For the purpose of scoring for the Irish Championships, only competitors who have already completed at least one other Irish Championship race will receive Irish Championship points for this race. This means that there will be no dilution of results caused by a large number of local runners.

As with all Irish Championship races, competitors will need to bring the following mandatory kit to the race and be prepared to carry it. The race director will, on the day specify what needs to actually be carried.

Slieve Donard is the highest mountain in Northern Ireland at 2796 feet and together with the neighbouring peak of Slieve Commedagh (2515 feet) it dominates the skyline above the coastal town of Newcastle in County Down. The race has previously been a British Championship event in 1997, 1999 and 2004 and many championship contenders will therefore be familiar with it. As one of the classic Mourne races it has also featured in the Northern Ireland Championship on many occasions.

Volunteers (Running)

Check with race director if they have a need for people volunteering and running. Race directors need a minimum number of people available throughout the race to make the race work so non-running volunteers are preferable. While it can be helpful, volunteering in a volunteer and race capacity does not count towards qualifying for end of year prize
