The Maurice Mullins still has a no pole policy?
Andrew MooreJan 26 2025, 1:15pmApologies

I see it in race rules.

Also, can you delete forum post. I can't see an option.
Richard NunanJan 26 2025, 1:23pmHi Andrew,

We don't have the option to delete a forum post.
But I'll start a new one on MMU once I get all updated.

Thanks and see you on the hills soon.
Andrew MooreJan 27 2025, 7:20amThanks Richard,

:)
Eoin McDonnellJan 31 2025, 7:56amHi Richard,

Sorry to repeat a question, I know a few people who are away on either the 22nd or 29th. Is the race definitely the 22nd?

Thanks
Richard NunanJan 31 2025, 8:16amHi Eoin,

Apologies for the confusion. The event will now go ahead on the 29th of March due to logistical challenges.

I will update the events page tonight. Entries will open Monday.

Thanks

Rich
Niamh FitzpatrickJan 31 2025, 8:40amGlad to hear race is guaranteed for the 29th March. Thanks for confirming
Richard NunanFeb 1 2025, 9:27amGreat to hear you will make it Niamh along with more of the crew I hope.

Couple of small points.

Entry's will open tomorrow morning 2nd of Feb
The race is not a Qualifier this year for the Euros.
There will not be an early start- the start time has been moved back and the Cutoffs moved forward to accommodate this. It's based on last years times.
We will not be including Maulin on the way out or the way back. HURRAH!
Brian KitsonFeb 1 2025, 3:58pmLooking forward to it. The entry fee is set to €30. Why the price increase? It was €25 last year (just €20 in 2021).
Richard NunanFeb 2 2025, 9:06amMorning Entries are now open.

Brian - first price increase in 7 years.

Price increase is to cover the increase in price of mugs (due to material costs and electricity) that have iteratively increased by a euro year on year over (4 euro) and we will have those delicious Gourmet Hot Dogs (7 euro) for everyone, you may have missed them last year.

Thanks
Eoin McDonnellFeb 2 2025, 10:00am30 euro is very reasonable for a 50km
Dave EvansFeb 2 2025, 10:39am30 euros is unbelievably reasonable these days for an ultra Eoin

MMU is and always has been the best value for money ultra race in Ireland.
Andreas MalyFeb 2 2025, 3:21pmPrice is really fair compared to other events. Races are always very well organized.
Alistair HodgettFeb 2 2025, 4:53pmNo Maulin, one start time...all great stuff. Any chance that some of those Gourmet Hot Dogs are vegetarian :)
Richard NunanFeb 2 2025, 5:10pmAlastair, we had Veggie and Vegan last year. Will work on the same this year.

It's All to race for :-)
Ger OTooleFeb 11 2025, 7:25amHi, I can’t seem access the links to the maps in the race description (maybe an issue with my phone), but wonder if it is possible to check if the links are working properly. Thank you.
Andrew ReynoldsFeb 17 2025, 8:36pmhello, what OS map covers the route if i wanted to buy an actual paper map?
Richard NunanFeb 17 2025, 10:13pmAndrew, you can pickup a Map of tye wicklow way online OSI 56 has the route from Glen Cullen Hill to Pier Gates. So missing about 1km at start.
Richard BarnwallFeb 21 2025, 2:34pmHi,
The MM is my first IMRA race of 2025.
I have paid for the annual membership as part of the race entry as per the new system for 2025.
Just wondering if I should have received my race number for the year?
Or will I get this on the morning of the race?
Thanks a mil
Looking forward to it :)

Got the info I need from you link.
Johnston KirkpatrickFeb 21 2025, 9:03pmHi Eoin is there overnight parking close to the start line for a van ?
Angela FlynnFeb 22 2025, 1:30amJohnston, you can park at our house A98EP93 if you don’t get a better offer, I’ll be doing the ultra too hopefully, Ange
Richard NunanFeb 22 2025, 7:53amJust below the Pier Gates, there is a lay by where you could park over night. It was done last year.

