Elaine Casey | Sep 6 2024, 11:13pm | Hi, does anyone know what the short distance is for this one? Thankd |
Andy Keeling | Sep 7 2024, 6:55am | Hi Elaine. Last year the short was 7.6k. I'd say it's going to be the same again. |
Brian Furey | Sep 7 2024, 4:13pm | Hi Elaine, Yes same 2 courses as last year The short course is the same one that was used for the Maulin night race back in the Spring. I'll update the race details in the coming weeks. Need to chat to committee make sure all ok. Will need more volunteers, more then last year as need more car parking marshals this year Thanks Brian |
Robbie Williams | Sep 7 2024, 7:03pm | Is there a junior course lads |
Brian Furey | Sep 7 2024, 7:30pm | I don't see why not Robbie. Will confirm on that. |
Brian Furey | Sep 8 2024, 9:40pm | As regards Junior course, the committee are going to consider options over the next few weeks but as off now we plan only to allow 15 years old and up to run. Juniors over 15 can run the short course (which will be 7kms) This race is very limited in parking. We had major issues last year with people parking and blocking people's house and also parking along the narrow road. This year there will be more parking marshalls to enforce parking. Please plan to car pool with other runners and friends that are racing. There are 4 good places to meet people to car pool from: 1. Location of AGM and food after race: Palmerston Rugby club Kilternan D18DC56. 2. Any of the Djouce woods car parks 3. Plucks in Kilmacanogue 4. Enniskerry village (public car park) There will be 3 race courses on the day: 1. Early long course 10.30 am 2. Long course 11.00 am 3. Short course 11.05 am ( or 5 mins after start of main course). Lilian has informed that AGM will be held in Palmerston Rugby club in Kilternan. We will also do prize giving and food there. Thanks, Brian |

Karl Bourne | Oct 22 2024, 5:21pm | Hi Brian - I plan to run this one but can help out as a running volunteer if you need me there earlier? Please let me know if needed. |
Brian Furey | Oct 22 2024, 6:00pm | Hi Karl yes a few more running volunteers are needed to. I'll add you in as volunteer. Thanks alot |
Richard Allan | Oct 22 2024, 6:22pm | Hi Brian, if you still have the need, please put me down for a non-running volunteer role. Thanks, Richard |

Brian Furey | Oct 31 2024, 8:25am | No worries Mark. Catch you soon. I think we have enough volunteers now. Anyone looking to volunteer can look to later races such as the Remembrance race. |
Alan Brennan | Nov 5 2024, 4:07am | Hi when does registration open for this ? |
Brian Furey | Nov 5 2024, 9:07am | Entries open on November 15th. On a separate note I have enough volunteers as off now |
Alan Brennan | Nov 5 2024, 9:48am | Perfect Thanks for the reply |
Andrew Moore | Nov 11 2024, 11:26am | Can I ask, will the short course be available for adults? I am unsure from info above if it is only for juniors on the day. |
Brian Furey | Nov 11 2024, 1:00pm | Hi yes short course is for everybody - all adults that is. If you feel long course is too much you can do the short one. |
Elizabeth Wheeler | Nov 12 2024, 12:26pm | Just to clarify the Junior Distances for anyone if you are unsure. Under 10 [6-9] – accompanied on the course by parent/guardian – distances up to 5k • Under 14 – [10-13] – distances up to 5k • Under 16 – [14-15] – distances up to 7k • Under 18 – [16-17] – distances up to 10k So Powercourt Ridge short course is 7.6km, so only suitable for juniors aged 16+, so please do not register for this race if you are under 16. Thank you |
Warren Swords | Nov 12 2024, 2:33pm | Re clarification of junior distances. That makes me feel better about almost killing myself on the downhill last year to deny a junior taking the win on the short course. #characterbuilding |
Andrew Hanney | Nov 12 2024, 9:39pm | Warren will you be at the start of this race to say its downhill from here? :) |
Brian Furey | Nov 14 2024, 8:36pm | Thanks for the clarification on juniors @Liz Wheeler 16 to 18s can run short course. Adults get choice of long or short course. @Warren you'll have to defend your title! There's a tree down on the course. Going to check that this weekend. Thanks Brian |
Brian Furey | Nov 15 2024, 8:41pm | Entries are now open |
Brian Furey | Nov 18 2024, 1:35pm | Hi All, with over 200 now entered can people ensure to car pool...I see a good few car pool options on the site . Please use them. Also ensure to car pool with ppl local to you or friends. Last year there was major parking issues as this car park is busy even without the race as used by hikers so we want to ensure a good experience for everyone |
