Liam Vines | Nov 19 2024, 8:50pm | Well, we are at the end of the Committee year… It has been a really interesting year for me as Race Coordinator. I got a real insight into how everything happens and also how much has to happen for a race to go ahead. I want to thank everyone who helped me during the year our League Coordinators all our Race Directors especially the first timers. It’s a big thing to take one but the rewards and the comments on the forum after can be lived on for weeks. Also, people who I just bounced ideas off to see was I mad or was something doable. We tried a few new things this year. Night Events and The Leinster Half Marathon League being the two big ones. Both were hugely successful and even more so massively enjoyable. We moved over to Digital prize vouchers doing away with the plastic cards and the packaging not going to save the world, but every small thing counts. I found out during the year that the secret to us all being able to stay racing in the mountains has very little to do with the mountains… It’s all about “THE FIELD” the parking field. If we don’t have parking, we don’t have a race simple as. Obviously, we need the mountains too and to have access to them is all about communication both asking and listening then trying to do the right thing. As poor as our summer was this year, we were still lucky that we had no long spells of rain. All races went ahead as planned well except for the Hen Harrier ones and I think this is where we did the right thing. But some day we will have to change a race route or venue or even cancel it altogether because of the weather it’s not if it’s when. My own personal highlights of the year were The Maulin Night Event because it was the first night event this end of the country and the fact that it was such a beautiful night. Paddy Holahan’s picture of all the lights heading down Maulin sums it all up. Also, Church Mountain one because of Liam’s legendary race briefing. Two because it was a plan that came together, I think Vivian and Joe might have been the only two there that had raced on Church in the past. It was NEW. I do have more plans, and I do hope to do this job for another year if you will have me… That’s my round up of the year, now back to me asking, telling and begging everyone to arrive to Crone for the Powerscourt Ridge on Saturday in full cars there is going to be supervised parking options away from Crone to meet up and travel together. Also, you can see there is going to be lots to discuss at the AGM turn up and have your say. Liam |