Also room for a van parked at the Pier Gates.
Robert WarmanFeb 22 2025, 11:32amIs the eastwestmapping Wicklow Way Guide acceptable as a map for the mandatory kit? (https://eastwestmapping.ie/product/the-wicklow-way-2/)
Thanks
Elva DonnellyFeb 24 2025, 11:39amHi Richard, added myself as First Aid officer but happy to be a reserve on that and can do whatever else needed as volunteer pre race if needed? wasn't sure if having few FA worth having.

Emma StuartMar 23 2025, 12:27pmHi, is anyone from Sligo running the Maurice Mullins who would be willing to pick up the women's trophy from my parents' house please?
It's only a couple of miles from the town on the Manorhamilton road!
Thanks,
Emma
Daniel MorkanMar 24 2025, 9:32amWill I need to organise for someone to pick up my bag after I have used it at the bag drop area. Thanks
Richard NunanMar 24 2025, 10:27amHi Daniel, a drop bag should be a plastic bag with a few items like gels and Bananas etc you may need for the way back. We will dispose of anything that gets left behind at the bridge. (its over half way that point 27km) Ideally you wouldn't send anything that you would need someone to pickup.

Drop bags will be collected by Lillian at race start and transported there on your behalf.
Daniel MorkanMar 25 2025, 2:29pmThanks a million
Brinsley PowellMar 25 2025, 4:31pmHi there. Is there possibility of late race entries (plans have changed and am in the country).

More than happy to message person of contact directly.
Richard NunanMar 25 2025, 8:37pmCARPOOLING Reminder for Saturdays race

Please aim to share lifts if possible or avail of the Carpool facility on the bottom of the page to reduce the volume of cars arriving at PierGates.
Darren CroweMar 26 2025, 6:43amHi, I’m not familiar with the parking area. Is it safe to assume there is something secure to lock a bicycle to near the start/ registration. Staying nearby so it’s the easiest way for me to travel.
Eiviltas Evan RadaviciusMar 26 2025, 8:25amGood Morning,

Can I assume there will be no water at Boranaraltry lane?
Richard NunanMar 26 2025, 8:44amGood morning,

We will have water at Boranaraltry lane, at the turn before Glen Cullen bridge. We have water containers you can fill from.

Darren, you could lock your bike to the fence near registration. We will not be there between 9:30 and 12:30. It is a car park used by hikers.
Ewoud Van GinderachterMar 26 2025, 10:22pmHi,

Any other carpools going on from Milltown area?
I'm flexible to come anywhere Dublin area.
Some changes made that I don't have the car available.

Thanks in advance!
Andrew MooreMar 27 2025, 11:13amQuestion on water/aid stations

For the race, are the aid stations only water?

Thanks for responding.
Martin StevensonMar 27 2025, 1:55pmAny suggestion for shoes mud or rock
Brinsley PowellMar 27 2025, 4:50pmJust following up on my prior message regarding late entries.
Eamonn HodgeMar 27 2025, 5:07pmHi Brinsley, sorry there's no late entries for any IMRA races.
Richard NunanMar 27 2025, 9:05pmAndrew - Aid stations are water ONLY

Bring a drop bag to the start line and we will transport it to the half way point.
Ger OTooleMar 27 2025, 10:54pmHi, is there water at Crone Wood on both directions?
Richard NunanMar 28 2025, 8:19amMorning,

Water at Half way and coming back to Crone ONLY. Nothing on the way out. You will need 2 *500 Mils heading out.
Ger OTooleMar 28 2025, 9:05amThanks Richard.
Eiviltas Evan RadaviciusMar 28 2025, 9:27amSorry to be a bug bear, but you will want more than 1 litre of water to get you to 27kms.

Any chance we could get some final clarification on the water stations as it's crucial to have the right amount of water at the right time.

