Miriam MaherNov 8 2023, 6:10pmFeedback from the Opinion Survey at the AGM

Our members have spoken! We are delighted to be able to share the results of the first members satisfaction survey, undertaken in October 2023. The objective of this survey was to gather member feedback on IMRA, more specifically: Events and races, Membership, Marketing and communications, Diversity and inclusion, Coaching, Some demographics, and overall satisfaction.

At the AGM on Saturday, David Power will give a short presentation on the full results of this survey. A full copy of the presentation and analysis will be posted onto the forum following the AGM. We encourage you to read through the summary and the full presentation/analysis. This data will guide decision making and prioritisation by the incoming IMRA committee.

In advance of David’s presentation, he has put together an advance summary of the data collected, and the feedback received. Link to the summary here:

https://media.imra.ie/ad-hoc/2023_IMRA_Survey_Summary.pdf

On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank David Power and Brian Kitson for the extensive time and effort they put into the design and delivery of the survey. Their analysis of the feedback received has resulted in a very professional and comprehensive document that will aid the incoming committee in their focus for next year.

Brendan LawlorNov 9 2023, 6:07pmSome very interesting statistics there John, thank you for that analysis

The big standout is the major growth in Munster hillrunning in the past 5-10 years. Major kudos to everyone in Munster IMRA who have made that possible.. hopefully the other regions continue to grow and develop in the years to come

I particularly liked the Average race fee per km metric.. some of the nav challenge or championship races can be serious value for money using that metric !
Warren SwordsNov 9 2023, 6:13pmReally interesting stats.

"Total No. of Metres Climbed per Region:
Leinster – 55,850m
Munster – 34,747m
North West – 3,190m
South East – 1,850m"

Perhaps us mountain goats in Leinster can lend our altimeters to our Munster colleagues to help them identify some mountains to run up.
Peter O'FarrellNov 9 2023, 8:16pmGreat stats

On the metres climbed per kilometre ran metric the North West are the clear winners with 50m/km and the sunny south east are the flattest on about 33m/km.

Unsurprisingly Leinster and it's summer league ensure the highest average amount of runners per race at just over 100.
Stuart ScottNov 9 2023, 9:19pmInteresting stats alright! What are the median stats? I'd imagine they're skewed quite a bit by the high profile races?
Brian MullinsNov 9 2023, 11:32pmAltimeters in Munster don’t bother registering metres ascended on Coillte fire road as that is considered cheating. They are all calibrated to measure actual unmarked open mountain only, so I’d say that’s why the stats are skewed!
Mícheál O'MullainNov 10 2023, 12:29amAs this is the Irish MOUNTAIN running Association it would be interesting to see the statistics that excluded: 1. Trails, 2, fire roads 3. Tarmac road sections. 4. Anywhere more than 20km from Ó Connell Bridge.

What is noteworthy from the statistics as furnished is the relative income of Munster/Leinster given the huge advantage Leinster has in having Dublin and its population.

Given the island’s population it’s understandable that we need to broaden the appeal but having a fire road race under the same umbrella as IC races devalues the “Mountain” aspect of the brand.
Alan AylingNov 10 2023, 4:38pmShould we also be excluding the snorkel-requiring sections? Slí Gaeltacht Muscraí and Ardgillan spring to mind.
Mícheál O'MullainNov 10 2023, 5:02pmHa!! Fair point Alan!
Andrew HanneyNov 11 2023, 8:06pmWell done committee on a great summary today of the year. Best of luck to the newly elected committee.

Anyone that goes the AGM should get a volunteer tick ;) motion for next year :)
Brendan LawlorNov 12 2023, 10:24amBig thank you to our outgoing committee for all your hard work on our behalf over the past year.

A special word of mention to the irrepressible and unflappable Conor O Farrell who stepped down yesterday after many years as our Results and records secretary. Race directors at busy Leinster races will know just how important Conor’s work has been in straightening out race results and queries.

Thank you for all your hard work Conor and best of luck to Jeff Swords who is taking over from Conor.
Richard NunanNov 12 2023, 11:48amWell said Brendan, results are a core part of our race organization. It can be a thankless job, the training, the matts, the constant tweaking and integrating of the chip timing.. and the thousands of result queries and requests. Happy to hear he will stay on as part of the Technical sub-committee. So we will still have him as a leg in..

Congrats again to all the committee who have done a stellar job last year and to the incoming 2024 committee. As was on display yesterday, lots for us to plan and get on with in 2024 ! Thanks again to all who attended.
Miriam MaherNov 12 2023, 12:23pmThank you very much to all that attended yesterday at the AGM.

It was great to have the opportunity to reflect on all that was achieved in the past year within IMRA and also to consider key areas of focus for the year ahead. As someone observed to me last night, the discussions at the AGM demonstrated the willingness to celebrate all that is good about IMRA while also being prepared to evolve the organisation in line with new ways of enhancing the experience of being part of IMRA.

Thank you again to David Power for presenting on the outcome from the Members Opinion Survey. Full details behind David's presentation are available at this link

https://media.imra.ie/ad-hoc/2023_IMRA_Survey_Report.pdf

The new committee voted in for the year ahead is:

President: Miriam Maher
Secretary: Linda Rowden
Junior Development Officer: Elizabeth Wheeler
Treasurer: Stuart Scott
Equipment Officer: Lillian Deegan
Results and Records: Jeff Swords
Races Coordinator: Liam Vines
Munster Regional Representative: Brian Flannelly
High Performance Officer: Robbie Williams
WMRA & AAI Rep: Richard Nunan
Safety Officer: Alan Ayling
Webmaster: Eoin Keith
Ordinary Member: Louis Mullee
Honorary Auditor: Maike Jurgen

Echoing Richard and Brendan's comments about Conor's enormous contribution over the past number of years. We're very glad he's not going too far and welcome Jeff Swords onto the committee in his place!

Also thanks for Lillian for her immense contribution as races coordinator for several years. We're equally glad that she is going to be still on the committee, albeit in a different role now.

Lastly, it was so good to get the chance to present the awards across a range of categories last night at the end of year social. I just had to stand up and focus on delivering the right award to the right person...Lillian, as usual, did all the hard work in the background ordering, assembling and sorting out who got what.

Looking forward to what's ahead of us all in the coming year and ensuring that IMRA is as accessible and welcoming to all newcomers that the rest of us have experienced it to be over many years now.

Miriam

Laura FlynnNov 23 2023, 12:46pmA belated thanks to the outgoing committee for their work during the past year, especially to Conor who’s stepping down after many years of service. Best wishes to the incoming committee.
Ben ConroyNov 23 2023, 5:19pmHey all,
Thanks a million to all the outgoing and incoming committee members. Can see from the AGM there is so much work put in by you guys and a lot of it behind the scenes. Also I really like the idea of setting up of sub-committees for specific tasks great way for folk to offer their skills up to help out. Will keep an eye out for them. Well done too on the survey too inciteful and great presentation breaking it down.

Can the minutes be shared on here please apols if I missed them before.

Kind Regards
Ben
Miriam MaherNov 23 2023, 7:53pmHi Ben

Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated!

We're in the process of finalising the minutes from the AGM and expect to have them ready to make available on request, along with the reports presented at the AGM, shortly.

We will post when that's the case. The new committee meets for the first time in early December, we will start the process of follow up on the various matters discussed at the AGM after that meeting.

All the best

Miriam
