Hello all runners and we hope you are looking forward to the upcoming weekend of mountain running. Hopefully we will be enjoying good dry warm weather for the 2022 edition.

Here are the main information points regarding your weekend.

Camping:
Camping is available and you should have booked through Robbie already for either the campsite with a tent or maybe you are staying in a van or camper. Campervan or van for stayover is €10 per vehicle, per night. Please look for Robbie on arrival and pay him the money in cash so he can mark you down on the list.
Tents are pitched at a cost of €10 per adult per night and under 16s at €5 per night. The same payment system please.
Please respect other campers and runners. Even if you are not racing the next morning remember others are and will be trying to get a good nights sleep. We would like all talking/socialising to be away from the campers and up in the main yard please, after 10;30pm. Thank You
Car Parking for Race only.
Car parking for day visitors is €2 payable at the barrier.

Races
Skyline Race:
Saturday morning starts at 9am
This race is starting in the main event field. Please register for this event from 7:45am in the field tent/imra van. Marshals will need to see your mandatory kit. The kit should include taped seamed rain jacket, foil blanket & whistle, hat, gloves, water carrier, food, fully charged AND TURNED ON LOUD mobile phone. Event will be tracked so we will need to call you if we see you heading off course. IMRA race number should be visible at all times. At reg your gps tracker will be attached. Marshals will be positioned along the route.
Course:
Leaving the yard and after crossing the first bridge, veer left for the Cronins Yard loop, where it is probably best to follow the trail marking steaks until you see the IMRA markers leading you off the track. They markers will lead you on a route (but here you can choose your own) toward the shoulder of Chruach Mor. Following the markers is advisable but not mandatory HERE. On reaching the lake (this is where the wing of the C47 SkyTrain is lying just under the water on the right side of the lake but you probably will not have time to go searching), leave the lake on your RIGHT hand side following the ascent to the LEFT of the lake and now you will work hard over steep rough terrain to summit Cruach Mor and reach the grotto.
From here you should now follow the ridgeline in the direction of Coominapeiste / Big Gun ridge. Take your time as everything that looks like a path is not one in reality. There will be some marshals along this ridge but take car on the narrow points and go to all 4s in places may be advisable.
Continue over the ridges and you will come to a marshal on the top of the zig zags. This will be the first cut off point of the race at 12:30.
From here you will continue to Carrauntohill itself where the 2nd cut off is there at 1.30pm.
Now you will cross Caher ridge and descend from Caher West to the point where Lough Eighter meets the Hydro Road path (marshal here). From here you can choose your own route to the top of Beenkearagh. There will be a marshal here. Take great care as you descend from the summit as is steep and narrow in places and will have a sense of exposure in places. Cross the arrete between the peaks and ascent Crrauntohill for the second time. You will meet the marshal here. From here descent to top of Devils Ladder and over Cnoc na Toinne by any means and then take a left down the zig zags. NOW THIS IS WHERE WE ARE ENFORCING THE STRICTIST OF ROUTES. There will be ABSOLUTELY no veering off the path at any time. Marshals will be on the path and we will place bamboo with hi viz tape on each switchback. YOU MUST RUN BETWEEN THE FLAGS. IF YOU DO NOT YOU WILL NOT ONLY BE DISQUALIFIED BUT WILL BE BANNED FROM RACING ANY REEKS WEEKEND RACE IN THE FUTURE ! YOU WILL ALSO JEOPARDISE THE ENTIRE EVENT. WE HAVE GIVEN 100% GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN.
On exit the zig zags at the bottom of ladder, run the regular PATH home. Finish in the events field where there will be plenty of refreshments available. After a shower and a rest there will be a BBQ available to all runners. You will also receive your race trucker hat which are very nice indeed.

Carrauntohill Classic:
Registration opens Sunday morning from 9am in the event field. The mandatory kit for this race is rain jacket, mobile phone, foil blanket, A briefing will take place at 10:50am in the field please attend. Please note this is a championship race and so is not marked except for one section – the path to the zig zags. Please stay on paths that are in front of you rather than on the sides.
Follow main path in direction of mountain. Just as you approach bottom of ladder, watch out to your right for markers to follow to take you up to the zig zag path proper.
STRICT WARNING FOR ZIGZAGS>>>>
. There will be a cut off at the top of the zig zags at 12:15pm. Respect the marshal please if you are outside the time. Follow the route over Cnoc Na Toinne (route choice available if known), and over topof Devils Ladder and up to the summit of Carrauntohill. Descent the way you came up and be extremely mindful of the ZIGZAG RULES. There will be ZERO TOLERANCE for leaving the path here. If you do not run through all flags and follow marshals advise you will be immediately DQd.

Barry WalshJul 14 2022, 10:38amHate having to do this and have taken an entry from someone else for the Classic but entire house hammered with COVID this week and can barely get up the stairs not to mind Carrauntohill.

Not sure if it can open up an entry for someone else as I know no transfers but wont be at the start line this weekend.
Tom McloughlinJul 15 2022, 9:13amHi Robbie, just wondering are waterproof pants, map & compass part of the mandatory kit list? - They are listed in the kit list on the event page but not in the race info email. Thanks, Tom
