Mountain Meitheal Fundraiser

AuthorDateMessage
Joe LalorJul 20 2023, 10:30pmAgain this year "End of League Handicap Race" is a Mountain Meithal Fundraiser. For those of you new to IMRA this handicap race is for those who have completed the summer league (to have been deemed as a league finisher you will need to have done 7 races). Non league finishers may also take part but will not be given a handicap time. Race starts at 7pm with the slower runners building up to to the faster runners at 7.30. Non league finishers will start at 7.30. Handicap times will not be calculated until after final league race. This event, as usual, is being run as a fundraiser for Mountain Meitheal, the mountain path building team. Entry is online only at €10. If you cannot make the race you might consider buying an entry to support this cause which we all benefit from. Start and finish at Pier Gates carpark. Route about 10km takes in Whites Hill and upper Ballinastoe. Short course available.

I am looking for first aid volunteer and several volunteers to marshall out on the course
Brian FureyJul 23 2023, 12:52pmI'll do marshalling for you Joe
Joe LalorJul 27 2023, 10:17pmShop is now open to purchase entry for this event. As explained above this is a race to find a handicapped winner of the summer league just finished..Handicapped srart times will be published shortly. These will be from 7.00 for slower runners to 7.30 for elite runners.
Runners who have not done the required 7 races to be deemed to have finished the league are more than welcome to partake but will start at 7.30 with the scrath runners.
The race route has been shortened a bit from last year. At ten km it has a bit of fire road, track, single track and open mountain. There is nothing technical and a shorter 5km option available.
Thank to those you have already volunteered. I have enough volunteers for "desk" jobs at race srart/finish but still require marshalls for out on the course.
Aine FarrenJul 27 2023, 11:00pmThanks Joe. Is there a map of it?
Joe LalorJul 27 2023, 11:13pmHope to have map uploaded soon, when I figure out how to do it.
Aine FarrenJul 28 2023, 8:14amThanks Joe

Brendan LawlorJul 28 2023, 12:30pmThats a little further along the road

it is at the location of the Aroma Coffee Van

Roman PupatoJul 28 2023, 6:08pmThank you very much, Brendan.
Eoin PhelanAug 1 2023, 12:38pmProbably a silly question but I have not run 7 races, will I still have a finisher time recorded if I sign up?
Brendan LawlorAug 1 2023, 12:56pmHi Eoin, if you have not run 7 league races you will be starting at 7.30 (ie without any handicap)
Joe LalorAug 1 2023, 1:39pmHi Eoin, just to confirm Brendans. response. Anyone not having done 7 league races is more than welcome to participate in this event (and have their result recorded). They will start at 7.30 (or earlier at the discretion of the stater). The idea being to keep them away from the league finishers in the honours list. Start times will be published in the days before the race on this forum.
Start times are based on your finishing place in the league only. So you may find yourself behind someone who normally finishes ahead of you. This is due to how many races you did and how many runners there were in these races
Eoin PhelanAug 1 2023, 4:10pmsounds good to me. Thanks
Joe LalorAug 7 2023, 9:55amStart list for registered league finishers to be published here tonight
I have enough carpark based volunteers but need more "on course marshalls" you can read map to get into pisition
Joe LalorAug 7 2023, 5:34pmSee below for start times for Wednesday's hadicapped race. Names included are those who finished the league and registered by 5pm today.
If you feel your name should be included could you check the link below to see that you have finished 7 races before contacting me. Dont confuse trail league races with summer league races.
Entries open until 12 on Wed.
Non league finishers will be given start time by starter at registration. It would greatly help if you knew your percentage of winning times.
Could I repeat that start times are solely based on the position you finished in summer league and you may have a better position that a better rival who. choose different or fewer races

Dave McCabeAug 7 2023, 8:05pmHi Joe,
Thanks so much for organising.
I think my name should be up there somewhere. I completed more than 7 in the summer league, and registered for this race a week or so ago.
Cheers,
Dave McCabe.
Joe LalorAug 7 2023, 8:53pmYes, Dave you certainly should.
Your start time is 7.14.00
Dave McCabeAug 7 2023, 9:13pmThank you Joe! Looking forward to it
Joe LalorAug 7 2023, 11:13pmStill looking for 2 on course marshalls as I cannot contact two of the volunteers.

