First Aid

ciara largeyJan 6 2025, 7:43pmJust wondering if IMRA are holding any First Aid courses in the next few months? I was specifically looking for REC 1 or 2.
Alan AylingJan 8 2025, 12:09pmWe will look to arrange First Aid training in the Leinster area over the coming couple of months, providing there is enough interest.

As before, the expectation will be that IMRA will cover the cost; anyone who gets the training will commit to taking on at least TWO First Aid Officer volunteer roles at IMRA races during the two-year validity of their cert. We'll be asking for that commitment to begin with volunteering for ONE race later in the year; before the training, candidates should volunteer for FA at a race between the training date and the year end.

Could anyone looking to take the training on that basis please email me to register your interest? safety at imra dot ie

First come first served. Course will have limited (probably max 12) places; we'll need to fill at least 8 to make it worthwhile. Likely to be a one day course, to take place in Dublin/Wicklow area.
Olwyn SheehanJan 8 2025, 2:29pmHi Alan, I tried to register my interest to do a first aid course via safety@imra.ie but error message returned saying email address not found. So can I register my interest here? olwynsheehan@gmail.com thanks, Olwyn
Brendan LawlorJan 8 2025, 4:37pmHi

Can I be added too.. safety@ email address not working
Alan AylingJan 8 2025, 4:39pmYes it appears the safety at email address is currently not working. I'll ask our IT gurus to work their dark magic. Will advise here when ready. Please keep an eye on this post if interested. Cleaner if I take the expressions of interest via email than on the forum. Thanks.
Eoin KeithJan 8 2025, 5:35pmThe Safety email address should be working again now!
Kevin LambeJan 8 2025, 5:46pmJust coming back to this, where is the safety email address, I can't find it
Alan AylingJan 8 2025, 6:04pmShould be working again now.

Alan AylingJan 9 2025, 10:47amThe 12 available places are now filled, as well as a few waiting on a reserve list, so no more applications please.
Anyone who has applied should have an email back from me, including those on reserve list.
Many thanks to all who applied. Really encouraging to see this enthusiasm, so many interested in a short time window. The spirit of volunteering is alive and kicking.

Worth noting - anyone with a SUITABLE First Aid qualification can volunteer as First Aid Officer for an IMRA race; it doesn't have to be from an IMRA-provided course. Suitable qualification would be any REC or EFR, EMT, paramedic etc. Should be current (not expired). We look for something with an outdoor relevance; our responses may be on the side of a hill, in the cold, etc. So not FAR (Occupational First Aid).
Any questions just ask on here or email the safety at imra dot ie address.
Graham K. BusheFeb 22 2025, 8:38pmA big Thanks to Paul Nolan, of mountain rescue, for a great first aid course today. A lot of material covered, easy to understand and plenty of practical work.
Thanks to imra for providing the course and to all those who attended, bringing their own experiences.

Alice ClancyFeb 23 2025, 10:18amTo echo Graham, that was a really useful course yesterday- thank you Paul, Alan and the committee for organising….and for managing to arrange the lovely sunshine for the outdoor work too!
Elva DonnellyFeb 23 2025, 11:08amSuper day with a great gang of people eager to help keep ourselves and others well on the hills. Thanks to Alan for organising and Paul for the course. Here's to needing to use the skills as little as possible, but feeling confident and proactive when the inevitable tumbles occur.
Liam MooneyFeb 23 2025, 2:35pmThanks Paul, Alan and all participants on yesterday's course. Very engaging and informative. I would have to think twice though about whether I'd treat a cantankerous Brendan if he got injured in a race I was first aiding at!! :)
Brendan LawlorFeb 23 2025, 3:14pmI’d echo those comments. Paul Nolan brought very considerable knowledge and experience of outdoors first aid, mountain rescue in addition to his background as one of our champion hill runners and orienteers back in the day , to this one day first aid course. Thanks to Paul and Alan for organizing this very useful training .
Alan AylingFeb 24 2025, 10:04pmThanks for the great feedback lads, really pleased to hear you found the course useful and informative. One thing we can be sure of with Paul as the trainer is the course material will be RELEVANT to IMRA.
And thank you all for taking the time to do the course for the benefit of IMRA. Hopefully you will all get to enjoy some "quiet" races as First Aider... but if anything should happen it's good to know great, committed First Aiders are on hand.

Oh, and the secret pocket in the kit bag contains the horse tranquillisers, in case anyone needs to subdue a cantankerous Brendan ;-)
