Hellfire Spooky Night Challenge

AuthorDateMessage
Alan KennedySep 10 2024, 2:04pmI am ok for volunteers now for this event. The Glendalough Night Challenge on Fri 11th Oct needs more helpers so please consider signing up for that.
Alan KennedySep 19 2024, 2:57pmActually still need a First Aider for this event.

General helpers are ok for Hellfire as some extra volunteers are not currently listed but already confirmed.

And I see the Glendalough NC still needs a Laptop operator.
Dermot O'EidhneainOct 7 2024, 3:53pmAlan. I can do first aider for this event if needed.
Alan KennedyOct 7 2024, 5:04pmThanks Dermot, we need to get you cleared first so can you put yourself down as a volunteer so I will get your contact details and I will be in touch.
Dermot O'EidhneainOct 7 2024, 5:10pmVolunteered :)
Jean O'NeillOct 8 2024, 12:57amIs there a short course in this Hellfire race? There is a short one in Glendalough on Friday 11th.
Alan KennedyOct 8 2024, 8:42amHi Jean, no plans for a short course for this one. The course is just under 8km and the elevation is relatively low. This is more like a trail run.
Alan KennedyOct 10 2024, 10:38amThis event has enough volunteers now so please consider the two remaining races on the calendar, Powerscourt Ridge or Djouce Remembrance. Thanks to all those already accepted.
Alan AylingOct 15 2024, 10:04pmRoute map would appear to offer Howth-like potential for going the wrong way :-) Gonna be a good test of Lillian's brilliant new reflective signs!

Really looking forward to this, especially after last week's cracker in Glendalough. And this one offers cycling potential. Where be the pintses afterwards?
Alan KennedyOct 17 2024, 9:02amHa ha Alan, you are correct with the Howth vibes, and new signs or not if some people do not take a wrong turn I will be very disappointed. And in advance of the protests I was going to start a #SaveHellfire campaign but someone has already beaten me too it:

Warren SwordsOct 17 2024, 1:08pmThere's a great collection of all the spooky stories about the Hellfire at the link below.

Satan himself, giant black cats, burning men, it's all there.

Worth reading and keeping in mind as you run through the seriously terrifying woods at night.

Pat BreenOct 20 2024, 9:48amHi, do you know if it is still possible to enter? Thanks, Pat
Alan KennedyOct 20 2024, 10:49amThe shop for this event does not open until tomorrow morning so don’t worry no one has entered yet. And will be open all week until Friday.
Pat BreenOct 20 2024, 11:00amThanks Alan
Clare SullivanOct 20 2024, 9:19pmAre there any bonus points for fancy dress?!
Alan KennedyOct 21 2024, 7:25amHi Claire, Fancy Dress will be the theme but no bonus points I’m afraid but as there is no raffle there Will be prizes for the best dressed! Entry opens at 0900.
Alan KennedyOct 21 2024, 3:57pmReminder that car pooling is essential for this as it is a tight car park.
Local options are as follows:
1. Lidl - Oldcourt (note: closes at 2200)
2. Killakee viewpoint car park
3. The Merry Ploughboy pub
Unfortunately the pub had a function on so I was unable to book it for the afters. Option there is to park and get a lift or park and run thru Massey's Woods.

Please add your car to the Carpool section as Kevin has already done, thanks.

Mike WalkerOct 25 2024, 10:02pmThank you Alan, and all the spooky volunteers. That was a super fun run, especially the deer eyes reflecting the head torches & the view of the city. Thank you
Dave RyanOct 25 2024, 10:34pmWell done to all involved in this evening's Night Race.
Very enjoyable.
With all the twists and turns, the race markings and marshals, were spot on.
Well done Derek.
And as usual for an IMRA race, the race director, the first aiders, the providers of the post-run goodies, etc, were all at the of their game.
Gerry McGuinnessOct 25 2024, 10:37pmWell done,Woody, 1/2 the pixar crew, the 2 bannanas all the devil's and all Alan's contacts that left there house lights on in the Greater Dublin area for what was a great night out on the hills
Elaine CaseyOct 25 2024, 11:23pmThanks Alan and all the volunteers, definitely a contender for an annual race I think!
Rob TobinOct 25 2024, 11:25pmI tip my stetson to Sheriff Woody Alan and each of his Deputies. That was mighty.
Alan KennedyOct 25 2024, 11:40pmThanks all for the great feedback tonight, delighted all went went for my first event. As usual it’s a team effort and my team played a blinder. And the weather gods, like last week, also helped with a fantastic clear night.

First of the thank yous goes to the Prophet Vines for the great idea of the night Challenges. First with Crone, then the tough Glendalough and now Hellfire. Having been deputy already for Angela she helped me step up to RD and as ever Lillian was always on hand with advice whenever I asked.

Race marker Derek had a challenging job tonight and got it spot on. What you might not know is he made up all of the mountings himself for the new fluorescent signs. Marshals did a great job in making sure nearly everyone stayed on track and my crew in the car park and finish line were superb. And finally thanks to all who got dressed up and made it a fun event.
Andrew HanneyOct 25 2024, 11:43pmThat was absolutely brilliant. Great organisation, great route with a bit of everything. Well done to you all. Hellfire was sorely missing from the calendar and its super to have it back.

Unknown species:

Niamh MurphyOct 26 2024, 4:36pmThanks a million. First one in a while and the surprise was that it was so much fun - 10/10 commitment from volunteers! Sorry to not stick around for prize giving I wasn't feeling too good after- maybe too many trick or treats before!
Jim DurhamOct 26 2024, 5:45pmThanks for a great night run around the Hellfire Club. Unfortunately I seem to have missed a left turn somewhere and did my own variant of the course and so DNFd myself. However I don't see my name in the results. There is a DNF against member 923, while my number is 925. I don't know if that's a mistake or a coincidence.
Jeff SwordsOct 26 2024, 6:17pmResults published, thanks to Alan and Niall who had to collate them manually.
Any queries mail IMRAResults at gmail dot com

@Jim, looks like you're correct so I've updated that.
Jim DurhamOct 26 2024, 7:52pmThanks.
