Cloghogue - Report by Doug CorrieThe first race 14k in the new 50K series - they'll add up to 50k in the end...! - the brainchild of Brian Bell, was held today and attracted an excellent field of 21 runners in total. Two runners elected to do the shorter version of the route.
he first man home, Killian Mullet, to finish with a considerable lead of over six minutes over second placed runner and new comer John Kinsella. John was chased hard by first vet Gerry Brady who was only a further two and half minutes down. Bruce Shenker was the first M50 with Mick Kellet flying the flag for the M60 class. Niamh Ni Cholmain's visit to the open mountain paid off as she was first lady home. There were no ladies in the vet category and Caitlin Bent represented the F50 category.
Deirdre Bell (obviously well coached by her dad) beat Brendan Doherty home on the short course.
Everyone got back to the finish safely, and all agreeed the race was a resounding success and are looking forward to the next one in the series - the Circuit of Glenbride on 10 August.
