Barry MurrayMay 20 2021, 12:01pmOne of the first races on the island this year last weekend was won by IMRA man John Kinsella.

Kevin O'RiordanMay 20 2021, 12:25pmGreat to see the positive things coming from the rapid vaccination program up North. Should hopefully be in a similar situation ourselves in a few weeks.
Barry MurrayMay 20 2021, 12:57pmGiven the age group of the majority of the runners, I doubt that had much to do with it.... just like it had nothing to do with us being able to race last year with up to 200 participants when no vaccine was even available.
Turlough ConwayMay 20 2021, 1:28pm@Barry The decision to start opening up in NI is related to the overall low prevalence of Covid-19 there (which has demonstrably been positively affected by the vaccine rollout.)

The decision to open up in the ROI last year also related to low overall prevalence at the time.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but as this relates to a dangerous virus it is important to keep information as accurate as possible.
Karl RichardsMay 20 2021, 1:30pmI see Athletics Ireland have issued an update in relation to outdoor competition

https://www.athleticsireland.ie/news/coronavirus-covid-19-update/

Hopefully we might see some IMRA races returning soon. I’m sure the committee is working hard to get events up and running. Thanks for their continued hard work.

Roll on the vaccines.

very important to keep information accurate

Its all laid out here on official government site.... current % positive cases, hospital bed cases and ICUs similar to this time last year

https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/pages/hospitals-icu--testing

Given peak was late Jan, this would indicate prevalence is low now here also.

Roll on the races.
Stuart ScottMay 20 2021, 2:59pmI really don't want to get involved in this thread but just to be clear, races didn't return until July last year when cases were at a fraction of what they are now, or were this time last year. Either way, it's not for us to lobby one way or another - I know the committee are keeping a watching brief on the government advice and are just as eager to get back racing again when safe and when allowed to do so. In the meantime, we should leave them in peace. I'll concentrate my efforts on reducing my doughnut intake!
Warren SwordsMay 20 2021, 3:07pmPlenty of notice Barry to get race ready, no excuses.

Myself and Peter Bell almost called Kerry mtn rescue after you went missing on Carrauntoohil last July.
Peter BellMay 20 2021, 8:33pmOh the classic, what a race. Cant wait for the next one.
Alan AylingMay 20 2021, 9:03pmAh, lads - would ye wise up with all this talk of the Classic. The Skyline's where it's at... :-)
