Access, the Reeks and the World Championships

After the decades of races, the legendary achievements of John Lenihan, Beth McCluskey and others, no access to the highest range would surely be unique in Europe. As one Reeks veteran said to me, "if the organisation had only one race all year it should be Carrauntoohil". So the news that Richard Nunan and Eoin Keith are discussing the Reeks Skyline as a World Championship race is very exciting. Is the National Executive thinking about 2026? 2027? Is the Reeks Access Forum fully on board? Why did they refuse access to Munster IMRA but then approve the national organisation? When will the IC and Skyline races on the Reeks be restored? Perhaps the Communications Subgroup could keep us all informed with regular updates? What could possibly be more newsworthy than races, especially World Championship races, back on our highest mountains? Plus there is a lot of confusion around the Reeks issue. There was a suggestion here it was raised at the Munster AGM. Obviously that could not be correct as then it would have been the focus of the whole access debate at the subsequent national AGM, raised in the President's Address etc. A few paragraphs to clear all that up would be great. Thanks! |

I assume this will not be permanently but let see Best bet is to get the Bridia valley route back as it's off the beaten track and less known. Maybe by working with and encouraging and offering incentives! to the farmer involved it can be done. |