Brian Furey | Nov 19 2024, 10:11pm | Hi All, A few points to note: REGISTRATION: Registration will close this year at 10.30 for the long course. Please plan to arrive in good time to get registered. If its your first race, you will get your race number (and chip attached) at registration. Registration for early start will close at 10.15 so please get there early. Early start get priority for reg. PARKING there is no parking on the road outside Crone Wood or abandoning cars last minute like last year :) We will have more marshalls out there this year to keep an eye. Also registration will be closing at 10.30 so please plan to get here on time. For early start- you need to be registered by 10.15. There will be parking in Crone Wood but please come in full cars or see car pool options below for more info. COURSE TIMES: a few notes for the race on Saturday. Early Start starts at 10.30 am. Long course (main field) starts at 11.00 am Short course will start at 11.05 or within a minute or two after long course at 11 am. KIT: The following is the required Kit: Level B - Standard Waterproof jacket Hat or buff Gloves Whistle Charged mobile phone with emergency number stored Foil blanket, bivy bag or equivalent CARPOOL OPTIONS: There following are designated places where you can drop in to and car pool from: 1. Djouce Woods (Long Hill) Car park (Park and Ride Option): - just type "Djouce Woods Long Hill" in Google Maps. Can runners who are coming on their own or with car space - go to Djouce Woods car park pre-race and car pool with others from there. Jody Boyle and Martina are going to be there and can arrange for people in groups. They are also staying to keep an eyes on any cars parked here during the race so if we could get as many people who are racing to park here and club together so less cars up in Crone Wood. i.e 4 single occupancy car owners can all park in Djouce Woods and Jody/Martina will arrange for one of you to drive the other 3 over to Crone Wood. Cars will be looked after during race. If you are in a car that's full then you can head straight to Crone Wood. https://www.google.ie/maps/place/Djouce+Woods+(Long+Hill)/@53.1556213,-6.1903345,17z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x4867a6905ff08beb:0x7a7daff85c1d4cb5!2sDjouce+Woods+(Long+Hill)!8m2!3d53.1556213!4d-6.1877596!16s%2Fg%2F11b7q1yh5x!3m5!1s0x4867a6905ff08beb:0x7a7daff85c1d4cb5!8m2!3d53.1556213!4d-6.1877596!16s%2Fg%2F11b7q1yh5x?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTExNy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D 2. AGM Location/After race food: Palmerston Rugby club Kilternan: If there is some car spaces you can also car pool from here in AGM Location 3. Car pool and share lifts with your friends from home or wherever. COURSE MARKINGS: Its the same course as last year for LONG and SHORT. Course will be marked with tape up to Maulin similar to last year. From Maulin onwards it is not marked. However we have marshalls at major junctions on the course including an extra person on the side of Djouce. COMPETITTIORS: On the men's side - Killian Mooney is back on form recently in the XC and back to see can he win the 3 in a row. Its a course that suits him so I wouldn't bet against him. The ever improving not to mention Irish champions Matthew McConnell will be hoping to put a halt to that gallop. We also have a couple of other very good runners who are not local who could have a say. So its all the play for. |
Brian Furey | Nov 20 2024, 9:35am | A few people have raised the start time Start time on the event details page is down as 10.30. This is the start time of the Early Start course. For the main course, the start time is 11.00 am Thank you |
Brian Furey | Nov 21 2024, 9:37am | Hi All Online Registration/Entry will close at 10pm this evening for this race. No if buts after that. I see a good few car pool options from Dublin city in the car pool available. Please plan to use them. Anyone coming in cars on their own please come early and go via Djouce woods long hill car park. This is Liam Vines park and ride solution. I think it will work well if people avail of It. Joe Boyle will be there in Djouce woods to meet you. Thanks Brian |
