish as IMRA will not be providing this.
3) Early start is 12:30 only for those who need it. Please let me know at registration if you are taking the early start and remember that you will need to register before 12:10 in order to make it to the start line in time.
4) Parking - please try and car pool as much as possible. If you are parking on the road, please make sure you are not causing an obstruction.
5) I plan to have registration open by 11:45 and closed at 12:30 sharp. Registration is at Fenton's pub

If anyone has any other questions, please ask on the forum if possible (other people may need to know as well), or just ask me in the morning.
I notice there is no map of the route in the map section. There is a route map on the 2010 events page (and early years). Can the Mods add the map details, please?
Aoife JoyceJul 25 2014, 3:29pmIs there anyone going to Lug tomorrow who could collect the laptop to bring to Glendalough for the Derrybawn race on Wednesday?
Thanks Aoife
Dermot MurphyJul 25 2014, 3:34pmAoife, Karen who is the lap top operator for Wednesday, currently has the lap top. She aims to make it out to Lug as well to cover the weekend race, but she will have it for sure for Wednesday.
Aoife JoyceJul 25 2014, 8:30pmThat's great Dermot. Thanks
Dermot MurphyJul 26 2014, 8:25pmWell done to Tom Blackburn and Marie Masterson on their win at todays race.
Thanks as well to all volunteers to helped out on the day - some were drafted in on the day itself!
Conditions were good for the race, with the underfoot conditions particulary dry. Unfortunately the mist on top caused quite a few to go astray - however everyone eventually made it back safe and sound - first aid man John Moore said there were no injuries to report, which is always good to hear.
Finally thanks to Fentons for providing the sandwiches - much appreciated by all!
John CondonJul 26 2014, 8:27pmA massive thanks to Dermot and volunteers for a great race. Above and beyond the call of duty today I'd say.
Glad all runners made it down safe and sound.
Martin BroganJul 27 2014, 2:01pmWell done to the organisers and volunteers for a great day, the mist certainly added to the drama . If anyone found a pair of trek trousers yesterday could you please let me know
Brían O'MearaJul 27 2014, 9:37pmAs Ed Viesturs has said on mountaineering, and no doubt he was talking about the IMRA Lug race when he said it, ‘it’s not the getting up, it’s the getting down that counts!’ Below is my list of those that made the top to the nearest minute.

69 runners summitted. Runners appeared out of the cloud from all directions from the South to South-West, so it’s debatable how much use the marking on the summit plateau was. Only one runner that I noticed stopped at the top to take a bearing before resuming the descent.

For the summit times, I only have to the nearest minute, not the second. Runners are listed by number according to the order in which they touched the Trig point. I’ve missed two of the early starter’s numbers, but apart from that, I think I got most of the numbers correct – apologies if there are one or two mistakes.

Early Starters:
1326- 1777
1327- early starter
1328- early starter
1329- 207

Pól Ó MurchúAug 1 2014, 12:06amResults up now. Apologies for the delay...

Again a massive thanks to Karen Devenney for her help with results/ laptop over the last few weeks. Fantastic job.
Mick HanneyAug 1 2014, 10:04pmAny race reports from the front or from the wanderers in the mist?

The mist made visibility difficult and I daresay was unexpected to most.

Thanks to the volunteers up and down the mountain for their help and perserverence.

I'm not a good navigator but I made a pre-race note of the heading to take up and down. The race markings were welcome but the mist was so thick that it was difficult to see from marking to marking. The way up was reasonably straightforward. On the way down I took a precautionary pause before I charged into the mist. I was about to consult the compass for a heading when I saw a queue of runners emerging from the mist on their ascent, so I took this as my direction heading for the descent and I was happy to see marking after marking on my downward trek as well as the odd shadowy figure emerging on an upward course, with random walkers going the other way. In a way I was probably lucky, others were less so, but did they have a compass and map in reserve just in case?

Love love loved the downward run towards and from Camarahill. On a day like this after a bout of hot weather it is dry, bouncy and fast and it can make the slowest of us momentarily fast.

Thanks again to Dermot and volunteer crew.
John J BarryAug 2 2014, 2:50pmCongratulations to Barry Minnock on his 100th IMRA race.
