The Doon Hill Race for 2007 was a great success, which saw one of its biggest and highly competitive fields over a very dry course, with a total number of 45 runners turning out. As soon as the race began a high pace was set by the Kerry duo of Eoin McKenna and John Lenahan, who were persued closely by Shane Mullaney, Tim O Connor, Martin Bradshaw and Tom Blackburn. The fight for top honours however was between two runners from an early stage as Eoin McKenna set a high pace for the first mile up the steepest part of the course, trying to open a lead on John but could not. John opened up over 10 meters of a lead heading in to the forest over Eoin with Tim o Connor another 30 meters back and Martin Bradshaw. John now pushing the pace opened a lead of 60 meters along the forest road from Eoin. However another twist in this race was to occur as Eoin Closed the lead on John on the Fast down hill section leading to the finish line. This was a no hose bared finish where the duos were neck and neck fighting for the lead with 200meters to go descending through Paddy Lonergan's farmyard. Both athletes now at full tilt not giving an inch, but it was John who found that extra bit of strength and won by 1 second ahead of Eoin in a new record of 40:57. As described by Matt Twomey one of the most hotly contested finishes he has seen in some time.

Loretto Duggan of St Mary?s put in a fine performance to win the Ladies category on 56.26 from Michelle Finn in 58.00 min. The junior mens saw a fantastic win for Denis Finn in 28.58 from Thomas Blackburn and Local runner new to hill Joe Shanahan in third. In the Junior Women?s race Gail Finn ran also ran a superb race to claim the junior women?s title.
The Irish Mountain Running Association wishes to thank Paddy and Kitty Lonergan for their hospitality once again. Our thanks go to Bilboa Athletic Club for their sponsorship of the event and to Paddy Lonergan for providing an abundance of prizes. Superb changing facilities were provided once again this year in the factory by the local entrepeneur.
