There was a very competitive turn-out for the OSi sponsored IMRA national club championships and trial race for the European Championships. In the women?s team, Newcastle (10 points) won a tight race from Clonliffe (19), Rathfarnham (27) and Crusaders (40). In the men?s race Rathfarnham (18) won from Sli Cualann (29), North Laois (44), Omagh (59), and Unwilling Wanderers (92).

In the individual race, Robin Bryson showed again just how good he is with a strong aggressive run from start to finish. He was followed by newcomers Colm Mullen and Ronan Guirey who have both made great progress this year. Stephen Duncan completed the team for the European championships finishing just ahead of Gary Crossan. Eoin McKenna ran a good race in 6th just ahead of Barry Minnock who was prominent at the front for much of the race.

Fiona Maxwell from Mourne Runners continued her good form and repeated her win in last year?s trial. Alwynne Shannon and Trish Sloan switched places from last year and they were followed by Aisling Coppinger who makes her first Europeans team. Anne Sandford in fifth held off good runs by Fionnuala Doherty, Laura Flynn and Zoe Melling.

In the junior race Michelle Sturm from Omagh and Michael Dowling from Sli Cualann both ran very well, and they will be joined in France by Jason Wilson, Conor Moore, and Ciaran Collins.

Thanks to all the persons who came out to watch the race and to volunteers Mary and Diarmuid O?Colmain, Caroline Reid, Jean Bader, Gerard Cunningham, Jimmy Synnott, John O?Connell and Sara, and to Marty McVeigh for managing a strong contingent from NIMRA.
