Carbon Offset-Tree planting initiative with Wicklow Wolf brewery

Angela FlynnNov 11 2022, 1:16pmHi all
As many of you are aware IMRA has a carbon offset contribution as part of race purchase. We have 500 euro in the account for Carbon offset initiative (and 2 cheques for 250 each). We are working with Wicklow Wolf brewery (who plant trees at their hops farm in Ballinstoe, Co Wicklow in conjunction with the Eco trail) to organise native tree planting on the slopes of Djouce this winter/spring. The trees are bare rooted and cost 1e each so that's a lot of trees to plant. We are also hoping to organise a run as part of the event beforehand, to encourage as many people as possible to participate. This is the first time for something like this to take place and if other members have any other ideas /initiatives for the money going forward, please do contact the committee with projects you would like to promote and manage. Event details to follow.

Dave DochertyNov 14 2022, 8:07amGreat stuff Ange. Thanks for all the hard work. It's reassuring to know that the Carbon offset is going straight to roots in the ground initiatives like this as apposed to some random greenwashing fund that alot of organizations use.
Paddy O'LearyNov 15 2022, 4:54pmThis is a great initiative. Well done all for driving it.

Hi all ReWild volunteers,

We're delighted to start our tree planting with the NPWS rangers on Saturday 10th December and this will be our last event of 2022 - a perfect way to finish.

We have sponsored the purchase of Scots Pine trees propagated from the ancient native stand discovered in the Burren, Clare and we're delighted to be working with the rangers to be returning this iconic tree to its original range around Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains!

If you are free to join us just reply to this email, no previous experience necessary. Bring a spade and gloves.

Saturday 10th December, 9.30am, Upper Lake Car Park, Glendalough with NPWS

I will forward more details directly to those that it suits on the Friday before.

Looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully meeting some more of you then!

Warm regards,

Danny Alvey