Race brief says water is at 17km at Crone. Richard's comment seems to be contradicting this.

Could we update the race brief so we're all clear how much do we need to bring from the start?
Richard NunanMar 28 2025, 3:28pmApologies - as per event page. Water will be provided at 17km in Crone on way out. My brain was in previous years this morning where it would have been 11km into the race. Stick with the email and the event details page.
Richard NunanMar 28 2025, 3:37pmMANDATORY KIT UPDATE:

The weather is very changeable on the hills. We were on Djouce this morning in the Sun, Hailstones and very strong winds. We struggled to stay upright on the boardwalks. We met a few who diverted from going up Djouce.

Please bring to registration:

Waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams
Hat or buff
Gloves
Whistle
Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored
Foil blanket, bivvy bag or equivalent
Waterproof full leg cover
Means to carry a minimum of 500 mL water
Emergency food

You will not be allowed race without this gear - so please do not turn up without it. We had to turn away two runners last year.

Don't forget your number if you got it from a previous race, else you will collect it in the morning.
Marco ZaminatoMar 28 2025, 7:28pmHello Everyone,

I'm having a transportation issue.
Is anyone traveling from Dublin who could give me a lift? I'm located in Dublin 3, but I'm flexible and can meet at a more convenient spot for you.

Brian hutchinsonMar 29 2025, 4:26pmAnother cracking MMU - massive thanks to Richard and all the volunteers for making it so enjoyable and delivering it all with panache! Those sausage rolls are something else by the way! Thanks.
Shane ArrowsmithMar 29 2025, 5:36pm+1 on the brilliant event, race directoring and volunteers.
+100 on the quality of the finish line cuisine. Loved that!

Thanks a mill to everyone that made the race so fun.
Sean ForsythMar 29 2025, 6:59pmThanks very much Richard..the route is a real tester and I still hate the addition of Djouce..it's just cruel.

Volunteers at both start and turn around were fantastic as usual and full of encouragement.

My fellow runners were also brilliant, well done to everyone.

I love my mug and the sausage roll
James HeggieMar 29 2025, 7:10pmSome race today , the last bit of Djoice was just
Brutal in the eye of the storm . Thank you Richard and all the team it was some day allright . Arrived a bit late for the sausage rolls must get back faster next year !! The cup is lovely so happy they are back .

Theresa CunninghamMar 29 2025, 8:36pmThank you all so very much for a wonderful event! Beautiful mug and food ! Congratulations to everyone who took part
Robert WarmanMar 29 2025, 8:43pmI’d like to echo the comments about the amazing (but brutal) event & the wonderful organisers and volunteers and also give special mention to the guy who was helping out on Djouce in the gale - I felt a lot safer & happier that there was someone there keeping an eye on us (albeit that he must be completely mad for doing it in the first place!).
Johnny McKinleyMar 29 2025, 9:11pmThank you IMRA crew, we had a great day out, thank you to all the marshals who sat out all day and your encouragement, the mugs are mighty and better than any medal. Who new that vegan sausage rolls tasted so nice?? Next year...
Eiviltas Evan RadaviciusMar 29 2025, 9:37pmThanks to all the volunteers and crew. Great race and great cheer and support. Great day for the parish
Brian HouriganMar 29 2025, 9:56pmWhat a fantastic race. My favourite IMRA race yet. Enjoyable, punishing and brutal at the same time. Thanks to all the volunteers and participants for a memorable day. Thanks to all those aling the way who chatted with me and kept my spirits up. Special mentions to Nora for the paracetamol and the gent who wasn't in the race but ran with me when I was in the depths of despair before crone on the way back and up djouce too

Fanny GardynMar 29 2025, 11:37pmSuper event as always. Thanks to everyone involved.
Richard NunanMar 30 2025, 10:01amWell done to everyone who took part in yesterdays Maurice Mullins. It was great to see so many friends from all parts of the country, its like a annual gathering with people from all over Ireland and as far as Australia. He was very appreciative of the sausage roll and his Mug. Thanks to everyone for making the trip !

