Knockmealdown Half

AuthorDateMessage
Matthew BranchMar 28 2023, 11:51amKnockmealdowns Half is likely to change a bit this year. I would like to consider making this slightly longer this year to include a few extra (interesting) trails on the North side of the mountain. Assume 26(ish)km. TBC. There will be cutoffs (times also tbc).
Matthew BranchMar 28 2023, 11:55amAdditionally, I would like to consider a FULL MARATHON for next year (2024), crossing both the East and West ends of the Knockmealdowns. This is pending a RD volunteer stepping up....I cannot RD both events.
I can assist the volunteer as much as necessary, but final decision on route choice and also making their own arranging/help to mark up the Marathon course, will be their responsibility. I think it would be a fantastic new addition to the Race Calendar on this (much under-rated) mountain.

Aidan O'DonoghueJun 8 2023, 6:07pm"Mandatory kit list (may be reduced closer to the time)"

Hi are there any changes to the list?
Matthew BranchJun 9 2023, 1:30pmNo changes to the mandatory kit. It will remain: jacket, phone, emergency blanket and water and food as per your own needs. There is ONLY ONE water point on route at 11km, and it is hot and humid at the moment...
Matthew BranchJun 9 2023, 1:32pmRace instructions will go out tonight by email after registration is closed. Please make sure you read it for valuable route and race instructions. See you all tomorrow
Iwona KelleherJun 9 2023, 9:29pmMatthew, any instructions for helpers, or if I didn't receive any emails means no help needed? Thanks
Stephen O KeeffeJun 9 2023, 9:55pmHi Iwona, we are meeting at 9.30 at bay lough car park.
Stephen O KeeffeJun 9 2023, 9:56pmThere was an email sent out out on Wednesday I think, but I say the more volunteers the merrier.
Iwona KelleherJun 10 2023, 8:12amI put my name only Friday, I guess bit late...so will pass this time and be more organised next time
Mark BerneyJun 11 2023, 8:21amThank you to all involved for a great race, pure IMRA, absolutely loved it, while hating it at the same time. Quads gave up with 5k to go. More training needed me thinks. Thank you to everyone that took the time to ask if I was ok and especially to the chap that made me take some of his fluids and a bar. In hindsight I wouldn't have been able to finish without them, so you were a lifesaver.
Mick O'ConnellJun 11 2023, 1:44pmHi lots of very small ticks picked up yesterday .. please make sure you check yourselves for them today .. it's the season for them! Use a tick removal tool or flat headed tweezers to get the whole thing out..
Brian FlannellyJun 11 2023, 8:26pmResults are now up for this event - any questions/queries on them, please email:

Michael McSweeneyJun 11 2023, 8:36pmThanks to Matty & Co. for a great day yesterday. Great route and plenty of proper sandwiches at the finish.
Alan MaherJun 12 2023, 6:00pmThank you Matthew & the IMRA volunteers for an excellent Knockmealdown Challenge. The trails were brutal, tough & technical. The trails were well flagged & marked. Highly recommended.
Ian SynnottJun 12 2023, 8:24pm2:52 was the winners time, is that correct?

How brutal was this race????
Lisa QuirkeJun 13 2023, 10:26amThanks Matthew and volunteers for one of the most difficult and challenging IMRA races I've ever completed.....brutal is certainly a word I'd use....I have others!!! .... ..would have messaged sooner but only regained the will to live this morning!!!
Mags HassettJun 13 2023, 12:32pmThank you Matthew and the team of volunteers. So glad the marking was done so well as I could still be up there in the fog. It was so tough but very grateful to have had the best of company through it all.
Michael McSweeneySep 27 2023, 10:40pmA bit of background reading before next years race. :-)
