Angus TynerFeb 11 2025, 4:28pmI looked at the course route today. Storm Darragh brought down a lot of trees and there has been no clear up to date. A 300m stretch of the route nearest the waterfall is blocked by windblow. Dozens of trees.

Of the rest of the route. 1 tree across the first loop and numerous (mainly small trees) trees across path along side river until you get to the main obstruction. In my opinion no reasonable bypass/detour.
John BellFeb 12 2025, 10:36pmThanks for the head up Angus. I will get put for a recce soon to see if we can figure out an alternative route, but sounds like it will need to skip the river loop.
John BellMar 13 2025, 9:20pmThank you to all who have volunteered. We now have enough volunteers for this event.
Gareth LittleMar 14 2025, 11:13amHi John, will there be a junior course or short course for this event? Thx
John BellMar 17 2025, 9:18amHi Gareth, yes we will have a short course. It will be one of the loops and about 4k long.
Ruairí FlynnMar 17 2025, 2:32pmHi John, was out today and the red route by the river is still closed and full of blow downs. First loop (heaney) seems clear though.
John BellMar 19 2025, 9:34pmThe event page has been updated with the new route that avoids the blocked lower river path. The Short / Junior route is the upper loop at 4k long.

Reminder to please car pool as there is limited car parking in the forest and it will be shared with the general public. If the car park fills up please be considerate where you park so as to not cause an obstruction and listen to the marshals.
John BellMar 19 2025, 10:01pmVolunteers, I've sent you an email using your address on your profile. If you didn't get it you can get me on jbell@outlook.ie

See you there.
Caoimhin MacMaolainMar 24 2025, 10:49amThanks very much John, Peter, Sean and all of the volunteers for organising such a great race at Devil's Glen. To have carved that course out of an area where so many trees are down and river access denied was some achievement.
Keelin HolmesMar 24 2025, 5:24pmThank you everyone for a great event yesterday! It was the first race my children took part it, so lots of excitement! They were mad for the tea and ssmbos after and Cormac was delighted with his raffle prize! Thanks Keelin, Cormac , Roisin and Pearse !
Barry MinnockMar 25 2025, 9:33amJust to echo words of thanks. I was wondering why we took the upper path - on running the lower path during cool-down it became clear. So much destruction. Excellent route, excellent organisation, great to have trail races as part of calendar. Top quality event - thank you John & Co.
