Weekly training run on Ticknock - meeting Mondays @ Taylors

AuthorDateMessage
Barry MinnockOct 4 2007, 12:58pmLast year we had a successful winter weekly training run meeting at Taylors 3 Rock & going up Kilmashogue lane, up to Fairy and back to Taylors (with a few variations).

It is almost that time of year again & so would like to start again from this Monday (8th Oct) - meeting at either:
- 6:45pm at Taylors 3 Rock pub
- 7pm at Kilmashogue underpass (sharp!)

Times may be subject to change and I will update forum if they do, but we'll try those to start ...

These are not official IMRA runs and are therefore have no insurance coverage.

All welcome, so long as you bring a head torch. Mobile also a very good idea for safety reasons. There are several route options - varying from safe & easy on the main trails to difficult if you go up to fairy castle. Normally we have at least 2 groups & you can go with one to suit your taste for adventure.
Peter O'FarrellDec 5 2007, 6:55pmEvery Monday (except Dec 17th) till the sun comes back we meet at 7pm at the M50 underpass at the bottom of Kilmashogue Lane for a run up to the 3 rock masts and back to Taylors.
All welcome
Niall SomersDec 19 2007, 2:32pmhi - I know your previous post reads "All Welcome" - I have zero experience trail running, bar some technically easy runs around Leadmines/Scalp. I do a bit of road running, mainly distance 5 -15k..Is ther a slow group and a fast group on Monday evenings?
Barry MinnockDec 19 2007, 2:48pmThe Monday runs are at a very easy pace - nothing stressful. There will always be someone to run with.

Headtorch & mobile are a good idea for the journey.

I expect there to be a break now until 7th Jan. Perhaps we should change the location on the last Monday of every month? Djouce was a massive success - an absolutely fantastic evening!
Niall SomersDec 19 2007, 4:57pmCool - Thanks for the response.sorry 2 more stupid questions. Does the run stay on the fireroad all the way to the masts, then back down on tarmac?so trail shoes vs road shoes?...oh and headtorch - any of the cheaper ones here do the job?

Thanks

niamh ni cholmainDec 19 2007, 5:03pmI find the Tikka for 32.50 good.
Jackie ODec 19 2007, 5:54pmNiall
I have the Tikka too and while generally OK I do find it hard to see more than just 2 feet in front of me in poor visibility. Depends on whether you think you'd want a stronger light but it might be worth paying a wee bit more for better visibility.

As for the sessions, I am by no means fast so if I can do them so can you. Finally re shoes, the Ticknock run is mainly on trail so road shoes would do but others may be more off-road and trail runners might be better! Prob best to have both at the ready! :)
Niall SomersDec 20 2007, 9:32amThanks all for the replies -

Should be out early in the New Year.Cheers
Peter O'FarrellJan 3 2008, 11:46amHappy New Year Niall,

Peter O'FarrellNov 10 2008, 4:17pmEvery Monday (except Christmas time) till the sun comes back we meet at 7pm at the M50 underpass at the bottom of Kilmashogue Lane for a run up to the 3 rock masts and back to Taylors.
All welcome and the more the merrier for the pupposes of matching folk who wish to run at similar speeds and also matching of folk who wish to add in some offroad up Fairy Castle. Staying on the fireroads roadshoes are fine.
John MacEnri is our spiritual leader who has kept the flame alive these past few weeks.
Stephen McMullanNov 12 2008, 12:27pmWas that you that we passed in the dark last Monday Peter? Myself and Donal O'Connor were coming down the track as the well equipped headtorched IMRA runners were heading up the hill.

Of course we cheated and started from the carpark at the top of Kilmashogue lane.

Might join ye when we get a bit fitter :-)
Peter O'FarrellNov 12 2008, 5:10pmHi Steve,

3 groups all came through the underpass last night in and around 7pm.

The AR warriors swept through in tight formation with nary a backward glance for their meeker trailrunning IMRA friends, our glorious leader Paul Kelly had Jackie O'Hagan for company and the bedrock of Monday running, John MacEnri, deigned to allow me join his company this time.

That's three different pace groups for you to go with thus far :)

cheers,
peter
Michael DeasyNov 13 2008, 1:29pmPeter, what is the route terrain like? Thinking of going on Monday but won't bring the trail shoes if it's all road.
Peter O'FarrellNov 13 2008, 2:35pmRoad Shoes are fine for the usual route which is a mixture of tarmac and foresty road.
If you include Fairy Castle trail shoes would be better.

cheers,
Peter
