Kerry Round Saturday 1st June

AuthorDateMessage
Brian MullinsMay 31 2024, 1:26pmI’m going to give the Kerry Round a solo unsupported effort starting at 2am tomorrow. The 3.5kg pack feels heavy already and I haven’t even put it on!

That’s to Robbie for arranging the tracker and to Rowan in Primaltracking for building the site at such short notice. Link to dot watching below.

Looking forward to a long day(ish) in the hills, I’ve no idea whether I can scrape under 24hrs or not as I ain’t as fit as I used to be!

Mícheál O'MullainJun 1 2024, 4:19pmAll,

Just FYI Brian stopped after 37miles and 6000m ascent and 14.15hrs due to running for 3 hours since 1300 with no water.

Beidh lá eile.
Kristen O'SullivanJun 1 2024, 4:47pmSorry to hear this. He seemed to be going really well. It’s a hot day out there to be running without water. There will be another day!
Finbarr DesmondJun 1 2024, 5:31pmGreat effort! Far too hot today.
Brian MullinsJun 2 2024, 8:51amWhat a (half)day out that was. Thanks to all those that sent on messages via phone and email and the dot watchers. Was moving well for first 9hrs and came off the Reeks 45mins up on a sub 24hr pace. After descending Broaghnabinnia and discovering the only stream between there and Knocklomena that wasn’t contaminated was dry I knew I was in trouble but kept going anyway in the hope of finding something drinkable. I found a few but was getting sick about 5mins after trying any of them due to a white foam that seems to just be in every stream on the Lough Duff circuit. I’ll be back but maybe with a lighter pack the next time as the starting weight topped out at 4kg which given the rate I was eating on the day seemed about right for 24hrs. Onwards.
Richard NunanJun 2 2024, 10:45amHard luck Brian, have a feeling you will be back