Liam Vines | Nov 21 2024, 10:52am | Race entry is going to close sometime today when entry number reaches 290 or at 10pm. This is a committee decision as the uptake on entries is unprecedentedly high and We have huge concerns over parking. So please don’t arrive to Crone in your car on your own. Brian has given out plenty of options to leave your car and jump in with someone else or to fill your car on the way by.. Do not turn up at Crone after 10am and think you have time to park get registered, kit checked and go racing, because you won’t and I will be the one turning you away at 10:30 saying reg is closed. Set an alarm be early and arrive together… Crone is located on a very narrow country road so you can’t just abandon your car in a gateway and hope it won’t be in the way. We had some serious issues with parking last year and if the same were to happen this year it would put the future of this race in jeopardy.. Don’t be the one that “Ruined Powerscourt” See you all on Saturday.. |
Andrew Moore | Nov 21 2024, 2:28pm | For new runners Can they purchase a new IMRA foot tag in the morning? |
Ben Conroy | Nov 21 2024, 2:39pm | Hey just seeing this is sold out when I last looked it had no entry cap...gutted! Understand parking restrictions etc ..sooo any chance etc of opening it for another 10 or so? Promise I won't come in a single occupancy car..;0)... Bit tongue in cheek here btw and I know the likely response but would be great for those of us not keeping a close eye on the forum... Best Ben |
Brian Furey | Nov 21 2024, 2:53pm | @andrew no foot tag needed. Chip is on back of race number. They will get number and tag on back in the morning. Please come early and car pool @Ben apologies when it's gone ...it's gone. I do need one extra marshall if you can make it. Call me if interested Brian oh 87283 four 308 Race is sold out. No parking capacity for any more. |
Andrew Moore | Nov 21 2024, 3:28pm | @Brian - Thanks for fast response |
Brian Furey | Nov 21 2024, 7:43pm | We could do with one more non running volunteer to Marshall on the hill if anyone fancies it. |
Andrew Hanney | Nov 21 2024, 9:18pm | Brian, I’ll help you out. I’ve added my name and will have my camera so am grand to be on the hill. |
Brian Furey | Nov 21 2024, 10:21pm | Thanks Andy. I'm good now for helpers. |
Anne-Claire Monde | Nov 22 2024, 12:00am | Hi, could you please confirm whether the race is definitely going ahead on Saturday (weather warning with strong winds). Thanks |
Brian Furey | Nov 22 2024, 12:16am | As of now it's going ahead. We will monitor the weather forecast tomorrow. Also I will look to get guidance from imra committee. Ultimately they will take a call if it goes ahead or not. Take it that it's going ahead and updates will be given if anything changes on that front. |
Ben Conroy | Nov 22 2024, 12:23am | Hey Brian, Happy to volunteer and added myself to the list. No worries if you don't need me at this point but can be avail no prob if I can be of any help Ben |
Brian Furey | Nov 22 2024, 9:06am | Thanks Ben added you in just now. Definitely enough of volunteers now |
Alan Ayling | Nov 22 2024, 3:10pm | There have been some questions circulating as to whether the race tomorrow might be cancelled or the route altered due to adverse weather. The procedure for these situations is in the IMRA Safety Policy (bottom of the website, click the Safety link and then the link the PDF at end of point 11), if anyone really wants to read it. In short, if there's a red warning, NO RACE. Seems very unlikely Co Wicklow will go red at this stage. If Wicklow gets upgraded to orange, we may well have to cancel, but will look to see if there's a safe enough option to run a curtailed race, depending on the actual weather conditions and details of the warning. If it remains yellow, which looks likely, a decision will be made on the morning by the RD and available members of the committee. The preference will be for the race to proceed as planned, but we'll take all factors into consideration and make the decision as needed. We trust runners will understand the need to put safety first. Leaving the decision until the morning will at least let us make the best possible judgement and not simply cancel just in case. |
Alan Ayling | Nov 22 2024, 3:14pm | Meanwhile, please make sure you have your full mandatory kit with you. If we do get to race, even a shorter route, it wouldn't be wise to be out there without the right gear. |
Lesleyann Wylie | Nov 22 2024, 5:23pm | I can see Maulin from my house and as of this evening it still has lots of snow and ice. Was up there yesterday and there was at least a foot of snow towards the top. Lovely soft powder, some ice on the main walking routes. It might rain overnight and be gone tomorrow but for anyone travelling keep it in mind. Enjoy the race. |
Kevin O'Riordan | Nov 22 2024, 6:15pm | Forecast tomorrow is for mid teens temperatures and heavy wind/rain so will definitely be gone by the time we're up there sadly. |
