Brendan Lawlor | Dec 4 2024, 11:11am | Solstice Run on Saturday 21st Dec at 7pm , route as in previous years Starting at Ballinastoe Car Park, head into the forest , take first right and then 400 m later take a left up to the fire break, keep going out onto the open mountain, head up with the forest fence (most of the forestry has been felled) on your left until you meet the Wicklow Way sleepers, head right up to White Hill and then onwards to the summit of Djouce, back the same way If you have to ask a lot of questions this probably isn't for you.If its your first time trying this, best to stick with someone who knows the route. After the run we will head to Kavanaghs pub in Roundwood for some Christmas cheer. Bring your own mince pies ! Splitters are more than welcome to organise morning runs, runs on different days and evenings etc etc -knock yourselves out. Please set up your own thread if thats the case Early starters or walkers please feel free to do your own thing. This is NOT an official IMRA event |
Brendan Lawlor | Dec 4 2024, 11:43am | UPDATE The Wicklow Way sleepers referenced in the route description have been replaced lower down by a new track |
Brendan Lawlor | Dec 18 2024, 8:26am | Weather and route both look fine for Saturday. See a few of you there hopefully |
Rachel Cinnsealach | Dec 18 2024, 11:31am | See you there. I'll be one of the early starters |
Elaine Casey | Dec 21 2024, 9:47am | What's the distance for this please? |
Brendan Lawlor | Dec 21 2024, 11:54am | Hi all The full route to Djouce summit and back is about 9km. But you can turn back at any stage. It will be windy up there tonight so be prepared. See you later |
Jim Fitzharris | Dec 21 2024, 5:38pm | James Higgins and I have just finished the Solstice “walk” on Djouce. We turned back at the end of the boardwalk. It was almost impossible to stand! It was also bitterly cold. The boardwalk was almost unusable for fear of being blown into a bog pool. Best of luck if you go but wrap up very well! |
Brendan Lawlor | Dec 22 2024, 7:46am | Well done to all who braved the windy conditions last night. And well done to the morning Solsticers on Fairy Castle, Sugarloaf and elsewhere. Happy Christmas everyone! |
