2024 - Formation of Sub Committees

AuthorDateMessage
Miriam MaherDec 10 2023, 1:21pmHi everyone,

The new committee for 2024 met on Tuesday for the first time. At the meeting we discussed the best ways to go about following up on the feedback received from the Members Opinion Survey conducted back in September.

I'm attaching a link to the outcome report from that excellent piece of work done by David Power and Brian Kitson to remind you of the survey results.

https://media.imra.ie/ad-hoc/2023_IMRA_Survey_Report.pdf

There was a huge amount of really interesting feedback and constructive viewpoints and suggestions gathered. We have now decided, as a committee, to seek the formation of two sub groups to focus on two areas in particular at this time.

So to that end, we are looking to set up a sub group focusing on 'Effective communications within and about IMRA' and a sub group focusing on 'Sustainable access and inclusion to IMRA events'.

Here's some information about how these sub groups will work:

Each sub group will have a committee member involved and up to 3 or 4 other IMRA members. Meetings will be held online to enable participation from members across the country and not from one particular region only. It's envisaged that the sub groups will meet once a month.

The aim of the communications sub group will be to look at ways of ensuring that our communications within IMRA and about IMRA are effective and make the most of the available social media platforms.

The aim of the sustainability and inclusion sub group will be to explore all the ways we can ensure that IMRA races and events are accessible, inclusive and in line with our commitment to sustainability and our environmental responsibilities.

It was acknowledged at the AGM that any work carried out within IMRA is on a voluntary basis, so in looking at these areas, we do not want to end up adding to the already significant workload of the committee or the race RDs

So with that in mind, it's expected that the sub groups, once formed, will ensure that any proposals developed, include ways of delivery that can be achieved without creating an unintended impact on the existing workload of those involved in organising and delivering on our 120 + races over the racing calendar.

Proposals will be brought to the committee from these two groups by the committee member involved, for consideration. Committee approval is needed for all proposals submitted by the sub groups before they can be implemented.

The committee members involved in the sub groups will be myself, Miriam Maher, in the communications sub group and Louis Mullee, in the sustainable access and inclusion sub group.

Kate Flynn, who already looks after our social media content on our Instagram Page to great effect, will naturally sit on the communications sub group too, so we are looking for 2 or 3 other IMRA members who would be available and interested in working with us.

Louis is looking for 3 or 4 IMRA members to be part of the sustainable access and inclusion sub group. Given the reach of this group, we are looking for volunteers from different regions and areas of interest within the membership.

Expressions of interest for the relevant sub group should be sent to myself (president@imra.ie) or Louis (ordinarymember@imra.ie) by January 5th 2024. The committee next meets on January 9th 2024 and we will finalise the makeup of the sub groups then.

I'm sure you will all understand that the committee (like early starters) are real people too ;-) so we're looking forward to having a breather over the Christmas holidays!

Wishing all IMRA members a happy and relaxing time over the coming weeks. Looking forward already to what 2024 brings us all.

Brendan LawlorFeb 19 2024, 10:06amHi

Is there any update on these sub groups? And if they are up and running how does one go about making a submission?
Miriam MaherFeb 19 2024, 11:11amHi Brendan,

Great minds...expect to see an update this week on what's been happening so far:)

Thanks
