Route Description:

This is an extension of the old route, and was first used in the 2010 race. The race now starts near the lower Ballinastoe car park and joins the Wicklow Way in Ballinastoe forest near the old start point. The route no longer takes the short cut after crone woods up towards the An Oige Hostel, but instead remains on the Wicklow Way through the entire Glencree area. This has the affect of increasing the length of the race to about 25km, and adding about 200m of extra climb at the start.

A Google Earth KML file of the route is available here. If you have Google Earth installed on your computer you can download this file and use it to explore the route.

Organisers Instructions:

Please note that the entry fee for this race will be 20 Euros. If you have not run any other race this year then you will also have to pay the 10 Euro IMRA annual registration fee.

Registration for this race will be at the overflow carpark in Johnny Foxes pub. Registration will begin at 9:45am and close at 11:15am. There will be no registration available at the race start itself. The cost of the event includes a contribution towards the hire of a bus from here to the race start (Which is why the Trail race is more expensive than the Ultra). In order to guarantee your seat on the bus please use the carpool booking system. You are not guaranteed a seat on the bus unless you do this.

There will be cut off times imposed for this race. These will be:

  1. Crone Woods Car Park: 14:45
  2. Curtlestown Car Park: 15:30

Kit Requirements: A raincoat, hat and gloves will be required to be carried by all runners.

Volunteers (Non-Running)

You need to have done 2 non-running volunteer roles in a calendar year to qualify for end of year prize

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
