Miriam Maher | Aug 4 2025, 6:51pm | I'm really looking forward to heading to Sligo for this lovely route next Saturday. Has a bit of everything going on in it and hopefully we will get the fantastic views too. As this is a charity fundraiser, for Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue, even if you can't make the race, purchasing a race entry will act as your donation. 100% of race entries for any IMRA event designated as a charity race goes towards the chosen charity. Thanks Miriam |
Turlough Conway | Aug 5 2025, 10:01am | Thanks a million for that Miriam and for the committee for making this a fundraiser again for Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue. The Mountain Rescue folk have our backs all over the country. Purchasing a race entry (even if not racing) will go a ways to helping this voluntary group. Last year they tragically lost a member Octavius 'Ocky' Job on an accident on benbulben. Ocky was a new recruit to IMRA NW and so one of our own too. From Team Leader Derek Tiernan said they are "Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue are very grateful for the continued support from IMRA West. We are entirely voluntarily organisation providing 24/7 Rescue to all of counties Sligo and Leitrim, and further afield. Anyone who gets into difficulty in the hills and mountains can request our assitance on 999/112. Donations from this event will continue to assist our team and we want to wish the organisers and runners a great day." |

Eamonn Hodge | Aug 5 2025, 7:34pm | Is anyone heading from Dublin on Saturday morning? Don't need a lift back. Was also thinking of heading on Friday (train) but no room at Strandhill Nest Hostel. |
Turlough Conway | Aug 5 2025, 8:12pm | Strandhill Camping site might be an option too. Buses every half hour from Sligo-Strandhill |
Eamonn Hodge | Aug 6 2025, 3:48pm | I'm sorted Turlough, thanks. |
Turlough Conway | Aug 9 2025, 5:21pm | Well done to Eoin, Ruth and volunteering team today. Weather held off and it was a great end to the season. Great to have Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue looking afterwards and thanks to all who entered in support of them for that fundraiser. Well done to Mari Johnson and Alan Dunne on their league wins. We will have all the category winners finalized soon and prizes will be presented during a social in September, date to be confirmed. |
Miriam Maher | Aug 9 2025, 5:57pm | Hands down my favourite race route on the IMRA calendar. For the second year running, the weather was fabulous, showcasing the spectacular backdrop of mountains and sea all around us. Such an enjoyable and fun route. The north west league volunteer team, led by Turlough Conway, have created a special group of races and Queen Maeve’s was the perfect one to end on. Thanks to Eoin, Ruth and co for putting on a super friendly and easy going but perfectly organised race for us all. That fact that it was a fundraiser for Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue added an extra special touch to it. Remembering their crew mate and friend, Ocky, whose first anniversary was recently. The best reason for a road trip in my books. ‘til next year. Miriam |
