Tragic death on Benbulben

AuthorDateMessage
Turlough ConwayJul 4 2024, 2:07pmTerrible news from Sligo. Sligo-Leitrim Mountain Rescue volunteer and IMRA member Octavius Job died after a fall on Benbulben on Tuesday evening while hiking with a friend. He sustained a very serious head injury after slipping from a gully on the West side of the mountain while hiking with a friend. His mountain rescue colleagues arrived on the scene but could not revive him. Octavius had run the last two IMRA West league races including the Benbulben race a few days before.
Condolences to his family, friends and his mountain rescue colleagues. May he rest in peace.
Miriam MaherJul 4 2024, 2:19pmThank you very much Turlough for your post. I want to add to your message to express our heartfelt condolences on behalf of the IMRA committee and wider IMRA running community.

This is desperately sad news to read and our thoughts are with Octavius’s (Ocky) three children, especially as this tragic loss comes only three months after that of his wife and their mother.

May their souls rest in peace.

Laura FlynnJul 4 2024, 4:40pmThanks for sharing that with us Turlough. I hadn’t realised that he was one of our members and lost his life on a mountain he’d only raced a few days before.
Condolences to his friends and family and especially his three children.
May he rest in peace.