I need to clarify a few things.
We are sharing the carpark with a film crew so stick to furthest part from gate. We are limited to 60 cars so could you carpool where possible from Kilmac or Roundwood

Course is shorter and less complicated than last year but to do this I have to use the boardwalk up Whites Hill which I would rather not, so in unlikely situation that you encounter walkers that late in the evening please give way to them.

Prizes awarded to first three M/F, eligible to summer league finishers only at the finish line. Afters in Kavanaghs,Roundwood. IMRA has very generously added the catering allowance to the sponsoring pot so no food I'm afraid but there will be usual spots.

In order to get the correct order of finishing runner all times will be recorded from 7.00. This will give the correct order of finishers but NOT the time you took, so dont be posting that your time is wrong. I will be away post race for ~ two weeks and when I get back will post on forum the actual times for your reference only.

Anyone not able to attend this event might consider buying an entry anyway to support Mountain Meitheal path repair projects

Joe LalorAug 9 2023, 9:26amA few final points for this evening.

At the finish results are being recorded manually, so everyone must have a number in plain sight on their front.

Reminder to car pool where possible

Non league runners will be asked for their normal % of winning time by the starter.

This annual handicap race is on the go since the early days of IMRA back in the 80's and its purpose is to find the handicapped winner of the summer league. Could I ask the non league finishers to understand this and be patient.
Rob TobinAug 9 2023, 10:32amHi Joe,

I registered a while back and have completed 7+ LL races but don't see my name on the list. I appreciate the list won't be updated again today so I'll mention it at reg and hopefully I can be squeezed into the starting order.

Many thanks for organising. Last year's race was my first individual IMRA event and I'm really looking forward to tackling White's Hill again this evening.

Rob
Andrew HanneyAug 9 2023, 11:40amRob, you're starting at the back :)
Brenda MalleyAug 9 2023, 11:55amHi Joe, I’m not competing in the league race, and have only done 5 short courses this year. My average percentage is 240%, and this short course took me one hour 20 minutes last year. Any chance I can start early for the short course tonight, so I’m not out as it gets dark?
Rob TobinAug 9 2023, 12:38pmHopefully not Andy... will leave my elbows at home in that case!
Joe LalorAug 9 2023, 1:13pmHi Brenda, I will give you a nice early start, shirtly after 7

Sorry Rob I muss you. I am out on the course at the moment and dont have my start list with me . However I know you srart between Dave Docerty and Brian Kitson

Therewere serious delay on Roundwood road at Djouce Golf this morning could be gone by this evening
Dave DochertyAug 9 2023, 10:37pmGreat work Joe, Nora and crew. Impressive command of the start line Joe. And I must say an infuriatingly accurate handicap, I really struggled to make up any time on the course. It really makes you appreciate where 30 seconds makes a difference of a normal Wednesday evening. Excellent wrap up to the summer fun. See ye all soon.
Alan KennedyAug 9 2023, 10:48pmThanks to Joe and crew for a fantastic race, love the format and made for a completely different type of race. Great debate over the handicaps but great to see different names on the leader board. Maybe a suggestio for next year is people can challenge the handicap their given but the cost for each challenge is an additional €10 ?? A great way to finish off the summer league.
Dave RyanAug 9 2023, 11:22pmWell organised, no bottlenecks, well marked, and enjoyable course,
Well done Joe and the team.
Thanks.
Brendan LawlorAug 10 2023, 8:30amThanks to Joe, Nora and team for another great race last night
Joe LalorAug 10 2023, 10:11amFirst off a big thanks to my team who did a gre
at job in the spooky forest

There were 95 runners in the race. A special thanks for those who bought an entry to support the cause but who could not attend. Due to a miscommunication there were 127 entries not as I said in the pub 217, a great success eitherway

Congratulations to the winners
M: Niall Corrigan, Justin Rea, Mike Jordan
F: Maeve Flynn, Joyce Tracey, Gail Carter ((I have your voucher)
MJ:Colm O'Neill

actual running times, for your reference and bragging rights only much later as I am away for 2 weeks
Andrew HanneyAug 10 2023, 10:38amThanks Joe and volunteers, a great route and lots of craic at the start line. I think the throngs of hikers on the boardwalk were quite amused by our suffering :)
Joe LalorAug 11 2023, 11:19pmBelow results from handicapped race.
As explained elsewhere times quoted are elapsed times from start at 7.00
This gives correct finishing position in handicapped summer race but not actual running times
This is the officall result that will be sent to results sec and entered in the IMRA data base.
Later I will post actual running times here on the forum for you reference only