Dillon Ryan | Nov 22 2024, 7:03pm | I hear Jack Frost is marshalling at the summit of Djouce! The mudclaws are getting the nod for tomorrow I think! |
Mark Heavey | Nov 23 2024, 9:10am | In kilmac will give another 20 mins if anyone wants a lift silver focus |
Alistair Hodgett | Nov 23 2024, 3:01pm | Massive thank you to all the volunteers today. Djouce had her heart set on beating me it seemed. I'm still laughing at trying to keep my feet dry in the first km. |
Andrew Hanney | Nov 23 2024, 3:39pm | Whoever gave me the hand warmers at the Djouce climb junction where I was marshalling.that I could put inside my gloves , ye legend. They are the business. Photos from my spot will be up tomorrow. Well done everyone. Typical Powerscourt ridge weather tbh. |
Kevin O'Riordan | Nov 23 2024, 5:18pm | I hope you emerged as a beautiful butterfly from your chrysalis up there Andrew :) |
Peter McEvoy | Nov 23 2024, 5:20pm | What a day’s craic that was, mountain running in its purest form up there. First time today and will definitely be back, thanks to all the volunteers and the food was class too! |
Lee Borland | Nov 23 2024, 6:25pm | Brilliant event. Thank you! I'm listed at DNF but finished in 1:47:15. Can this be adjusted? |
Stephen Brennan | Nov 23 2024, 8:17pm | What a great race. Mad conditions - I loved it. Thanks to all the volunteers |
Lesleyann Wylie | Nov 23 2024, 9:53pm | I was in Crone woods this afternoon and picked up a Donadea 50km orange hat. Presume it was left by a runner there this morning. Happy to get it back to its owner. If anyone left it behind. Post here. |
Gerry McGuinness | Nov 23 2024, 10:14pm | Big thanks to Brian and his crew for a great race, |
Matteo Mariani | Nov 23 2024, 10:22pm | My first IMRA race, and what a brutal pleasure it was. Looking forward to more. Thanks to my carpool and the people I met for your welcome. And the marshals and volunteers up there, you are the legends. Until next time! |
Sean Forsyth | Nov 24 2024, 10:05am | Well done Brian and crew for a well organised race. It's a tough route but a great race. As always on days like we had, the real heroes are the marshals out on course, fair play to each one of them for being able to make these races happen. |
Brian Furey | Nov 24 2024, 11:28am | Well done to all who ran yesterday. I'm really glad the race went ahead and feedback was very positive and everyone enjoyed it. Conditions were not too bad (windy at the top of Djouce) with mild to balmy temperatures :) overall. The milder than usual temperatures helped melt all of the ice. Thanks to all volunteers who gave their time so generously. Cannot single out just one as across the board ye all did a great job. Thanks to Liam, Lilian and Alan A in the background for helping and advising. Well done to Derek Hay on his 100th imra race and he had a nice family made poster ready for him at the end to mark it and a club 100 t-shirt! Finally well done to the winners and those at the top of the field. Some very fast runners from UK made for very fast times at the top of the field in both the mens and the women's field. Killian and Matthew had good company. Any one with results issues please email results@imra.ie and Conor/Jeff will take care of it. Thanks Brian |
Andrew Hanney | Nov 24 2024, 1:44pm | Be great to see some race reports describing the battle against the elements and the mountains, they are a great thing to look back on. |
Ben Conroy | Nov 24 2024, 2:28pm | Hey all, Just posted photos from start and finish line can't take credit for them all some as custody of the camera given to Karol and a young man who was volunteering also whose name escapes me apologies to that young man! I was otherwise engaged hustling folk to give me their numbers as they crossed the line.. Although disappointed not to get out and run what sounds like an epic battle with the elements always great craic to be had when volunteering and highly recommend it to those yet to dip their toes in the volunteering world.. Also while I'm here big well done to Brian on a well executed Race... Best Ben |
Killian Mooney | Nov 24 2024, 6:55pm | Thanks to everyone who organised and volunteered at the race yesterday. Appreciate the hard work putting on the race in difficult conditions. A really enjoyable event as always. Killian |
Niamh O'Boyle | Nov 24 2024, 9:46pm | Thanks to Brian and all the team involved for the work that went into organising this event. Much appreciated. |
Ian Rainey | Nov 29 2024, 10:31pm | Just wondering if the deets of the race be uploaded to ITRA website? |
