1000 Native Trees Planted by IMRA Members
Wednesday February 21 - Miriam Maher
Over the past year our members have planted almost a thousand native trees, as part of our efforts to utilise the carbon offset contributions made by IMRA members.Members can do their bit for the environment by paying a carbon offset contribution of €1, €10, or €25. The option to purchase can be found on the online shop.
Last year, 450 native trees were planted on land owned by Wicklow Wolf Brewery, and on 3rd February this year, another 500 native trees were planted on Carrigoona Commons, Kilmacanogue, Bray, Co. Wicklow.
A huge amount of IMRA members (and their children as free child labour) took part, which was fantastic to see.
Wicklow County Council provided a grant towards this project, the charity, Easie Treesie, sponsored the trees and IMRA paid for the tree guards and stakes which is necessary to stop the deer from destroying all our hard work.
We hope to continue with similar projects like this next year and ongoing in the following years.
A special word of thanks to Angela Flynn and her family for organizing and for feeding and watering the masses in their own home afterwards, and to Paul McRedmond, Stephan Claude, Robert Moore and James Cullinane.
Most IMRA Members are very eco-aware, and it is fantastic to see the appetite for climate action amongst the membership.