The weather played Havoc as usual, especially on Djouce on the way back. I did laugh at the people who said it was warm at Glencullen Bridge. Great atmosphere and we were Delighted to have everyone home safe yesterday at 6:00pm. As usual we tested a few changes with Starts, Timing and all worked really well. This is largely thanks to the fantastic team of Volunteers who have supported you all this week and yesterday to make a great day possible.

Thanks to Miriam, Lillian and Kate for the craziness of a long long day. (We were wrecked!) To Laura, Brendan, Paul, Stephen, Sorcha and Hilary at the start. To Hilary Jenkinson for the Awesome Mugs !

To the halfway Crew, Alice and her system, Paul and Sile for looking after everyone with water, food and encouragement. To Neil and of course to Nicola who landed in with the sausage roles and a smile ! Fab! A super day was had by everyone and thanks so much for the feedback as thats what makes us tick! IMRA Abu!

Richard NunanMar 30 2025, 10:11amSpecial Thanks again to Niall Davis from Biking.ie - This year and last year he saved our skins providing us with the use of his Mobile Truck - and still ran in the day !
Ger OTooleMar 30 2025, 8:37pmA big thank you to the organisers and volunteers. A super event, despite how tough it was.
Rachel HarneyMar 30 2025, 9:13pmThanks so much for a fantastic event yesterday! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Mark SmithMar 30 2025, 9:22pmWhat a great day out. Thanks to race organisers and volunteers. Special thanks to Kate at the half way point. Amazing job. The value and standard of this race is something uniquely Irish. The second climb of djouce had me questioning my “why” but the sausage roll sorted that when I got over the line.
Niall DuffyMar 31 2025, 11:27amHuge thanks to the organisers and volunteers on the day. A fantastic event. Looking forward to next year and repeat the misery of that second climb of Djouce!
Joanna Wheeler ConnonMar 31 2025, 11:43amThank you so much to all the volunteers for their hard work, it was a very well organised event and a great day out!
Richard BarnwallMar 31 2025, 12:24pmThank you very much to all the hard work done by the organisers & volunteers. It was a fantastic event.
Paul NesbittMar 31 2025, 12:29pmSuperb day out all. Thanks so much for all the hard work put in by you Richard & all the volunteers. You were all amazing. That sausage roll though...
Niamh DreaMar 31 2025, 1:53pmThank you for a great day. The hard work of the volunteers is much appreciated, even trudging up Djouce. It was my first IMRA experience and I couldn't have had a better day. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next day out in the hills.
Angela FlynnMar 31 2025, 2:41pmA massive thank you to Richard and all the crew for a brilliantly managed event. A long day for all the volunteers and it is much appreicated.

On a separate note - in reference to the race report by Niall Davis

I too would like to lodge an objection to the devious underhand strategy of Sean Meehan high fiving runners as they passed him. The strategy was particularly annoying as this runner felt even more outraged by the fact of Sean ability to mention said runner by NAME as he high fived me …hrrump.. a clear breach of IMRA rules -being able to think as well as run -…like how?
Really enjoyed the race report Niall - I am still laughing and Sean, well bloody done to you!
Jamie Martin-GraceMar 31 2025, 3:05pmIs there a lost and found? I only realized today I forgot to collect my 1/2way drop bag after the race which has my spare runners in it.

Super event and day out!
Caroline ReidMar 31 2025, 5:02pmMassive thanks to Richard, Miriam and the great team of volunteers for a fantastic day out. Your time and enthusiasm was much appreciated! And to all the participants for the encouragement and high fives, great memories to last a life time :) Well done all!
Máiréad O' KeeffeMar 31 2025, 10:42pmThanks so much to Richard and all the fantastic volunteers everyone wad so kind and helpful much appreciated brilliant day
